Why not having antiX with a light Wayland WM instead only some X11 VMs ?
      And is it possible ?

      ex of light Wayland WMs;

      https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/wayland

Grefsen — Qt/Wayland compositor providing a minimal desktop environment. https://github.com/ec1oud/grefsen
      or
hikari — wlroots-based compositor inspired by cwm which is actively developed on FreeBSD but also supports Linux
      or
labwc — wlroots-based compositor inspired by Openbox. https://github.com/johanmalm/labwc
      or

      a new alternative at the X11 Icewm … So a new antiX11 version 😉

I was thinking of creating a respin just to see what is needed to get antiX on Wayland, and did a lot of research. Right now I don’t see it would be worth it (or easy), first because most Wayland compositors are tiling and not stacking, then the staking ones are NOT user friendly (hikari has no window decorations), are not maintained (and are not complete, like Grefsen), and others are still beta (like labwc, but It has the best prospects IMO, and the author is the jgmenu creator, so there is hope for it to be the real WM alternative in Wayland for the plebs like me). And, most important, none of them have (official) Debian packages, so building and maintaining them is very time consuming.

The only light DE possibilities for me are enlightenment and Mate, but that would be with testing/sid repos once the next version arrives there.

A different issue is that effort in this path will take away support for old computers, with graphic cards not supported in Wayland, so I don’t see antiX moving officially in this direction (probably not until herbstluft migrate to working on both Xorg and Wayland, which is a work in progress).

All this I speak in theory. Last time I touched wayland in antiX I couldn’t get it to work at all. I still don’t feel confident I will get anything out of it except for wasted time.

Yes, maybe my request is a bit too early … it will not so easy to have a wayland WM like Icewm (and with a Debian base) … but X11 is becoming too old now (and insecure) so the future will be the wayland way I guess (?). I will try to investigate too.

In my opinion wayland, in spite of its early adopters, is really not ready for ‘prime time’. I have tried sway & labwc numerous times; they remain a disappointment. i3wm is much more reliable. IMHO These are still early days for wayland and wms like labwc, sway.

I supposed something with sway (Wayland’s alternative for i3wm) would be nice since I’ve wanted to try a tiling window manager before.

As much as I want to use a Wayland DE, I agree. I’ll probably wait until something comes out. However, I’ve heard that KDE is slowly adopting Wayland at least, but I would wait for that as well.

Having tried wayland on a request with ugh. gnome and kde I am for sticking to the present sytem.
                    My experiences were not fun.

Yes Moddit, the key way is also to have fun with.
                      Thanks all for your feedbacks.
The wait&see seams to be the good posture to have.
