::hi BobC
about connman. .. in the taskbar at first it was difficult to see the faint, light colored fountain-ish icon yes a bit hard to see (or see the blue/green up/down arrows seen in my screenshot), You must have started it through Control Centre? once it is up there is a taskbar icon, if you just started with 19-a2 it is the light color; an update from the repo brought in numix-bevel-mini and that must be what changed/upgraded the icon here to a darker color of two monitors, I have played with icons a bit , so do not know for sure about that. a click on the taskbar icon for Open App, or from the control centre on connman, once into the gui there is a button for Settings lower left for setting taskbar icon in place. The gear icon right of connection type sets preference for each connection in a new window.
Getting to know a gui,, golly, who would think it,, in antix. love it.May 19, 2019 at 6:18 pm #21858ModeratorBobC
::ile, I just used the correct icon for that set of icons. It’s no use me trying to decide what icon is good or bad, but it is important to put it there so that people (including me) can find it to connect easily.
PS: I found the program with Midnight Commander, and found the right icon the same way, then used Geany to edit the toolbar file.

::hello anticapitalista
about libreoffice. opened libreoffice –writer in terminal. it complained of no jvm. Applied/installed on machine openjdk-11-jre and its dependencies. now no complaint opening writer in terminal.
This certainly is the fastest I have ever seen libreoffice open on any installation.
I have this question though,, does doing this (this type of package installing) mean machine is better for it? OR does it mean the machine now strays from testing the alpha2? (in this instance by adding java jre, but maybe it will be something else next time.) ?May 21, 2019 at 7:33 pm #21921Forum Admin

::a couple of items on a2
connman mostly connects automatically, but occasionally, on a cold boot, the connection doesn’t happen. it will eventually connect. my hardware in this case is pretty crappy so it may be unrelated to connman and more related to slow hardware (s21e with broadcom wireless).
really, really like the Boot Rescue menus. Used it to get into the system UEFI/bios, which was a nice touch. also booted an installed system from the live UEFI grub menus. too cool.
fluxbox did not have an applications menu on first boot. got one after I did a manual update-menus from the menu. also, the desktop files on the spacefm desktop appear to be empty. icewm and jwm appeared fine from what I could tell.
if anyone runs into their brightness being turned to 0 on intel hardware, try i915.invert_brightness=1.

::connman mostly connects automatically, but occasionally, on a cold boot, the connection doesn’t happen
I also note an issue with the automatically connection of connman and also thought it perhaps was related to my hardware.
The problem is shown here like this, if already another PC or laptop in the house is connected to the router, connman autoconnects fine on a cold boot and works flawlessly.
If the antiX19 laptop is the first and only PC in the morning connecting to the router on cold boot, connman will not autoconnect and also the connection is then unfortunately not entirely stable.It cuts the connection maybe twice then, I have to reconnect and afterwards it works from then on without problems.I really like connman, it’s faster than wicd and it has some other advantages, but that’s a problem.

::hi!
The only cons I found on antiX 19 a1 and a2 were this:
1- I only use it via live USB, no persistence. A1 did not suspend on my intel atom netbook (antix 16.x intalled, does), A2 did suspend, but when I first rebooted it presented me with a terminal only, even if I choose secure video mode. I had to try several options ( I belive f7 and then pressing space on choosing the video mode did the trick).
2- Maybe because of using connman (???) antiX 19 takes some 2-3 mb more of idle ram (no big deal).
3- I previously commented on the great looking, more modern icon style used. Papirus (I use it in MX) is now available out of the box? Great! But there are some very cryptic or poorly choosen icons in the control centre, once again I offer my help on a couple of icons (like the changing video resolution or one of the keyboard language options that I consider would be more understandable if if looked like a keyboard). Also the previous printer icon looked more like a printer than the current one. It looks like MX’s scanner icon… If you don’t want to spend the effort changing this, it’s literally no big deal.
4- I’m one of the loners that use fluxbox… Yeah, the icons look a bit low res, as I understand it, it’s a FB problem with round icons- not a deal breaker for me, but still, a bit of a eye sore for people that are picky with icons…
5- when I turn on the firewall it blocks my net connection, even when I tick off the block incomming traffic… Is this only on my machine or a general problem? I believe I tested the firewall in a1 and it turned on, but I can’t recall if I tested net traffic after doing that…Now the good parts:
1- I have no idea why Libreoffice 6.X starts in some 2-3 seconds (after the first time), even in the installed version antiX 16.X (and 17.X live usb) took some 3-4 times that! A newer version that starts faster even without the quick start menu? Great! Maybe antiX now caches LO info in a better way?
2- once again I have no idea why, SMYoutube player open 360 or 480 video streams almost instantly, takes some 2-3 seconds to start viewing the video. Used to take some 10 seconds or more, even in the installed version, in the same or better hardware! Streaming videos with reasonable resolution, with no adds? Better than youtube red 🙂
3- the antiX team after polishing antiX internal machine decided to polish a little more the exterior… First new sweet log off icons, ubuntu fonts, now new icon themes. Wise choice, in my humble opinion. I’ve been runnig antiX for about 2 years now. Only during the last half of that time I’ve been tinkering with it’s appearance. It runs fast out of the box, now it also looks a lot better!
4- The default desktop image and, even better the darker “back” image, are some of the best I’ve seen in any distro. Don’t “brand” it, it’s perfect the way it is!!! (It’s just my personal taste, I admit)Suggestions:
1- if the antiX team is polishing the UI why not considering a bit of eye candy with skippy-xd? It’s a great task switcher- does not take any idle ram (or so I believe) and it’s a 2XX kb deb file… I even run it direclty without having installed it! No dependencies on antiX/MX
2- I’ve been paying some attention to Manyroad’s efforts regarding the antiX UI. Making jgmenu available out of the box could be nice- the only thing that convinced me trying it out was finding out it has a in-built application search. Open in, start typing and it only shows the apps that are in the search term. Just like whisker menu in MX. It takes some 4-5mb od RAM but you can configure it to not stay on ram if not being used. In my very old machines, when configured that way and running from live usb it has a very small lag ( Fluxbox menu is really instant). The lag is about the same as I have in my MX box when pressing the “windows” key, less than a second…Folks, it’s a great release, so good and stable that I want to install it on my netbook to replace antiX 16.X, even being just a alpha!
If you have a spare usb stick and can boot from it, try it, you won’t regret it!P.
Edit 24/5/2019:
The live usb “boot to terminal only” situation happened again in: I had to choose the first boot option and f7- space to be able to boot to my Desktop. One thing was messed up when it booted: My “Live” folder was missing… I found it in a folder like “/boot/live*”. Very strange, made it hard to apply my customizations, the paths were all wrong)
Once booted to my desktop, it’s still rock solid and fast (using SM Youtube player is a pleasure now it opens the videos almost instantly)
Another Suggestion: Ungoogled chromium (https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium) runs very light and fast in my A2 live USB (via Appimage). I mean, in antiX Fluxbox, without desktop icons, I have this full fledged Internet browser up and running in way less than 300 Mb (a nice option for folks with less than 1 Gig of RAM). Someone already commented this browser was good on another thread. I agree- but, it also seems to be a on man only project, so, there’s no certainty of upgrades. In my limited experience it runs as light as a chromium based browser can run, and in much less ram than Firefox, or Firefox-ESR. Can this be added to the package installer, so the “regular” anti users can try it out?- This reply was modified 3 years, 11 months ago by PPC.

::Anticapitalista,
1. I really like the new default background. Just one opinion, I guess.
2. I noticed that on my Grub boot screen menu this distro is listed as “Debian”. It’s an EFI system, and I think I maybe used boot repair, and possibly that’s when it set it.
It’s been quite stable. Good job!

Totally agree with both of you, it’s completely perfect !
2. I noticed that on my Grub boot screen menu this distro is listed as “Debian”I’ve once noticed this behaviour after a grub-update from debian

::It looks like there is a problem with boot repair. I tried running it from 17.4.1 then from 19.a2, and also tried reinstalling bootrepair-antix. Its at version 17.9.

::What I found on 19a2:
1. New (optional) icon theme on fluxbox looks great as a proof of concept. The new over-all look is great. Love the wallpaper (liked old one, though, too).
2. connman working perfectly – (I normally use/used ceni, but tried connman – working fast & perfectly).
3. I like the help screens on installer. I tried out btrfs to test the compression (selected best compression) – but installer gave me ext4 instead.
4. I noticed the isomount & isoumount menu entries. I haven’t looked into them fully, but I like that addition…
5.firewall configuration is not working (from menu, it asks for authentication then quits; or says auth failed if run from antiXcc & tried to unlock).Firewall enabled prevents firefox from connecting.I’ll continue playing around…
Over all, excellent. I can’t wait to wipe it all out and start again on a3/b1!- This reply was modified 3 years, 11 months ago by christophe.

::Is there going to be a 32-bit version of 19?
Yes but we’ve been only doing 64-bit full for the early testing. Making all those iso files is a lot of work.
@christophe, I use isomount, isoumount, and dfh from the command line. I use these programs every day. I usually have the latest antiX iso and latest MX iso mounted. The program also mounts the linuxfs file and now (perhaps not in aniX-19.a2), it will mount the largest squashfs file it can’t find the linuxfs file. This is very useful for peeking around other distros.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, if you have iso files in some directory $dir, then this set of commands is pretty cool:
isomount $dir/*.iso sudo chroot-rescue-scan -d /mnt/iso isoumount allThis will mount all of the iso files in $dir and also mount their squashfs files (if they have them). The 2nd line will list all of these that look like Linux distros, try to give you the name of each distro and then lets you to chroot into any of them. The third line undoes what the first line did.
