::Downloaded antiX iso again, checked file, then burned new dvd and re-did USB flash drive.
Booted up Vaio with both attached, tried running Terminal and Web Browser from menu, they did not open up. Tried File Manager and Editor from menu and it opened up Rox-Filer and Geany.
Did Run > rxvt and it opened it up.
Something odd….when I click on ‘Applications’ in menu, I don’t see all the Categories listed.
Just see a few programs listed: Print Settings, Qt5 Settings, Remove Menu Item, Screenlight, Set Font Size, Wallpaper, Windows Wireless Drivers.

::Hi again,
Happy New Year to everyone!
Hope everyone is doing well in 2021.
Meanwhile, realized it has been over 3 weeks since I last posted and no response.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Mark

::It sounds like you did not get a complete system; I question the integrity (and content of) the image you downloaded.
Please tell us explicitly which image (full name) you downloaded.
If you are able to access anything in the system, please provide details.
There is a command:
inxi -Fxz
that can help us figure out what is going on. If you cannot get to a place where you can run a simple command, then the image you copied is probably NOT the right one. Please start by at least explaining exactly what you downloaded and what you did after you downloaded the image and maybe, depending on what you can tell us we can suggest further details. So:
1. Provide the name and location of your antiX download.
2. provide as much system detail about hardware and software as possible; these things will help us provide further guidance. Thanks!

::Hi Brian,
Thanks for your help!
Have not used this Vaio since I last posted, since I thought is was not working properly.
Booted up Vaio now and menu items are listed as before. Go figure!
However, I tried opening up some of the programs that did not open with prior antiX install and they still do not open.
So, no change with the reinstall.
Don’t recall which server I used to download iso from, it was almost a month ago. However, I did checksum SHA256 check before burning dvd and also flash drive.
Think problem is likely what was mentioned previously that some programs are not compiled to run on the old cpu that Vaio has.
Already posted inxi info on page 3 of this thread, but I’ve attached a new file.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for your help, caprea!
Since the menu items showed up again as noted in my post above this one. I assume I don’t need to run that command. However, it is very good to know for the future if needed.

It doesn’t hurt to reinstall the desktop; it doesn’t harm anything but if the configuration is incorrect it should help.

Thanks again for your help, Brian!
Tried it, but did not make any difference in being able to open certain programs.

Thanks for your latest suggestion!
I did try that with the prior antiX install and programs still did not open.
To be clear, it is only certain (but quite a few…if interested, go back a page or so, to see the list….) programs that refuse to open.
Don’t have Vaio with me now, but will try doing this again early next week and report back.
