Hi,
I am not a pro Linux user, thus I need graphical installation. My system doesn’t support ACPI and though I know how to disable it permanently on the already installed system, I need help disabling it during the whole installation process. Some distributions have built-in tools to choose some options, including acpi=off, but I wasn’t able to find such in AntiX.March 4, 2023 at 6:38 pm #101126Forum Admin

::Have you tried booting the live medium, at the boot menu press F4 and choose acpi=off?

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::As I recall live medium worked fine, but is this option there when you actually start the installation? Maybe I am wrong or don’t remember correctly, but when you start the installation from the live environment it then just continues automatically, I am not sure when I can choose acpi=off again…

::So what is the problem when you run the installer after booting acpi=off?

::^As I recall it restarts before installation starts, thus the system boots with ACPI enabled. And it cannot normally continue further when ACPI is on.
If I am wrong just tell me 🙂 I will try again then, maybe I did something wrong trying it the first time.March 6, 2023 at 1:19 pm #101290Forum Admin

::Try it again.
acpi=off is supposed to turn off acpi at all times. It should not get re-enabled during that live session.
After install you will need to add acpi=off again, this time to /etc/default/grub (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”acpi=off quiet”). Is that what you mean?Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

Yeah, I know how to add the necessary line into GRUB after installation, no problem with that 😉 because my laptop is actually able to work with ACPI on for several minutes.
My only concern is the installation process itself.

::It seems I did something wrong the last time. Or maybe something has changed since then. But now everything just works. Moreover, acpi=off option that you can choose before booting the Live CD is even permanent! No need to fix GRUB after installation – the necessary line was already there!
