(moved topic, originally titled: additional candidates for antiX-cli “suggested” list)

Posted as an excuse to bump the visibility of this topic, today I’ll mention debian package moreutils sudu apt install moreutils

This is a growing collection of the Unix tools that nobody thought to write long ago, when Unix was young.

So far, it includes the following utilities:

        – chronic: runs a command quietly unless it fails
        – combine: combine the lines in two files using boolean operations
        – errno: look up errno names and descriptions
        – ifdata: get network interface info without parsing ifconfig output
        – ifne: run a program if the standard input is not empty
        – isutf8: check if a file or standard input is utf-8
        – lckdo: execute a program with a lock held
        – mispipe: pipe two commands, returning the exit status of the first
        – parallel: run multiple jobs at once
        – pee: tee standard input to pipes
        – sponge: soak up standard input and write to a file
        – ts: timestamp standard input
        – vidir: edit a directory in your text editor
        – vipe: insert a text editor into a pipe
        – zrun: automatically uncompress arguments to command

Played with this off and on

          https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-news-59/cli-companion-a-tool-to-learn-linux-commands-4175594453/

Just a private learning process lesson for me. I grab certain tools when I find them.

          https://launchpad.net/clicompanion

          [/url]

Having CRS < can't remember stuff > at my age. I forgot the ps_mem.py command syntax. So I added it to my cli-companion list of commands as you an see.
Ignore the warnings when it says command not installed. It does not realize we have a /usr/local/bin with custom commands in there.

Not a command line utility. But I have noticed over the years when in command line only desktop or a terminal.

The arrow keys are great for storing previous commands during the session you are in.

Hit the arrow keys while in terminal at a blank prompt and prepare to be surprised.

I see I got an update to ncdu today. I haven’t tried the updated version yet.

Did you know you can use it to delete offending files easily?

And also export the list? I haven’t figured out how to process/use that, though.

Let’s add hstr to this list 🙂

@BobC Thanks for hstr like the way it works.

exa adds a nice touch to your terminal readout. Add to your bashrc if you wish or your own style. alias ls=’exa –icons -alB –group-directories-first’
Also with exa for icons to show. kitty , Alacrity working. rxvt not working.

alias rl=”exec bash” # Reload Shell

I find the below code handy if you want to quickly extract archives from terminal. (Stolen from DT)
                            $ex antiX.zip .etc

                            Add to bashrc

                            ### ARCHIVE EXTRACTION
