I installed antiX 19 as a dual boot on an old intel box that has MX 19 installed
MX has no trouble with WiFi whatsoever but antiX keeps dropping the connection
Also connman struggles to make the connection… any ideas appreciated …

::Not an expert but I recall several other people have struggled with antiX 19 wi-fi issues, you can search the forum antiX 19 posts.
Also, it may be useful to provide more information – 32/64 bit installation, which network manager do you use (ceni/conman)?
Try to search in the web, e.g.
conman wifi linux drops. Also, it can be a power-saving issue as well; a friend had troubles with it in Fedora and he had to disable it.
Hope this gives you a good starting point, at least.

::It’s a 32-bit box and I’m using connman…The same box dual boots with MX 19.1 and 19.1 has no wifi problems
Does it make sense to run lshw -c network separately for each distro and compare wireless drivers ??March 27, 2020 at 1:24 am #33877Member

::1) What happens with the device prior to the loss of wi-fi?
Is it unattended and some power-saving program switches off the wi-fi in good intention.2) Information from logs:
Is it possible to obtain information from logs, e.g.
/var/log/dmesg
/var/log/kern.log
/var/log/conman/ <– if present
regarding the wi-fi (have no wi-fi on my PC, hence I cannot suggest what to search for) just after the drop has occured?3) Comparing drivers in MX vs. antiX:
If it helps, why not.4) Switch ‘conman’ to ‘ceni’
This recent post (antiX 19, 386) explores a different issue but it contains a suggestion (with steps) to replace ‘conman’ with ‘ceni’, see this link.5) Update kernel to a newer one:
Probably via Synaptic, install both headers and image, e.g.
linux-<headers|image>-5.4.0-4-686PS: Sorry, I somehow missed that you have mentioned ‘conman’ in your first post already.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::installed newest kernal I could find on Synaptic and still the same problem (but now it drops after every 5-7 min vs every 2 min with the old kernel)
Don’t understand why MX (installed on the very same Intel 32-bit box) can get wifi to work perfectly
Also tried to run ceni but it gave an error message about some conflicting file that it wants me to delete but I have no idea where the file is located
Not sure if I’m supposed to remove connman BEFORE running ceniMarch 27, 2020 at 5:48 pm #33936MemberAA BB
::PS I remember a post a while back that suggested Power saving settings can mess-up wifi.
… How do I get to my power saving settings in antiX fluxbox menu??March 27, 2020 at 6:58 pm #33937Moderator

::PS just got the news from anticapitalista about the 28 March antiX release that includes an updated kernel
… I cant update my current version because my wifi is so unreliable, so I’m wondering it it makes sense
to overwrite my previous antiX install with the 28 Mar versionMarch 28, 2020 at 9:35 pm #33985MemberAA BB
::No luck with antiX 19.2-base-386 which does not contain connman ..only ceni
ceni repots “scan initiated” but produces no scan results.
antiX 19.1 connman was able to scan AND connect but not ‘hold onto’ the wifi connection.A real bummer since the rest of 19.2 on liveUSB works great

Actually connman is included on the base version. There is only a crude gui front end.
Type connman-ui-gtk in a terminal and you will see two arrows in the taskbar.
Right-click on the arrows, turn off eth and turn on wifi.
Left-click to set up your network.- This reply was modified 3 years, 1 month ago by anticapitalista.
