::BobC-
what version are you running? I don’t have that problem on 64 bit full.
Full & Base x64
Are you referring to Preferences or Help?
Apologies – When testing I may have done something to the help files and will edit that from the posting.
Best to start with a fresh install and post it if the problem remains.
However, “Preferences” – Scalar and String menus are the same on the install media and HD installation and do not appear to function – are they meant to, or are those sections just a reference so that you easily see what the existing settings are?

::Main Menu – IceWM:
The new “Preferences” option in the main menu (a very nice addition):
Scalar & String: is that just informational or are settings supposed to be able to be changed from there?
Rej, The menu items starting at KeyWin and all the ones below it just display the current settings. To change the settings, you need to go to Control Centre, Desktop, IceWWM settings, Preferences tab and make your changes and save them there.

::BobC-
Thanks for the clarification. This new menu makes it so much easier to find the settings to change through “CC-Desktop-Edit IceWM Settings”. This feature is fantastic and must have been a lot of work to compile.
I managed to break the Help menu on several installations with testing. Should have checked this more thoroughly by looking at the install media first before posting. Lesson learned…

::New bug report (hopefully this proves to be useful):
On the computer I’m currently working on, (dell mini9, 32-bit, latest antix 4.19 i486 kernel, frugal from hdd) I encountered some errors while using beta 3:1. I set the rox panel to open on the left side on space-fluxbox. Upon starting the session, the panel comes up, but when I left-click on any open place on the desktop, the panel disappears. It requires me to toggle it twice to get it to reappear. Then it stays, and I can use it, as normal.
2. I wanted to make a smaller home persistence file. If I try to resize via “set up persistence” it encounters an error upon reboot and the new homefs is renamed “homefs.bad.” It mounts the original one. Trying to work around that error, I booted a live-usb & deleted the homefs (after a remaster with /home included). Upon reboot from the hdd frugal, I created a new homefs during the reboot process, but an rsync error prevented it from copying the 37MB from the linuxfs to the homefs. (The message went by so fast that’s all I remember. I skimmed through /var/logs to see if I could find something regarding it, but I couldn’t find anything that looked related.)
confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

::We’ve got two design issues in antiX 19 beta …
The first one is in PrettyPink theme.
That one ‘cries for’ the missing PrettyPink GTK theme which got forgotten.
The consequences of missing GTK theme can be seen on the screenshots below.

::The second issue is with Breathe themes …
Somebody tried to add Medium and Large version to them.
I’d like to suggest removing the Medium and Large and reverting (renaming back) the Small versions to what they were.
Breathe themes can’t be enlarged the usual way, but need two new sets of graphics.
Enlarging them in usual IceWM way results in … see screenshots.

::I would like to suggest cleaning out the default Firefox bookmarks. Most of them (all the political ones in particular) aren’t a great first impression for antiX, perhaps it is best to just keep the ones for the antiX forums and sites and some of the default Mozilla ones.
Otherwise it’s a cluttered list. The first time I tried antiX and saw those bookmarks I thought my system was infected!August 26, 2019 at 6:55 am #26356Moderator

::A quick couple of questions… First a bit of background. I am building/ testing a Tiling Window Manager version of antiX19b3. Currently I have the following Window Managers on the setup, 2 are tiling one is not (for setup purposes and development use as I build the tilers).
My non-tiler is space-jwm (all fluxbox and icewm variants have been removed)
My tilers are:
1. herbstluftwm
2. bspwm
… I’ll add one or two more later, I hope.I have edited slim such that all I get at login are the current active window managers. I edited slim.conf for that. Now at login all I get are the choices for which there is data. I, also had to remove my non-used jwm*.desktop files from /usr/xsessions so slim didn’t have jwm-rox etc.
Now to my challenges/questions:
1. I am baffled as to where I can make changes to the Desktop Choice Menu (see image). I’d like to remove invalid and duplicated jwm choices that currently appear. Ideas???
2. Because I often install and work this type of effort in Virtualbox… is it possible to have antiX19 default to exec rather than noexec on cd disk mounts?Personally, I think that should be for the actual base system… but pointers on making it happen just for me is also appreciated.
3. Is it also possible for antiX to have a default media mount point? Right now I have to create one manually in order to get access to Virtualbox Guest Addions (I always create /media/sr0 )As an aside, I have my setup working with Debian Testing (which doesn’t look very different from Buster just yet).
Thanks to everyone for the great work.

Maybe I would cry all day and leave it far behind me.More like, for reason of common sense. Deep down they’re just as bizarre as bookmarks to YouTwitFace, but there is no context or apparent reason as to why the links appear in the bookmarks, and it looks like some lunatic has hijacked the browser. Why unnecessarily piss off users or scare them away?
@manyroads: have you looked into i3 or sway for tiling WMs? Note that sway is just a Wayland-based analog of i3.
See if running sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run gets around the noexec business.August 26, 2019 at 8:22 am #26371Forum Admin

It is included on beta3.
If you are upgrading from earlier betas/alphas, then you need to install prettypink-themesPhilosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::I would like to report that even trying antiX b3 usb live I experimented, a single time, loss of internet access, using a network cable- Conky showed something like 0-30 bits download. The situation was solved by starting connman gui, disconnecting the network there and then reconnect again.
I also noticed a tiny bit more idle RAM use- in my netbook it was, using jwm, without desktop icons, or language select icon running, on 98-99 MB idle RAM and now it’s about 102-104 MB (tested running “free- h” from the terminal). Does it have anything to do with the kernel, maybe? Or is B3 running some different app on the background?
I’m happy to report that a small problem was fixed on b3- on my netbook, on b2 the quick start icons for file manager and browser did not show up (but they showed up fine using the same live usb on my desktop)…
I know this is no place to talk about antiX “looks” (sorry anticapitalista, I don’t mean to disrespect your wishes) but is the dev team by any chance thinking about changing the default conky in the final version?- I don’t mean because it may clash with the default wallpaper, but because it takes so much space showing (for most users) irrelevant information- it can skip a few options, use finer graphs, and it ends up looking almost like a square, showing almost 100% of the same info… One side note- I saw, here in the forum, conky displaying interative log off/power buttons- I have not tested this, but if it works without eating away at the idle RAM usage, it would be a universal (across all desktops) way to access the power buttons (it would have to still display a confirmation dialog, to prevent acidental clicking the desktop buttons)- this would respect the long time Dev’s option to use Conky out of the box and make the OS even more usable…
P.
As aways, a very, very nice version!

::I reported in B2 that Firejail needs firejail-profiles to run. Firejail will open an application but then cannot actually function without the profiles.
Firejail
Firetools
Firejail-profilesFirejail-profiles is missing in Beta 3 also. It is in Synaptic and can be installed manually.

Otherwise it’s a cluttered list. The first time I tried antiX and saw those bookmarks I thought my system was infected!When I see the username I think maybe you are infected. That gives the impression of a gun nut, I met enough of those in my military career, my thoughts on that would probably get me banned. thanks.
I would not cry to see what you call political statements removed but be pretty pissed off. If you dońt like it just remove them on your system or just move on. Your way your choice.
