AntiX B3 Base install – to run Firefox esr and other browsers, and display international fonts/characters properly (there are empty boxes or boxes with numbers where the script should be) – Wikipedia, maps, Asian or Arabic sites, etc. –

      What package is needed?

The Full B3 and antiX 17 Base has it by default.

        fonts-vlgothic for Japanese
        fonts-wqy-microhei for Chinese

        Maybe these two as well?
        fonts-crosextra-caladea
        fonts-crosextra-carlito

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

          Thanks anticapitalista –

The Full version B3 and antiX 17 Base version have this function by default – not required to install those packages – they are included.

For instance, if you go to any page in Wikipedia or Youtube or Google-maps, and it has special characters or a mix (ie. Greek, African, Chinese simplified, Chinese tradional, Iranian, Japanese, Russian, Indian, etc.) regardless of the individual language, it will display special scripts as they should.

In the B3 19 Base version, this does not function by default. You would need to install every font for every special-character script there is, to have them display in Wikipedia, maps, websites, etc.

          What I am asking:

Has this function been omitted intentionally in antiX 19 Base install?

Synaptic Package Manager resizing option possibly missing.

When pointed at, the line between the packages list and descriptions normally turns to a double arrow to move it up or down, depending on whether you would like to view a larger section on one or the other.

Works like this in antiX 17, MX and Debian 10 “Buster”. But not in antiX 19 Base or Full versions – no double arrow – cannot move line.

Is there another feature in this version of Synaptic that makes it move?

When I see the username I think maybe you are infected. That gives the impression of a gun nut, I met enough of those in my military career, my thoughts on that would probably get me banned. thanks.

I think you’re reading into things a little too much. Not going to go into details here, but let’s just say that the reason I selected that user name is not what you think.

I would not cry to see what you call political statements removed but be pretty pissed off. If you dońt like it just remove them on your system or just move on. Your way your choice.

And likewise, if you want political bookmarks in your Firefox install, you can add them yourself. This isn’t all about you.

To put it into perspective let’s look at the code names antiX uses. Now, code names (like my user name) are quite benign as is, and it’s obviously a part of the system. It’s not intrusive or “shoved in your face” and doesn’t make the system look hijacked. It’s up to them whether or not they want to get offended by a person’s name. Despite the political nature of the code names, I appreciate the dash of character they add to antiX.

In comparison, the default bookmarks list is unnecessarily crowded with political links. I first discovered those when they appeared in the drop-down menu that appears under the address bar, and it’s gives the impression the browser was hijacked by extremists. To someone who’s never seen them before it can be a bit of a shock.
It’s even comparable to OEM systems coming supplied with loads of crapware and useless junk, including advertising-related bookmarks and toolbars.

hi rej . synaptic. I am just obstinate enough to refuse rejection of the operation to pull down that description window bar. so right away just clicked anyway with the single arrow ,, it worked. no double arrow, but the function is there. We are lucky to have synaptic with buster; a small thing like this will be insider delight to manuever.
did not find it compelling to try other mouse pointer collections.
Thanks to developers for furnishing synaptic package manager is much desirable nearly necessity for me.

by the way, rj, I do wish encourage you to report things like this about synaptic, because many a developer does not leave the terminal for apt. Some devs do not much see synaptic. In the case of anticapitalista there is evidence of attention to the synaptic interface.
                Thanks for reporting.

I made a quick demo video of antiX19 b3 to show some of the IceWM features. I’ve never made anything like it before, so be forgiving, please

                    Hi ile-

Thank you! Since the single arrow does not function in MX, Deb 10, and antiX 17, and no double arrow appears, it never occurred to me that it would work that way.

                      BobC –

You have a lot packed into 13 minutes, demonstrated very nicely, covering the excellent features of antiX 19. It doesn’t move along so fast that you have to keep going back to understand it. The voice is clear, pleasant and completely understandable.

Great introduction for a new user and those who have been running it right along and want to familiarize with the new menus and such, quickly. It keeps your attention at a good pace.

                      Well done!!

                        no double arrow appears

The problem is due to a malformed line within /root/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
                        gtk-icon-theme-name=Oxygen White
                        ^—– should be: oxy-white

Instead of hand-editing root’s settings.ini file, you can resolve the problem by launching lxappearance AsRoot,
navigate to the MouseCursor tab and select any cursor theme. When you click Apply, lxappearance will update the settings.ini file
Close and relaunch synaptic (or any GTK3-themed application, AsRoot) and mouse cursors will be correctly displayed.

note: the Oxygen White cursor theme lacks a row-resize (aka vert.double.arrow) mouse cursor ~~ it displays a generic “h_split” cursor both when hovering GtkPaned vertical or horizontal separators.

Yes, so that the iso will still fit on a cd.

Would you know if there is possibly a way to install all the fonts at once that pertain to foreign scripts?

                                Hello-

I had posted in B2 feedback regarding the Rox-IceWM disappearing from the “Other Desktops” menu.

When B3 had the same behavior, I thought maybe it was removed for a reason. So just used log-out F1 on the installations I had tested Xfce on.

Then when viewing BobC’s new video, it displayed the Rox-IceWM option in the Menu.

I re-installed B3 completely to determine where the option in the Menu disappeared. The repo was down, so just did some configurations in the menu (to get everything out of the way that was not being used – commented out), Rox-panel, WiFi, and Wallpaper, checking between everything that was done (restarting).

As soon as the repo was up again and it could be updated, that is when it immediately disappeared from the menu.

Attached are screenshots of my destop and BobC’s video.
