Robin, It looks like both of my installations still have some residual files from pulseaudio (which has been removed). But alsa audio is working without a hitch. So, hopefully “well enough” can be left alone.
Wildstar84, Looking back at my response to your message, it looks like it took me awhile to figure out how to use alsa-utils. But you did well to point me in that direction.
