::Hi again,
Used package installer to install Pale Moon browser. Went OK.
However, when I looked in ‘Internet’, Pale Moon is not listed.
When I tried to open it in urxvt, I get:
$ palemoon bash: palemoon: command not foundAny suggestions?
Thanks.

::Tried installing 32-bit, non-SSE2 version, Pale Moon browser as instructed.
Package installer said it installed.
However, when I tried to locate it in the ‘Internet’ section of menu, it was not listed.
Tried to open it in terminal, but nothing happened.
Looked for it in terminal and got this:
$ locate /palemoon /etc/firejail/palemoon.profile /usr/share/icons/numix-square-antix/48x48/apps/palemoon.png /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/24x24/apps/palemoon.png /usr/share/icons/papirus-antix/48x48/apps/palemoon.png /usr/share/packageinstaller-pkglist/palemoon.pm /usr/share/packageinstaller-pkglist/palemoon_nonsse2.pmSo, program did not really install.
Any suggestions???
Thanks!

::I still suspect there was some corruption in the installation.
First, when you get back to connect your computer to the net try installing palemoon using the working terminal emulator:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install palemoon-nonsse2And see if it installs properly and can be launched. This program is almost 100% guarantied to install and launch. If it doesn’t, it means there is some trouble (possible corruption) on your machine and a re-installation from a verified media may be needed.
If palemoon works, reinstall some of the programs that we mentioned have problems. Launch the commands in the working terminal emulator.
Roxterm:
sudo apt purge roxterm sudo apt install roxtermPackage installer:
sudo apt purge packageinstaller* sudo apt install packageinstallerFirst, test if roxterm works after reinstalling. If it does, then probably other programs that were previously installed were corrupt.
If roxterm still doesn’t work after reinstallation, then it is possible that caprea was right and some software is limited in your system. If you can get palemoon to work, try signing in to the forum and pasting the output of
inxi -Fxz
So maybe someone with similar hardware can explain what to expect for this machine.Regards.

Sorry. I forgot it is roxterm-gtk2

Maybe you can copy by selecting and right-click > copy.

Good.
The problem with modern browsers + old CPUs + limited RAM. Maybe some other browser will do the trick on your old system.antiX Live system enthusiast.

In urxvt you can copy and paste by just marking the text in the terminal and then use the middle-button for pasting here.

Tried running roxterm after following directions, it shows up in menu, but does not open.
I tried opening it from terminal, but no go, as before…..
I did get results from running inxi command as follows:

::Since the hardware is very limited, use the Minimal options.
This will reduce RAM usage.
At login screen, toggle F1 to Minimal-IceWM for example.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Hi,
Here’s update on how things are working on the Vaio laptop.
Overall, it’s working quite well now, considering age and specs of laptop.
A. Programs
Spent quite a bit of time yesterday going through all the programs in the menu to see if the open.
Most programs do open, but there are a fair amount that do not.
Here’s list of programs (as listed in the Menu) that do not open:
Terminal
Web Browser
In Applications / antiX category:
Backlight Brightness
Chroot Rescue Scan
CLI APT-based Package Manager
Command Line Control Centre
Live-USB Kernel Updater
In Accessories category:
Calcurse
Midnight Commander Editor
In Games:
Gweled
Mahjonng
In Internet:
Ceni
Droopy
Firefox ESR
Modem Manager GUI
Transmission
In Multimedia:
Alsamixer
Alsamixer Equalizer
MPS-YouTube
Poor Man’s Radio Player
Speaker Test
In Preferences:
ADSL/PPPOE Configuration
In Programming:
Vim.tiny
In System:
Choose Startup Services
Assume if I want to know for sure, I need to try and install the programs listed and then see if they open.
B. Booting Up – Console Info
When I boot up, I see the following various lines in Console:
nce: Unable to init device /dev/ncelog (rc: -5)
…..AC ’97 1 access is not valid [0xffff…] removing mixer.
Snd_ali5451
……Setting sensor limits….No sensor found.
Try sensors-detectAny concern over these messages?
C. Conky – Battery
In Conky, battery only shows 0%.
Is there a way to get battery charge to be shown?
D. Connman
When the window opens up for you to select the browser to open, Pale Moon, the browser that I recently installed is not in the list. Is there an easy way to have it added to the list?
E. Audio
Good news!
I do hear audio when I run a video or sound file in a webpage.
Also, as directed, I played an audio mp3 file in xmms and I heard the audio.
That’s the good news.
However, I don’t have any audio volume control in the taskbar. Is this because I don’t have Alsamixer working right now or ?
Would be great to have volume control readily accessible.Again, overall, very pleased with how well antiX runs on such an old laptop and enjoy using antiX in general.
Thanks for any input!

[…]In Internet:

DroopyFor terminal based applications, change the terminal app using the instructions I gave before:
Use the Preferred Applications program in the Cntrol Centre to set the default terminal to the one you are using now.
and see if they load after the change.
If possible, when you again have free time, re-download the 19.3 ISO and try to boot live again with the new downloaded version. See if roxterm loads on the live system. I want to be sure that the problems you are experiencing are not due to corrupted a ISO.
B. Booting Up – Console Info
When I boot up, I see the following various lines in Console:

No idea. It seems related to the sound driver, but I am no expert reading the kernel messages.
C. Conky – Battery
In Conky, battery only shows 0%.For conky to display the correct battery level, we will have to figure out if the battery is recognized. Run in terminal:
ls -lh /sys/class/power_supply
If you have the green bar in the icewm toolbar indicating battery level, maybe changing the variable in conky from BAT0 to BAT1 (if that is the correct identifier) may work.
For now share the output of the command above.D. Connman
When the window opens up for you to select the browser to open, Pale Moon, the browser that I recently installed is not in the list. Is there an easy way to have it added to the list?I am not sure if this is connman, but if you mean the “Web Browser” menu entry, use the “Preferred Applications” program I mentioned to change the default web browser to palemoon. This should fix it so it would load properly when clicking the “Web browser” menu entry.
However, I don’t have any audio volume control in the taskbar. Is this because I don’t have Alsamixer working right now or ?
My guess this is because you are running minimal-icewm. try only desktop-session icewm (Menu > Desktop > Other Desktops > icewm). It takes over 8 MBs or RAM, but will give you the volume icon to manage/control the volume level.
If you see it uses too much RAM, create a key shortcut to raise and lower the volume, so you can do it without needing the volume icon.See the ~/.icewm/keys as I think a combination is already there (amixer sset Master 5%-/5%+). Change it to the key combination you prefer (if you are interested in following this path).

Some I can do soon, but the one about using a new iso will have to wait until next Friday. As I don’t have the Sony DVD drive with me right now.

::About changing the default terminal:
I was testing today different option of Preferred Applications, and it seems it changes the mimeopen behavior but not the x-terminal-emulator behavior. To change the default terminal, you need to (when other programs launch it), you need to run:
sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator
and write the number of the terminal emulator you want as default (in my case it showed “4. /usr/bin/urxvt” for urxvt).
You could also try the other terminal emulators to see which works for you.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::Hi,
Tried using the dvd Live version again….
Same problem with opening certain apps….so, maybe problem is the iso I burned…although I did check the checksum before burning disk.
Will try downloading iso file again and burning a new dvd. Then will report back on what happens.
As for battery, I got:
$ ls -lh /sys/class/power_supply total 0Tried IceWM again, and your right, see the volume control. So, that’s good.
Thanks.
