      Hi,
I wanted to find out if there was an alternative to ndiswrapper to install wifi drivers for antiX 21.

AntiX 19 has this really neat program called ndisgtk (wireless network drivers) (Control Centre > Drivers > Windows Wireless Drivers)that helps users install wifi drivers on the antiX 19 system simply by loading the .inf file that is associated with the particular wifi card.

For example, I have been using the Netgear WG311v3 802.11g wifi card on one of my antiX 19 32-bit system. I used ndisgtk to load the wg311v3.inf file and ndisgtk did the rest. It is really easy to use.

But Debian bullseye has discontinued the use of ndiswrapper.

Is there an alternative to ndiswrapper to install wifi drivers in antiX 21?
If not, how do I install network driver for antiX 21 B2- 32-bit for this wifi card?

Any ideas for suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have included the specs for this wifi card:

      $ inxi -nxxxz
      Network:
        Device-1: Intel 82562V-2 10/100 Network vendor: Dell Inspiron 530
        driver: e1000e v: 3.2.6-k port: fe00 bus ID: 00:19.0 chip ID: 8086:10c0
IF: eth0 state: down mac: <filter>
        Device-2: Marvell 88w8335 [Libertas] 802.11b/g Wireless
        vendor: Netgear WG311v3 802.11g driver: ndiswrapper v: 1.61 port: eb00
bus ID: 02:01.0 chip ID: 11ab:1faa
IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter>

I can try to provide some leads. Ndiswrapper extracted exe files and installed them somewhere under /etc obviously, but what subdir was created I don’t remember; Here some leads:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ndiswrapper/files/stable/ (as of 2020 so not that old!)

https://wiki.debian.org/NdisWrapper see particularly the “See also” paragraph :

ndisgtk – a graphical frontend for ndiswrapper
cabextract – a program to extract Microsoft Cabinet files
orange – extracts CAB files from self-extracting installers
unshield – extracts CAB files from InstallShield installers

and ndiswrapper wiki page : http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

        I hope it helps!

PS: it seems the driver to be extracted is located here :
        https://www.netgear.fr/support/product/WG311v3.aspx#download

I would try to extract it with cabextract and install it manually somewhere under a subdir in /etc (or perhaps search further on the ndiswrapper forums and such linked in their wiki)

Thank you @melodie for these leads. I will look into these and report back.

AntiX 19 has this really neat program called ndisgtk

Due the absence of ndiswrapper package, this “ndiskgtk” item is now absent from the antiX21(beta2) ControlCentre?

Let’s hope anticapitalista will (can) use the debian source package to create a package for buster, and place it in the antiX21 package repository.
            or
Someone can test whether installation of the package from debian oldstable, onto an antiX21 system, will in fact still work properly under antiX21.
