Please be gentle new to anTix, I have installed anTix 19.2 on a desktop all seems to work ok, but, on boot up to including login the screen is very dark. Have used app to increase backlight value fir day and night which makes the system useable. Unfortunately on reboot the screen returns to the very dim value and I again have to use the app to reload previous values set to make it again useable. Is there a way, I have read some notes which say editing files can achieve this, to set the backlight value so that the screen is bright from boot and remain so for all sessions. Any help appreciated

::Hello plipplop.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.I recommend you try out desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support in this forum, please explain in detail what is happening, don’t mince words, be thorough when writing, tell your computer characteristics such as make and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -Fxz from the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic that you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.
Please be gentle new to anTix
You first need to be aware of the information I indicated above and follow the guidelines on how to ask for help on the antiX forum.

I can’t understand why you installed antiX 19.2 and not “anTix 19.2” in December 2022. I installed antiX 19.2 in May 2020, that is, two years and seven months ago. After antiX 19.2, there were still improved versions (19.3, 19.4) until reaching antiX 19.5, and even then, it makes no sense to install antiX 19.5 if your computer is compatible with antiX 22 which is the latest edition.
Post the result of the command $ inxi -zv7 or $ inxi -Fxz to get help from experts.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.
Please be gentle new to anTix

::Please be gentle new to anTi
Don’t worry, we don’t bite 🙂
First, please, tell us what is the program you are using to set the brightness. Is it “Backlight Brightness” from the antiX menu or some other app?
Also, if your computer is a laptop, it may have dedicated keys (or a key combination) to control the brightness of the screen- have you tried that (that does work in my very old HP laptop).I may have one solution for you (something that you can place in your startup file to force your screen to always be as bright as possible:
antiX menu > Terminal > and enter this command there (you can copy and paste it and press enter at the end of the command)
connected_screen=$(xrandr -q | grep ' connected' | head -n 1 | awk '{print $1;}') && xrandr --output $connected_screen --brightness 1.0This does force my notebook’s screen to be as bright as possible (the last number on that command, it’s the brightness value. 1.0 is 100%, do not try to use a value higher than that! To have brightness at 90%, use the value 0.9, and so on).
If this works for you, you can place that command in your startup file (ask here, if you need help doing that)
Edit:
Like Marcelo said – probably it’s best to use the latest version of antiX available for you computer, if your hardware can handle that (you may have problems with kernels, video drivers, wifi, etc).
I do run antiX 21 on a laptop that’s so old it’s 32bits – it’s about 20 years old and it runs fine!Edit2:
For the less geeky, but still curious users out there, let me explain the command, that’s an ideal example of why knowing terminal commands is not necessary to use Linux, but it’s great for solving small and big problems.
The real command is after the “&&” sign. The first part merely automates the process of knowing that’s the name of your screen…So the first part of the command runs the “xrandr -q” command. That lists all the screens connected to your computer and gives information about them…
If you run that command, you get tons of info. I could just tell you to run that command, copy the name of your screen and wright it in the main command- but I choose to let the computer do that for you: it gets the output of the command and filters it, using the “grep” command, to show online the lines that have the text “connected”, then filters that result to display only the first line (with the “head” command), when filters that result to show only the first word (using the “awk” command)- thus getting the name of the internal screen of any laptop (or so I hope)
We save that result to a variable (called “connected_screen”) and then use that variable on the main command, instead of forcing you to type the name of your screen:
xrandr --output $connected_screen --brightness 1.0
If your monitor is called “LVDS1” is the same as running this far simpler command:
xrandr --output LVDS1 --brightness 1.0I hope this helps you…

Please check if you still have the issues with the screen being too dark on the antiX login screen and if you need to use the PPC teachings.
You can easily change the antiX login background image using the login manager program which can be found in the antiX menu, Applications, antiX, Login Manager.
Don’t forget to read the threads I indicated above.– – – – –
… as you rightly pointed out I had installed a somewhat older version so I took your advice and loaded 22 this afternoon.
December 22, 2022 at 1:47 pm #96054Memberplipplop
::Having looked at this problem further, I can only apologize for having created a problem where one did not exist, it was ultimately a laptop issue which i resolved, i cannot thank you enough for your help and am working my way through the documentation you suggested. Could i please clear up one point, where would i add scripts to be performed on boot, which file area would be best should I need to startup some method during the boot process. Once again thank you for all your help and I am so sorry if I confused the issue in my ignorance
