      Hello,
the standard installation is very simple, like a normal installation on a computer but you just have to choose the entired USB flash drive as your destination /root.
      No swap.
Choose your language, keyboard, profile creation, password.
      Simple.

        Hi,
after a few happy year using MX 15/16 I decided to move to Antix because my very old machine is a noPAE one.
After installing the system I got the screen resolution is not correct, i.e. 1024×768 but the real resolution should be 1280×768.
I understand this is due to the fact I use the Vesa driver, but I was not able to use the sis driver, because if I use the command:
        sudo make-xorg-conf sisimedia -o /etc/X11/xorg.conf
X does not start and I stay only in usual no graphic login.
My config as shown by the inxi -Fxz command is as follows.
Of course the X driver is the actual Vesa.

Since the main antiX repo server is down (and with it our web page), here is a list of mirrors to use.
Basically we will be moving to a new server as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Best to do this via repo-manager app. If you want to make the change manually,
add antix/stretch stretch main nosystemd nonfree to the line eg

deb http://mxlinux.unc.edu.ar/mxlinux/antix/stretch stretch main nosystemd nonfree

If you are using testing or sid, than swap stretch above for the repos you are using.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think a swap-partition is needed for hibernation.

I was surfing the web, when suddenly pages would not load anymore. Wicd cannot spot any networks anymore, pressing the Refresh button does not do anything. I am on antiX 17.2

                Hi Again!

Would have answered sooner, but I’ve been busy with some acadmeic STUFF…

Anyway — I got antiX 17.4 working properly now! hooray!

First thing I tried was noClue’s suggestion about the GPARTED partition thing; just removing the partition that was already there.

Next, I installed grub on /dev/sda, also as noClue suggested. That was probably where I was going wrong from the get-go.

                Ayway, it is working now.

As for rokytnji’s suggestion about inxi input; here it is, for posterity (sort of):

                $ inxi -Fxzr

Finally; anks for remiding me about that, caprea. That was something I just plain forgot about.

Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions, all. I now have antiX as the lone OS on my ASUS X55U laptop, to get some more use out of it.

                So far, so good!

For to see what might cause the issues, it would be helpful to post inxi-output from antiX17.4 live-usb.
Did you try to boot the live-usb with the Save-Video-Mode option , should be the second line on the boot-screen ?

Thank you, but there’s something I don’t understand anymore. Why a live usb? What is the best way to have a portable Antix? If I do a regular install, I have to deal with partitions, isn’t it? What about swap?
I’m afraid I haven’t figured it out yet.

To paraphrase the Lewis Carroll: Follow the white rabbit (== your logic)!

24/7 support contract you usually make with a manufacturer and it’s their duty to find and fix the problem in a given time (according to your contact) and if they can’t/don’t, they must replace you the product.

The forum support like here, depends on the previous experiences of users with the same kind of problem on the very same or at least, on a very similar HW.

People reacted quick, asked you for HW report, they saw what HW is in question and they have no clue (at least not yet) what might be the cause and so, the ‘smooth follow-up’ is missing.

No need to ask every couple of hours: Ain’t you gonna invest your time to fix my keyboard instead in your partner (or whoever/whatever)? PATIENCE!

If somebody get’s some idea, it’ll be posted here.

In a meanwhile, you wait and hope and you spend the time with bing’in’, google’in’, yandex’in’ and such and try to figure it out yourself.

No ‘bad blood’ here, just no ideas (yet).

I didn’t bother to look for the details about your exact model, but I looked at your inxi report. If I’m not very wrong on that one, we are here dealing with some sort of a hybrid machine, ‘convertible’, that kind of stuff where you might consider yourself lucky if it even works under Windows 10.

“Suspend does not turn off your computer. It puts the computer and all peripherals on a low power consumption mode. If the battery runs out or the computer turns off for some reason, the current session and unsaved changes will be lost.”

With suspend, the problem is in “It puts the computer and all peripherals on a low power consumption mode.” Some devices are sometimes not ‘playing nice’ — don’t wake up. Sometimes it’s because of crappy components used, sometimes it’s because of crappy drivers … the fact is, some machines are just not able to manage the power states properly and I saw (too) many ‘strangeputers’ having some kind of issues with ‘just close the lid’ (== suspend) way of usage.

“Hibernate saves the state of your computer to the hard disk and completely powers off. When resuming, the saved state is restored to RAM.”

Hibernate needs the swap partition as large as the amount of your RAM. Since you have that swap, did you try hibernate?

Just info from a dude who changes wifi hardware on his installs. Every time you change the physical wifi hardware. The kernel picks up the hardware. Assigns the driver if it has it. Firmware also included if there. Then a new wlan interface assigned.

                              Not improper antix use.

On my panasonic CF -48. I disabled internal wireless g intel card and just used the wireless N pmcia card I had. Being a older antix install.
eth1 was original wireless. eth0 was landline. When card wireless N was used. Assignment went up a notch.
                              Hence : eth2

Helps to know these things when editing Conky.

Edit: Being Saturday morning. I am one of the shameless abnormal AntiX users who swap hard drives also from computer to computer. Never had a problem with ether.

2nd Edit: I once ran a net monitor widget on tint2 panel in Fluxbox . Don’t ask how I did it. I google searched and just did it.

AntiX 17.4.1 (full) LiveUSB does work, so I don’t care anymore about why 17.4 does not. Many thanks.
