Your comment on IceWM not being actively maintained is certainly untrue, as the previous release was about a month ago, which anti put into the repo at my request. Or maybe you weren’t referring to IceWM, I suppose.

If it is claimed as maintained it is all relative. To me a minor update reported as new version does not mean much if after so many years IceWM continues to be buggy in the same way and not even able to survive some of its own themes which are able to kill IceWM so solid that only logging in via another desktop manager and removing these offending themes can bring IceWM back to life…
Perhaps it is usable if we put up with bugs and inconsistent behavior, though. Just shaky, not solid…

Please tell us the names of the themes that kill IceWM.

Went through so many themes yesterday (must have been around 50 it seems).I did not keep record in a rush trying to find good theme. I will today go through some of them again trying to find which ones. I remember there were two or three themes that killed IceWM. Had to log in via Fluxbox and through root file manager remove those themes. This brought IceWM back to life. This could have been probably done through command prompt too…

          Edit:
These themes caused Error to pop up with two options: Retry and Restart. These two buttons were oval shaped. Selecting Retry just resulted in re-displaying the same two buttons. Selecting Restart resulted in logging off. Re-logging with IceWM resulted in these two buttons displayed again. Only F1 on login screen to another desktop was able to recover.
Perhaps searching IceWM code for these buttons would shed some light on what condition caused this behavior.

Only post ones that come with default IceWM on antiX-19.X. Thanks.

I’m beginning to feel that something is not right with your install/upgrades since nobody else (recently) has reportd any of the issues you are experiencing either with IceWM or fluxbox.

Respectfully I would like to know what is causing these failures.

I have used IceWM with antiX and several other distributions for many years and I have never experienced a single crash from any of them and definitely not on antiX.

More often than not I have seen system problems from substandard hardware that is beginning to fail and about to quit. Also in fairness there, any such failures have come from hardware that is well past any typical warranty, often from street corner reclamation projects.

IceWM and Fluxbox are both solid window manager components that have provided decades of reliable service and have been updated to include any technical improvement or security fixes.

As much as I remember I do not think these offending themes we from the default set antiX is coming with. They were from the collection of IceWM themes on the page SamK provided earlier in this thread.
Behavior is as I added to my previous post:

                Edit:
These themes caused Error to pop up with two options: Retry and Restart. These two buttons were oval shaped. Selecting Retry just resulted in re-displaying the same two buttons. In reference to this:

This is fine. It not install/upgrades problem but I do not mean to dwell on these issues anymore. As I stated before some of these issues happen to be on certain hardware. The same antiX instance malfunctions on one but works fine on another hardware. Fluxbox/Chrome dropdown menu handling experience is negative on Thinkpad T410 nVidia version, but works fine on X220 and X61.
With variety of hardware to test I am running into these cases.
But as I said, I do not expect any fixes. Particularly that bringing up these test experiences typically results in denials. Even if the Fluxbox issue was confirmed by skidoo I am still ‘the only one who reported’…
I understand I am on my own and to stress again: I only reported test experience. I DO NOT ask anyone to fix anything. Closed case.
                Thanks and Regards.

I’m working with the developers at IceWM to help me come up with a way that I can press a hotkey and the system will remember the position of the active window and record it for me in the winoptions file so that the next time I open that window it will open in the same place with the same sized window.

Yes, I know you probably will stay with fluxbox now that your problem is fixed, but as long as I’m working on it, is there any other attribute I would normally be trying to remember for that window at the same time?

                    Hi BobC…
First of all many thanks for enhancements you are designing for IceWM. Capability to remember window positioning that exists in Fluxbox was actually raised by Xecure. I agree it would be great if such capability is developed for IceWM. I take the liberty to defer to Xecure and other Fluxbox developers/users who are far more knowledgeable in Fluxbox and IceWM than me, for any additional features that can be enhanced in IceWM, such as other attributes to remember for windows.
In reference to your conjecture that I am staying with Fluxbox now that my problem is ‘fixed’:
At this point I am using both IceWM and Fluxbox. Having just put together my own theme for IceWM, so as to satisfy my requirements, I recognize something can learned from such exercise in terms of IceWM architecture. In addition to enhancements you are planning for IceWM it would be great if some bugs are also addressed eventually…
                    Thanks again and Regards.
