I tried it with several different kernels. Every time it sets the dpi to a very low number. You can not read the font. If you try to change the dpi to a higher number. It almost fixes things. But it won’t do it permanently. As soon as you reboot, your right back to a desktop you can’t read.
Steps I took:
1) I upgraded the kernel to 4.9.221
2) I rebooted
3) I used Control Centre to install nvidia driver
4) Rebooted, and couldn’t read the menu or anything on the panel.- This topic was modified 2 years, 7 months ago by gregorylock.

::@10:25 in this video tutorial, you can see howto select console font size.
(i recommend was the entire 18min video. Also check out the other vids on that runwiththedolphin YT channel when you have time)

^— command to launch the “antiX commandline controlCenter”console-font-select
^—- command to go directly to the font-setting utilityAfter setting, your selection should be stored & automatically reapplied during future boot sessions.
3) I used Control Centre to install nvidia driver
4) Rebooted, and couldn’t read the menu or anything on the panel.I haven’t used an nVidia driver in years. Mention the specific graphics card model & someone might recognize whether or not additional steps are required for its setup.

::Yes, we need more information about the hardware and if the driver is correctly installed.

::I had trouble with these forms. Yesterday when I started this post, I tried to post my hardware. To make a long story short, these forums called my post spam. I gave up and just tried to post some brief information. I’m mostly just warning others, that if you need to use driver Nvidia 340-108, your video card probably won’t work with antix 19.2.
You wanted to know what my nvidia hardware is.
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 210] vendor: eVga.com. driver: nouveau

OpenGL: renderer: NVA8 v: 3.3 Mesa 18.3.6 direct render: YesIn the past, I’ve had good luck with this graphic card. It works really well on Linux Mint 17 and 18 series. It also works well on some of the Linux Lite. I’ve had decent luck on Xubuntu 18.04. But It gives a lot of issues on MX Linux 19.2. I thought that antiX might be a good solution to the old computer. It does not appear to be a good solution because it has issues as soon as one tries to install nvidia driver. It doesn’t come as a surprise since, MX Linux and antiX uses from some of the same sources.
I don’t mind messing around some config files, if someone can tell me what files and what needs changed. If nobody hasn’t got a clue, I’m just to going to try some other lite distro on that computer. Because I don’t have time to just troubleshoot for no good reason. I mean this is not the only problem I ran into with antix on that machine. It appears that I would still need to fix two other issues. One must decide if it’s worth the time to put into it. I don’t have much time.

I will do a new installation including nvidia-driver-installation on the laptop as soon as I find time for it tonight and I will report how the driver behaves here.September 8, 2020 at 3:41 pm #41306Moderator

So we would have to take a closer look if there is already something going wrong on your desktop during the nvidia-installation. The log-file is located in /var/log/ddm.log
There is also the nvidia-settings after the driver installation
in menu > Applications > SettingsHave you tried to change anything there?
I know the problem with the wrong dpi and nvidiacards when I switch on an external monitor after the PC has already booted, this can be fixed by logging out and logging in or restarting icewm.
Also the installation of the beta-driver might worth a try.It is offered as an option during the installation. But you say you don’t have much time for experiments and I can’t offer you a simple solution at the moment, maybe someone else will get in touch and knows more.

::It’s been a full week since I last wrote anything. I’m a janitor for a school and my work load has been crazy this year. I come home and I’m way too tired to mess around with stuff.
I’m pretty sure that my specific nvidia card doesn’t get along with mx or antix linux. It even gives some problems with PC Linux and the latest Linux Mint. PC Linux it messes up the login screen. Linux Mint 19.x or 20 you got to bump the dpi up or down and then things seems to be ok. I’m just saying because it appears that this card gets strange with different linux distros. However if I use specifically Linux Mint 17.x or 18.x it works with the drivers just fine. Also Xubuntu 18.04 it gives no issues either.
When I’m installing the driver. I don’t know if I should be using the main driver or the one from the backports. Either way it’s a really old driver, and I don’t think nvidia is making anymore drivers for this card.
I tried installing the main driver, and I’ve tried the mx driver. They both give me the same problem.
Today I tried to install the MX Nvidia driver from the backports. If you want to take a look at the code. I put it on pastebin. I’m still new to these antix forums, so I’m just going to post url links this time.
Here is some screen shots I took.

::The driver installed very well, I see nothing strange in the log and inxi is showing the nvidia-driver loads and seems to work “direct render: Yes”
That the control centre looks a bit strange right after changing the dpi is totally normal.
The next time you open it it should be normal.
Could you do me the favour of trying the following:
In the menu at the bottom under Logout, there is “Restart Icewm”
Does it help ?September 12, 2020 at 4:14 pm #41480Membergregorylock

::Sorry I forgot you can hardly read the menu. Restart IceWM is under Logout
the second from the bottom with a round blue arrow. On the picture “06 Nvidia Issues” the font in the taskbar is OK. Also in the menu?
Is this after you restarted icewm ?If you have the time you could also post the output of
sudo cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
It might gives hints.September 12, 2020 at 5:18 pm #41485Membergregorylock
::I didn’t take a screen shot of that. All of those screen shots was taken right after I ran “Restart IceWM” and then Rebooted. In other words, “Restarting IceWM” only temporary fixed Control Centre after changing the dpi. I loose all the effects of the dpi settings after a reboot.
I’m jumping from computer to computer. I’m using my Mint Machine to write these posts. The Antix drive is in my icy dock. I can get you the “sudo cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log” from here. But I’ll need to put the Antix drive back into the other computer and boot in order to get you another screen shot etc.
Here is Xorg.0.log
