I have installed AntiX-17 core on my EEEPC-901 with a live usb stick created on my HP Laptop within Antix-17 full. I did verify the md5sum of the downloaded iso prior to running Live-usb Maker. I did not install X. I am able to run applications from the command line. I configured the wireless network, updated the repos from aptiX-cli and installed links2 browser. I attempted to check out antiX-cli-cc but the application would not load. When executing the command antiX-cli-cc the screen goes blank and never recovers. I have to invoke ctl-alt-del to resolve the hang up. Any ideas why this might be happening?
Edit: It seems that I was confused by the video that I watched regarding the use of the cli control center. The cli antiX control center apparently only works in an X window environment as a console utility.

::antiX-cli-cc is expected to work without X environment.
I just now tested (a fresh antix17 386 core) and antiX-cli-cc did work.
Did your failure occur in the x86-64 version? I haven’t yet retested that.January 24, 2018 at 10:21 am #5827Member

::Hi skidoo. Thank you for responding. I have an EEEPC 901 with a 1.6Ghz single core atom processor. I installed the 32 bit version of Antix-17 core. I had observed unexpected behavior during the install process so I rechecked the md5sum of the downloaded .iso image. It checked out.
I had originally used the dd command to create the install-able usb drive. After rechecking the md5sum I recreated the install-able flash drive using the Live-usb Maker on my primary laptop and did a complete format and reinstall.
The unexpected behavior appeared during this install process as well. The following issues occurred.
At the onset of the installation process the installer reported a failure to copy certain files from /live/aufs/usr/bin.
The installer failed to create the user directory when the directory was assigned to a different partition than the root directory. I.E. / on sdb1 and /home on sda1.
The installer did create the user directory when it was assigned to the same partition as root.
Antix core does not start wireless automatically on boot. It must be reconfigured each boot.
When calling the control center the screen blanks as if the application were going to load. It never does and I wind up killing it with ctl-alt-del.
I would like to work out the issues as this little netbook can still be quite useful using a cli.
Even though the md5sum checked out I think that I will download the iso from a different mirror and see if the issues are repeated with the fresh install just to be sure it is not the image itself.

::I downloaded an *.iso image of 32 bit core Antix-17 from a different mirror and created a fresh usb installer using Live-usb Maker.
All of the issues listed above occurred with this installation as well.
At the onset of the installation process the installer reported a failure to copy certain files from /live/aufs/usr/bin. These errors are reported as not copied due to read error.
The installer failed to create the user directory when the directory was assigned to a different partition than the root directory. I.E. / on sdb1 and /home on sda1.
The installer did create the user directory when it was assigned to the same partition as root.

::Do you have enough space on the hard drive?
What is the format of the hard drive?
Are you sure the hard drive is not defective? Can you run antiX-cc-cli when running live?
Does wireless work when running live? Not being able to install /home to a separate partition is a bug that is fixed by upgrading via apt-get before installation

::Wireless works when running live. It works from hard drive install as well. It has to be reconfigured on each boot. So it seems it is not saving the config file.
I have a 4GB sda drive and an 8GB sdb drive that are both fully functional and were formatted to ext4 for installation.
The drives are fine.
I installed Antix-17 full to same unit last night after failing to resolve core install issues. Everything works out of the box as expected.
antiX-cli-cc works in live mode from usb.

::The read error message is what concerns me as it probably is causing the other issues.
I cannot reproduce it though on my install (VBox)Try reformatting and overwritng the drives by using gparted on antiX-17-full (live) before installing core.
Don’t use the separate /home for now.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

The read error message changed after I ran update with apt-get before installation. All of the read errors on previous attempts read:
cp: error reading ‘/live/aufs/usr/sbin/filename*’
I did format and install Antix-17 full. I then re-created the usb installer for the core iso and rebooted.
As suggested I ran update with apt-get prior to install.
During the install process I received the following errors:
cp: error reading ‘/live/aufs/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libunistring.so.0.1.2’
cp: error reading ‘/live/aufs/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libustr-1.0.so.1Observed the following error when prompted to create user.
/usr/sbin/useradd: error while loading shared libraries; /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libustr-1.0.so.1 file to short
adduser: ‘/usr/sbin/useradd -d /home/james -g james -s /bin/bash -u 1001 james returned error code 127. Exiting.
On this attempt install failed to create user.
I can only log in as root. Interesting to note that antiX-cli-cc works as root.
I am going to try it one more time as I had not read your message regarding the use of a seperate /home partition. I will reformat again as suggested and install everything to one partition. I suspect the error messages regarding adduser are not going to resolve but I can check it and see. I will report the results shortly.

::I ran a “clean” install to a single partition. Update was run with apt-get prior to install. As predicted adduser failed to create the /home/james directory with the following errors as reported in the above post.
cp: error reading ‘/live/aufs/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libunistring.so.0.1.2’
cp: error reading ‘/live/aufs/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libustr-1.0.so.1As it is the hard drive install is unusable on this device at this time.

::Well, I’m out of ideas why that is happening, especially since you said you can install the full version without issue.

::I did boot back into live usb with persistence. I was able to create non root user “demo”.
I was not able to install new packages via apt. I attempted to install gpm and links2.
Apt-get failed error code 1 exiting…
So I can create the default non root user in live usb mode. I can have persistence. I can use the antiX-cli-cc application (although the weather tool is broken).
However APT is broken and downloading/installing packages is not possible. Exits reading error code 1.
Somewhere in the process I did see an issue with libc-bin coughing up an error.
If I recall correctly that was associated with running update on live usb prior to installing to hard drive. APT presented dialogue that showed the process of downloading and installing each file. However it reported that APT failed. the aptiX tool presented me with a menu with the option to install upgrades (which I had already done). I selected that option and 0 bytes of 0 files were downloaded and installed, the database was updated and the aptiX tool seemed to be satisfied and moved on to the default menu that would have been presented if everything had worked properly.
Because I have achieved identical results with two different live usb installers made in Antix full on two different laptops created with iso images from two different mirrors, I would think that one of two possibilities exist. The obvious conclusion would be to look for a bug. However, I learned long ago that not all hardware is created equal. It would be nice to know if this is reproducible on any EEEPC-901.

::Silly but I gotta ask, Did you try re-downloading the ISO? I understand the sums matched, but . . . Its really all that’s left. You used the same ISO on both hardware?

::Hi sleekmason. I did do that. The initial install attempt(s) and follow ups was done with an iso downloaded from the Los Angeles mirror. I used an image downloaded from the St. Louis mirror for the second effort. I also used two different PC’s to make the usb installers. No luck though. :-(((.
I can fall back to Antix-16 and see if that works.
