Quick, call the vice president. I can’t run videos smoothly in this laptop:

Well, I tried to watch this video file (out terminal) till I noticed the audio goes normally but the video started to run slow, yeah no sync. I was researching and there is no hardware acceleration (gpu) to this machine for videos. So, whatever the situation is: I wanna know if we’re capable or possible to watch these HD videos with no issues. I am minding on looking for a conversor who drop its resolution to the native of this computer (1024×600).

Btw, I was trying to use conman for wifi, but I had to ifconfig wlan up (in sudo) then turn off and turn it on and the conman started to show the wireless networks (ssid), so I’d like to know, if I could manage the wireless thing without the sudo thing.

I had presented this before, but here it goes again:

Just some corrected information regarding AntiX 19 B3 4.9.189 kernel:

I clean installed antiX 19 beta 3 [original boot ISO, with default kernel 4.9.189] on a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s [model-2015] and it booted to a blank screen – tried this many, many times making new ISO-USB boot drives. Same result.

Next, installed it on a Lenovo ThinkPad T420, where it runs as expected, only changed the kernel to 5.2.8, made snapshot and live USB, then installed back on Lenovo ThinkPad T450s and no longer blank – updated, everything seems to be running fine so far. The imported files are still executable (as with all the various laptops tried), but installed Thunar – it recognizes the files correctly.

I apologize for the confusing information (inxi -F output) previously posted with wrong kernel [4.19] in the system information output. There were so many attempts at this (different drivers, etc) that I erroneously posted the data from a system that was transferred from a fully installed B3 snapshot/USB installed on another laptop and then installed on the T450s. [This did not work very well – no way to connect to the internet.]

The 4.9.189 default kernel on the T450s booted to a blank screen and therefore could not provide the system info output…

The “Intel HD Graphics 5500” is where the problem is, I believe.

It would be likely impossible to make antiX configured for thousands of different devices, but hope this is somehow helpful information.

Again, sorry for the wrong system data on the previous post.

Installed MX19 B2.1 on the same T450s laptop. Installed the antiX 4.9.189 driver and booted to it. Tried to update it and the desktop started screen-tearing and froze within minutes – could only power off – nothing worked.

Rebooted and again, within minutes the desktop image turned to a black & white photo and froze – could only power off.

Rebooted and again, and quickly, opened “Tweak” in MX Tools and switched the driver to “Intel” – froze on the way out – could only power off.

Rebooted and all was running fine with the new driver.

Hi AbacusRex, is there a special reason why you would like to have the most modern kernel installed?
If your motives are the latest security updates and bugfixes,
you can also try to update the 4.9.160 kernel to the 4.9.189 kernel.

            Edit: Since today

A rather helpful person pointed out ZRAM and after trials and tribulations it was used as part of the installer.

Hi, I would be this helpful person. I had asked Julien for information while I was starting to rebuild Ubuntu with Openbox, and though the project could seem competing, we had a few exchanges by mail which have been fruitful for both projects. Also zram-config (or zramswap, whatever the name used for the script which loads the zram module and configures its behavior) is removed at post install. I have also chosen this way after I observed it could freeze the session when used with enough ram + a nvidia graphic card. BTW there are a few other little tweaks in Bento. You would want to have a look into the tree directory at the gitlab server.

I tried the apt update, apt full-upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade hoping it solves the driver installation issues, I was using rfkill, removing /dev/rfkill and many stuff u can check out over internet about unable to start the wlan0, it can’t get up.
Also I can’t add native screen resolution of this laptop, always say something about gamma stuff, experience tell me it is driver stuff, because video also run slowly, while in browser runs even slower and very bad quality. Xrandr failed to change it and it keeps the resolution I did pick when I did install the distro.

If anyone got any idea this far, something to try or do, besides resetting bios and these stuff that I already tried, show up them in this topic

I’d like to start a thread where we can share news about political prisoners who got released. Add your people about whom you want to tell others!

Alexander Kolchenko – in prison: May 2014 – Sept. 2019, a left-wing activist from Crimea, got free in a prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine. I wish him and other former prisoners a quick recovery from all the stress and I’m looking forward to hearing good news about them!

                  https://youtu.be/Gr3Lq8LgAVI?t=337
                  (At time 5:37)
Reporter: Will you come back to Crimea?
Kolchenko: When Putin gets toppled, definitely.

The man at the beginning of the video is Vladimir Balukh, a political activist who raised the Ukrainian flag on his farm in Crimea.

(Don’t buy mass media noise about “a step towards peace”, Russia got a witness (and possibly an accomplice) of the takedown of MH17 in exchange and that’s the only reason why the swap happened IMHO.)

In looking thru this is appears that the box was a PAE machine after all. Anyhow it runs 13.2 without problems other than the usual PIBKAC type.

I am not sure of such attributing to antiX older version as non-PAE that made it work. I had no problem and running non-stop antiX 17.2 on Thinkpad T23 (Pentium 3), which is non-PAE… Ran just fine. The only issue was that I had to use non-PAE version of PaleMoon instead of any modern browser.

                        Regards and Thankye Kindly,
                        Newfie

Meh, reading all of this confusing stuff. I handled things like so

Since then. Hard drive died. I broke hard drive connection wiring swapping drives. It is a persistent usb laptop now.

Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.

                              Thanks!

I always format and after the install then copy in my own files.

Same here – Gparted – Swap file partition and root partition – select partitions on install and copy files to Home/documents after install.

Xfce runs flawlessly [except cannot select wallpaper in the usual manner in Thunar – that is not normal for antiX]. Thunar displays and opens the text files up as “read and write only”.

On antiX 19 installations with only IceWM, and the files are executable.

Same setup for years. MX and antiX.

Please tell me how to use quotes with a specific individual such as “BobC wrote” in title?

This explains how to go about making a swap file, (I would use the dd method).

How can i create a Swap File on antiX Linux? Do i need to activate it, after i create the swap file? Do i need to give any permissions?
