Hi. I have seen at least one other discussion regarding some wifi problem in antiX-19.2.1, but I think it’s not the same case, so I open a new thread in order to avoid the confusion.
After a fresh installation of antiX-19.2.1 (base), I open ceni to enable wifi but, after clicking on “Scan”, the result is this message:

Scanning for wireless networks..Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
      rfkill: WLAN soft blocked
ctrl_iface exists and seems to be in use - cannot override it
Delete '/run/wpa_supplicant/wlan0' manually if it is not used anymore
Failed to initialize control interface '/run/wpa_supplicant'.
You may have another wpa_supplicant process already running or the file was
left by an unclean termination of wpa_supplicant in which case you will need
to manually remove this file before starting wpa_supplicant again.

If you want to use ceni, you MUST remove connman conman-ui and follow the steps here:

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Thanks for the reply, but now I’m afraid I have to tell all the story. It’s the second time I have installed antiX-19.2.1 (base) on this laptop. The first time, I tried with connman, but it didn’t work. The tray-icon for wlan0 remained black at all. Then I tried with ceni and the result was what I have written in my initial post. Afterwards, I followed the steps you suggest (you had already written about them on the other thread). After that, neither wireless nor cable connection worked. I decided to re-install the OS. Again, connman doesn’t seem to work (the tray-icon for wlan0 is black) and I’m in a dilemma if I should uninstall it and follow the same steps as before again.

Install base -19.2.1 It is a bugfix.

However, the tray icon is black is ok – right-click on it to choose wifi.
Wait a few seconds and left click on it and you should see the networks offered.

Sorry, I was tired, I actually meant base -19.2.1 (I edit my previous posts and the title).

              System:
                Host: presario Kernel: 4.9.212-antix.1-486-smp i686 bits: 32 compiler: gcc v: 8.3.0
Desktop: IceWM 1.6.5 Distro: antiX-19.2.1_386-base Hannie Schaft 29 March 2020
                base: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)

Right-click on the black tray icon offers 4 choices:
NET (this is grayed and not choosable)
eth0 (with a diamond on the left, meaning already active, I suppose)
              lo
wlan0 (with a diamond on the left, too)

I don’t know how to see the wifi networks offered.

                1. Make sure /etc/network/interfaces only has these 2 lines

                auto lo
                iface lo inet loopback

                2. reboot

                3. Right click on the arrows, turn wired off and wifi on. (Do you get wifi option?)

                4. Wait 5 seconds

                5. Right click and you should be offered networks to connect to.

                  1. It already has only the two lines you wrote.
                  2. I turned on the laptop just before step 1 and I didn’t make changes, so no need to reboot again.
                  3. I ran “connman-ui-gtk” and the arrows appeared. I right-clicked on them, turned Wired off and let only WiFi on. The tray icon for eth0 disappeared and only the black one for wlan0 remained.
                  4. I waited for more than 5 seconds.
                  5. I right-clicked on WiFi and a connman-ui-gtk window appeared:

                  Shared WiFi connection information
                  SSID:
                  Passphrase:
                  Apply Cancel

                  6. I completed the fields and clicked on “Apply”.
                  7. I tried to visit webpages, but without success.
                  8. I rebooted and tried to visit webpages again. No success, too.
                  9. I enabled Wired so as to be able to post here.

                    Well it should have connected.

                    Can you ping?

                    I’m out of ideas.

At this moment, I’m using the same wifi adapter on a different laptop (antiX-19_386-full) to connect with the same wifi network and send this post and, as you can see, there’s no problem.

Uh huh. Weird. Had to stop and think for a sec. So. If me. I’d blame bells and whistles on the newer rig because the older rig does not have as many.

So something is turned off on the HP somewhere.

If I have another pen drive. I would try f ull instead of base on the HP. As a test.

Can you check that there is no hardware switch to turn off wifi or something.

Can you connect on both laptops running live antiX-19.2.1 base from a usb stick?

Do you plug it into a usb port? If so, can you try another one?

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

So something is turned off on the HP somewhere.

Can you check that there is no hardware switch to turn off wifi or something.

I find no such a switch. How could it be? Both laptops don’t have their own wifi. And the wifi adapter worked on both of them before installing 19.2.1-base to the HP one.

Do you plug it into a usb port? If so, can you try another one?

If you mean the OS, it’s installed on hard drive. If you mean the wifi adapter, changing usb port didn’t help.

Can you connect on both laptops running live antiX-19.2.1 base from a usb stick?

Toshiba has only one working usb port, so I can’t use a live-usb and the wifi adapter simultaneously. Could I try with a live-CD instead?

If I have another pen drive. I would try full instead of base on the HP. As a test.

I downloaded 19.2-full and 19.2.1-base isos to do all these tests, but the hashes doesn’t seem to be the right ones:

                              $ md5sum antiX-19.2_386-full.iso
                              90fa7f640162b56e93ccd40072b53df4 antiX-19.2_386-full.iso
                              presario@presario:~/Downloads
                              $ md5sum antiX-19.2.1_386-base.iso
                              3e81a193ba4bbc59ba70cfb972449006 antiX-19.2.1_386-base.iso

                              But in the md5 files:

I downloaded the base.iso from sourceforge and the hash is ok. Now I’m downloading the full.iso.
