      From what I gather icewm panel has no applets. But is there a way to, let’s say, add a network manager or brightness icon or keyboard led indicators etc?
      Thank you!

        Hi, IceWM has more tray applets built in that you see. They can be found in ~/.icewm/preferences. If you go to Control Centre, click desktop tab, then click on the Edit IceWM Settings button, the preferences file will be one of the files that comes up to edit. I have them turned on in mine. Here is the section of that file that I think you are looking for to turn on ones that are built in like the Network, Memory and CPU info.

        TaskBarShowWorkspaces=1
        WorkspaceNames="1","2","3"
        PagerShowPreview = 1
        PagerShowWindowIcons = 0
        PagerShowMinimized = 1
        PagerShowBorders = 1
        PagerShowNumbers = 1
        TaskBarLaunchOnSingleClick = 1
        EnableAddressBar = 1
        ShowAddressBar = 0

        TaskBarShowClock=1
        TaskBarClockLeds=0
        ClockCommand="calcurse"
        TimeFormat="%H:%M"
        DateFormat="%c"

        TaskBarShowAPMStatus=1

        TaskBarShowMEMStatus=1

        TaskBarShowMailboxStatus=0
        MailCommand="claws-mail"

        TaskBarShowCPUStatus=1
        CPUStatusCommand="desktop-defaults-run -t htop"

        Ctrl+Alt=1
        NetStatusCommand="desktop-defaults-run -t netstat -c"
        NetworkStatusDevice="wlan0 eth0"

        As for adding things that are not IceWM options, you can run other programs in the startup. It’s in another tab on that Edit IceWM Settings editor session. For example, I have installed Xscreensaver and Launchy on mine. I also start Clipit, Control Centre, SpaceFM file manager as root, a terminal session, editor session and browser session when the machine comes up. I turned off the volume icon because I use the keys or amixer instead.

        !/bin/bash
        # Turn on screensaver
        xscreensaver -no-splash &

        # Puts a volume icon on the taskbar
        #volumeicon &

        # Enable/Disable automounting
        #automount-antix &

        # clipit
        clipit &

        # launchy menu
        launchy &

        # control centre
        antixcc.sh &

        # spacefm root window
        gksu spacefm &

        # Terminal
        desktop-defaults-run -t &

        # Text Editor
        desktop-defaults-run -te &

        # Web browser
        desktop-defaults-run -b &

        You can probably find programs in the repos to add your Brightness and Keyboard LED’s to the tray, but I don’t have those. I see there is a button to change the Backlight Brightness in the Control Centre, but you might have to install something extra if you want something in the tray. You might look at installing xfce4-power-manager which probably has brightness settings. There is a package called gkrellm-leds but I haven’t tried it, so don’t know if it will work for you. Do you know how to use Synaptic to install packages?
