      Documentation online on the alsa equalizer is scant. Same for the pre-amp setting in alsamixer. So here are some questions:

      is the package alsamixer-equalizer-antix a fork of https://github.com/raedwulf/alsaequal ?

      Does setting all the columns to the same value, eg. 40, amount to the same thing as a pre-amp? So in my case, lowering all the columns from 66 to 40 removed some distortions I was hearing. Lowering them to 0 seems to reduce “volume” of output, ie loudness. Having the equlizer at zero I am able to up the pre-amp to relatively high levels before getting distortions. With the equalizer on at, say 40, or 66, I get distortions at relatively low levels.

      If I dont want to use the equalizer, can I simply remove the package? Or just leave all the settings at 0?

      Sorry for my ignorance and confusion. I’m trying to move back to ALSA from pulseaudio. The reason I moved to pulseaudio in the first place was because it magically removed the issues I was having with Alsa. Reading the forum and playing around with the settings Alsa seems to work alright again. I’ve compiled some of the programs that by default only use pulse to use the alsa backend instead (quite the achievment for a novice such as myself 😉

      If anyone could throw some light on this issue that would be appreciated. Thanks!

        Great accomplishment… I am just curious what programs needed to be recompliled to use Alsa instead of Pulseaudio and whether you were able to route Bluetooth stream through Alsa directly, not through Pulseaudio –> Alsa…
        Thanks and Regards…

            @olsztyn

            To be honest I only had to recompile ncspot (ncurses client for spotify), using cargo build --release --no-default-features --features share_clipboard,alsa_backend,mpris,cursive/pancurses-backend --locked

            The other program cmus could be solved by changing a few settings.

            So if my observations are correct, programs that use alsa will work fine when pulseaudio is running, while the reverse is not true. So trying to get programs to use alsa directly is win win.

            Yes, thank you, that was an informative post!

            I think now I’ve got alsa working to my satisfaction. Goodbye pulseaudio. So on my antique netbook I’ve got one less daemon running, saving some 20 Mib RAM in the process. All well that ends well.
