I was wondering if your plan was to use only a text-based system. CLI interface does not always mean text only.
I have found the antiX core system interesting in that it also includes some frame buffer graphics applications. If you can allow yourself to go outside of the “text only” requirement then there is the links2 browser with the -g option which will allow browsing the web with more than a text interface.
And for what it’s worth I use the mc editor and mc most of the time. Probably because I came from DOS and NC. On DOS I did use VDE a lot, a Wordstar clone. But I was not coding. Just writing docs. Now I like mc for editing config files. It’s easier using the mc interface for me. I can move around and use F2/F3/F4 to make changes.
