Hmmm … Don’t you think that it looked better “as intended”?

@skidoo- I like surf and I usually always have it in my system, but installing it does not imply only a very small donwload on antiX 19b2:

          sudo apt install surf

          – Possible bug: when testing antiX19b2 live from usb on a netbook with 1024X600 display, IceWM BlueDay theme did not display file manager and web browser toolbar icons (but displayed the USB eject button fine).
Switching to JWM I noticed both icons displayed fine there. If I forced IceWM BlueDay theme to use the same default icons for FM and Web Broser from JWM, they showed up fine. I did not test this an further…
          – Possible bug: once, and only once (among almost 10 times), while powering off from live iso from usb, I got the old style many lines of text, instead of the usual “Press Alt f1 for…” Strange…
          – Possible bug: I noticed that the mouse pointer looks different, for example, when hovering on a weblink it turns into a little white hand pointing left. I went to CC and selected Adwaita, restarted the session and realized there was no change to my pointer. Selecting other mouse pointer and restarting session worked. So I realized: the default Adwaita pointer and the preview from the control centre do not match (the preview shows the mouse pointers I’m used to, from previous antiX versions, not the “new” pointers)
          – Possible bug: I tried using a windows driver for my wi-fi card. In the “Wireless Network drivers” window, if the user clicks the “configure network” button, antiX complains that it cant find it a network configuration tool…
          – Out of date links: using JWM- menu-help-jwm-homepage does not open anything. The correct link is http://joewing.net/projects/jwm/
Also the Archwiki JWM link does not open in Dillo, but open on Firefox. The same thing happens with the provided on the menu for https:/help.ubuntu.com/community/Gufw link.
The link http:/www.partimage.org/Partimage-manual_Usage does not open in Dillo. It opend in Firefox and pointd to the current link http://www.partimage.org/manual/Basic-usage/, that link works fine in Dillo.
The Rox manual currently is on http://rox.sourceforge.net/Manual/Manual/Manual.html (that link opens fine in Dillo)
          – Not a bug, but a strange happy RAM usage difference (using live 64bits): on my desktop with 3 gig of ram I get antiX19 to run in about 120Mb (minimal desktop, live via ISO from HD), on USB live on a netbook with 1 Gig of shared RAM, “free -h” showed I was running in some 98MB of RAM on idle (Min-IceWM with BlueDay theme)!!! WOW! A full featured, “cutting edge” OS, very nice looking in less than 100Mb! I wonder if the difference comes from some start preferences, or maybe the video driver (netbook is Intel, desktop has a NVIDIA card- if that matters)?
          – No longer buggy: I’m happy to report that SMtube now works out of the box, faster than ever (some 2-3 seconds to start playing a 360 or 480 dpi video stream, even on my crappy old netbook).

EDIT: found a minor visual bug: if using the Lines wallpaper, if the user logs off, the blurred log-in screen shows not only the lines but also the word “antiX”,on the top right of the lines…

Note: as per anticapitalista’s request, I’m not commenting any further, on this thread, about the “visual aspect” of antix19b2, or no longer, out of the blue, offer to fix anything related to that. Fortunately now antiX comes, out of the box, with everything I want to make it look perfect for me, I don’t even need to install anything else, just change some defaults. At least from my part, I only offered constructive suggestions to improve even more this great OS and help “fix” some very minor details in the very small way my limited know-how allows me to… I believe we should all do as anti asked, and stop publishing stuff about the beta’s “visual aspect” here and worry about possible real bugs.

          P.

Hardly “a bug”, except if I’m creating the bugs. 😉

If you take a look at my “as intended” post above, you’ll clearly
notice that it’s exactly the same (except for blurred) as the:

I had the same problem with Beta 1 and have it again with beta 2, but not really a problem for me. What worked for me was restarting the networking service. I only had to do it once, on that session (restarting also works), and the wifi could detect the routers again.

              sudo service networking restart

Probably someone will correct me and say I must not do that and instead do ifdown and ifup. Sorry for that.

I am trying to install some language meta-packages for LibreOffice via the Package Installer. The sources seem to get apt-get updated, the Terminal appears and crashes in a second and the message “Do you want to exit Package Installer” appears as if the installation is finished without actually anything being installed.

                  Hi, orcrist

I am trying to install some language meta-packages for LibreOffice via the Package Installer.

Try to find the package with Synaptic (Control Center > System > Package Manager).

Does someone know where the logs for the Package Installer are located? It may be interesting to see what error orcrist found.

orcrist, please do as anticapitalista says. If possible also do the installation a gain but this time execute the package installer from terminal:
                      sudo packageinstaller
Install the libreoffice language pack again, and when it ends, paste here all the output in the terminal. this may help find out the problem.

I tried ifdown (it didn’t know what wlan0 was)

I tried sudo service networking restart

I also tried modprobe -r b43 then modprobe b43 and that didn’t help

I also tried turning the wifi switch off then on

I ran inxi, lsmod and lspci to text files and zipped the output and attached them here. Can’t do much further with that machine.

PS: I noticed a difference on lsmod where mmc_block wasn’t there on 19b1 but appears on 19b2

PSS: Once I installed to the hard drive, Connman worked normally and is now working fine

                              Xecure,

No joy with the newer kernel. (4.19.0-5-amd64)

                              Still no sound.
Behavior is the same reacting in the control panel and when running the sound test commands from terminal.

The AlsaMixer shows (correctly I believe) Card: HD-Audio generic
and Chip: Realtek ALC1220 (Also correct)

The little speaker on the panel is up, the mixer channels are all up, with numbers, not muted.

inxi is below, showing the beta2, the motherboard, and Audio, besides the hdmi, the Device-2 AMD Family 17h HD Audio. This name seems a bit too much to me, like over specified.

Remember the on-board sound works out of the box in MX 18, and antix 17, and 16 as I recall. No configuration, except maybe 16, where the sound card selector produced a working sound for the first time on this board in linux fore me two years ago! So a totally new kernel, same problem, something is different, and this “AMD Family 17h HD Audio” does not look right.

There must be something wrong with the driver then.

Please, try again to search the dmesg output.
                                dmesg | grep "audio"

Play again any sound and check the end of dmesg for errors
                                dmesg | tail

That is why it is important that we find the origin of the issue. Or else you could also find yourself with the same problem with MX 19.

                                For the future (not related):

No joy with the newer kernel. (4.19.0-5-amd64)

You probably know this, but just in case I will write it down.
I don’t know how MX works, but here you have to manually install the new kernels. The newest kernel will be super-easily found in antiX Package Installer (under Kernels). Always choose it from there, so that all the vulnerability fixes can be downloaded from there.
Or search through synaptic. Search for “linux-image-4.19” and “linux-image-4.19” and install the latest with security patches (right now, 4.19.52)
                                Or from terminal
                                sudo cli-aptiX
Search for antiX kernels > View leading results > choose which to install.
Off topic: I really enjoy the cli-aptiX, as it makes it super easy to choose any antiX kernel without having to navigate any menus.

                                  Thanks Xecure,

Can you give some more detailed instruction on how to execute the command you showed.

                                  dmesg | grep “audio”

Play again any sound and check the end of dmesg for errors
                                  dmesg | tail

I am doing something wrong. Do I navigate to the var/logs directory and run those commands in the terminal?

Because I get nothing, or the “command not found” error.
