OOTB Antix 19.3 ISO Snapshot utility fails with:
FATAL ERROR:Failed to open exclude file “/usr/local/share/excludes/iso-snapshot-exclude.list” because No such file or directory
If an empty file by this name is created, the process runs to completion (although I haven’t tested the snapshot yet).
Also, less importantly, About > Changelog gives:
gzip: /usr/share/doc/iso-snapshot/changelog.gz: No such file or directory
/usr/share/doc/iso-snapshot/changelog.gz: No such file or directoryTaken together, they don’t fill one with confidence about the snapshot process… 🙂

::You might need to update iso-template before running a snapshot

::Did you exclude anything from the snapshot before making it. Can let us know if the snapshot worked Please. Just asking that’s all.

::OK, thanks for replying. I’ll try that, but I downloaded the 19.3 iso on 19/10/2020, two days after the new iso-template was uploaded, so…

::No, I didn’t exclude anything, just ran it with default settings.
I’ll try the snapshot and get back to you…

::Check the md5sum in case it was a bad download.
Which 19.3 version are you using?Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::No, I checked both the md5 and sha256 before I created the live USB. It was the antiX-19.3_386-full.iso

::No, the snapshot didn’t work.
I used the Live USB Maker (gui) in Control Centre, which reported successful completion. But when I try to boot it, it hangs with a kernel panic error.

::Are you sure you have the latest iso-template deb?

::Yes, it seems to be suspiciously similar I agree. However, I did perform an “apt-get update” and “apt-get dist-upgrade” soon after creating the live USB on 20/10/2020 (although nothing new was found).
I think I’ll download the iso and start again from the beginning. It’s all a bit confusing as a noob 🙁

::I tried recreating the snapshot and making another live usb from it, but it is still halting with a kernel panic error. So I had a look in the Synaptic Package Manager at iso-template-antix. Despite updating, it reports:
iso-template-antix installed version 19.13 latest version 19.13
So how can I get hold of the updated version 19.14 which solves this problem? Any help greatly appreciated.

::how can I get hold of the updated version 19.14 which solves this problem?
open a terminal emulator and issue the command
apt policy iso-template-antix
The output will report both the currently installed package version as well as the version of any “installation candidate” packages available. If that output is not showing v19.14 available, try “yet another, yet again” sudo apt update
and perform another apt policy check. If still not shown as available, the package manager may have your system pointed at “repository mirror server” which for some reason does not yet have a copy of the newer package version.

> HowIf you don’t wanna wait for it to eventually show up (get populated to) the mirror server(s)
you can visit in your web browser
http://repo.antixlinux.com/buster/pool/main/i/iso-template-antix/
click the link for the .deb packagefile
SaveAs (for instance) /tmp/iso-template-antix_19.14_all.deb
then, to install, in terminal emulator issue the command:
sudo dpkg -i /tmp/iso-template-antix_19.14_all.debOctober 21, 2020 at 7:10 am #43405MemberGeoffC
::Oh, great – thanks for all that!
Yes, the 19.14 version is not showing as available for me in the repositories. I only have enabled:
http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-backports main contrib non-free
http://security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-freeThe other two that were enabled by default just hang, then eventually report failure, so I disabled them:
http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free
http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-freeI don’t know why…

I made a snapshot on snapshot-20201016_0855.iso, Before installing the iso-template-antix update and it installed fine on my X220.Commit Log for Tue Oct 20 16:29:20 2020
Upgraded the following packages:
iso-template-antix (19.13) to 19.14
linux-libc-dev (4.19.146-1) to 4.19.152-1October 21, 2020 at 9:52 am #43410MemberGeoffC
::Oh, OK, but are you saying that was on 19.2?
I found that neither of the repositories enabled on my system (mentioned earlier) contain the 19.14 update.
I tried enabling https://mirrors.evowise.com/mxlinux-packages/antix/buster/ and found this has 19.14, so I’ll go ahead and install it and give the whole snapshot thing another try. If it doesn’t work still, skidoo has shown me how to install it directly. -
