      Hi-

I installed apt-notifier and it does not appear to be functional in XFCE, LXDE, or any DE or WM in antiX 21 – is it missing dependencies?

      Thank you.

Edit: Found the answer in another post – ‘python3-distutils’ needs to be installed.

Hi, why do you believe that

it does not appear to be functional

        ?

Any Debian/antiX package should, when installed using the apt[-get|itude], should pull in all its dependencies if properly built.
I do not use this package myself as I occasionally check for upgrades myself.

        My recommendations/tips are to:
        1) Perhaps, one needs to put it into ‘~/.desktop-session/autostart’… unless it is triggered via ‘cron’ automatically after an install.
        2) Run ‘man apt-notifier’ OR ‘apt-notifier –help’ OR ‘which apt-notifier’.
If the man-pages does not exist, help does not help, then the last option should point to the binary/script.
If it is indeed a script, you may open it and examine it with the hope of it providing more details.
        3) Wait for someone else who is more experienced to provide other answer(s).

In general, I would expect antiX tools to work best in the desktops provided in antiX by default, i.e. not XFCE and LXDE.

          Hi sybok-

I should have mentioned that this is “Base” x64.

I expected to run into some quirks. There were almost none. They put together a very nice minimal OS for 21. Aside from LibreOffice needing ‘libreoffice-gtk3’ dependency, it runs perfectly.

Apt-notifier was installed through Synaptic and then again through the Package-installer – it did not open.

However, with its dependency (‘python3-distutils) added, it functions as expected, in IceWM, Openbox WM, XFCE, LXDE and Mate Desktop Environments.

          Thanks for your reply!
