Thanks Brian,
very little info released on the vunerability,
Pretty clear is it affects all chrome based browsers so android,
apples ms vivaldi etc.

I did notice that the Linux distros where I have Google Chrome installed DO have updated versions of Chrome installed.

I got on my Chromebook yesterday; at first it claimed that Chrome was up-to-date but I could see that wasn’t the case. Keeping it on for a while the system did realize that the browser needed to get the security fix so it was done in under an hour.

Though there’s the Google/Alphabet concerns, Chromebook models also have a power wash feature that wipes content. If you use it you then have to update everything but it’s good for cleaning up and as long as you save and back up personal content it works well. Concerns about usage patterns is another matter altogether; each of us much decide for ourselves whether or not to use them.

For non sensitive tasks they are very handy systems; for personal privacy we have to make our own choices.

I know for a fact that our distribution has access to updated versions of Google Chrome. In my case, I logged onto a different system today that I haven’t used in several days, and as part of my initial package checking and updating, the procedure added new versions of at least Google Chrome (Stable and Unstable), plus Opera, which uses some of the same code base. Several other browsers that also use a Chrome or Chromium base should also have updates for these high priority security related changes.

Not sure what you mean by this. Chrome is not in the antiX repos, nor in the debian repos. Or perhaps you mean that Chrome is available to install on linux in general?

What I mean is that when you install Google Chrome or a Chrome based browser, you have either added the appropriate repo or you are using a browser that’s included in the standard repo list.

You and I both know that you have to add a repo in order to install Google Chrome. For those who didn’t know, that’s what you do. For those who want to use Chrome, each person is going to have to learn how (it’s not difficult) but it’s important enough to know that I think that we should let each person learn that much themselves, agree?
