Yeah. My bad for uploading my 64bit ifconfig file. I did not check that you were on 32 bit. Sorry. You can delete that ifconfig file I gave you in /usr/local/bin.

I’ll be using the desktop computer again after some weeks, so for the present I’m testing the wifi issue on a live usb with persistence, on my laptop. I installed all the packages I had installed to the desktop installed system. Afterwards:

I have also installed firmware-linux-free, but it didn’t solve the problem.

As you can see, using the net iso is hard work!
Just wondering, I think you said that you tried base or core on the same laptop/desktop and wifi worked ootb.
Is that true?
This is the list of firmware included with core, but not with netatmel-firmware firmware-atheros firmware-b43-installer firmware-b43legacy-installer firmware-bnx2 firmware-bnx2x firmware-brcm80211 firmware-ipw2x00 firmware-intelwimax firmware-iwlwifi firmware-libertas firmware-linux firmware-linux-free firmware-linux-nonfree firmware-misc-nonfree firmware-myricom firmware-netxen firmware-qlogic firmware-realtek firmware-zd1211

Yes, net it’s quite hard. And, indeed, wifi worked immediately after the OS installation for both base & core, on all the three old computers I use.
As regards net, I installed all the listed firmware, and now wifi works. Thanks. Of course, if I want to discover which of it is really necessary for this job, several tests are probably needed.
But first, I have a more important problem to solve. I have installed alsa-utils, set all the alsamixer bars at about 50%, but still there’s no sound.- This reply was modified 1 week, 1 day ago by andfree.

I think, by default, they are muted in alsamixer.
Open alsamixer, the MM label below a channel indicates that the channel is muted, and 00 indicates that it is open.
Scroll to the Master and PCM channels with the ← and → keys and unmute them by pressing the m key.

At the end of the post #9194, I wrote that I installed firmware-linux-free, and the wifi still didn’t work. And also firmware-atheros & firmware-iwlwifi had been already installed. So, I suppose that at least one of the rest is necessary.

Maybe, just a guess, maybe it didn’t work because you modproped both ath9k_htc and carl9170.
You could look after a reboot when your wifi is working with lsmod which modules are loaded.April 16, 2018 at 11:11 am #9223Member

I see that I have to manually run ceni, scan for wireless network and give password every time I reboot.

It’s true, after all. I purged all the listed firmware, including firmware-atheros & firmware-iwlwifi. I purged all, except only this one: firmware-linux-free. I rebooted. The wifi is still working.
