      Finally tried AntiX 21.

I had read beforehand that the idea was to replace SpaceFM with zzzFM, so I was kind of ready.
When finally giving it a try, I noticed something: when opening text files with zzzFM they’re opened by default with Leafpad instead of Geany.
Though if using ROX filer they’re still opened with Geany by default.

      Was this a planned change?
      Thanks.

Just set preferred applications as you wish, the behaviour was same on 19.

What behavior? SpaceFM opening text files by default with Leafpad on 19.4?
I’m sorry, but this would be totally false. Geany was used by default.

But yes, I know how to set preferred applications; I’m not complaining neither.

Also, I noticed zzzFM always creates directories thumbnails/normal under ~/.cache. What are they for? Just curious.

          Thanks again.

You were probably running it in a root window. If you look in View > Preferences > Advanced you can see where to change it…

I have the preferences exactly as you do, yet zzzFM still uses Leafpad as new default for plain text files at least when using AntiX 21 base live system.

Ok, I think I’m already pestering a lot. Should not be.
Perhaps it was just a normal change, just like packages coming and going (such as libenchant, for spell checking in IRC clients, default present in 19.4, but have to be installed in 21).

Maybe I overthought too much. Sorry.

Just final point, what are thumbnails/normal directories under ~/.cache for?
              Thanks.

If it’s a root window it should use leafpad the way its configured.

Did you try switching to large icons?

No, it’s not a root window.

I do know how to change preferred applications, already did; just saying this seems to be the “new” behavior at least when booting AntiX 21 base, live system; either by double-clicking the plain text file, or by right-clicking -> Open, it’s listed Leafpad now at top.

However, on ROX Filer, and when opening the “Editor” application apart, it’s still Geany.

Your preferences screenshot, in my case it’s exactly like that, and also when booting AntiX 19.4 with SpaceFM, just checked it. As you describe it, this would now turn a bit intriguing… it’d mean that zzzFM on AntiX 21 is *not* following the “Editor: Geany %F” setting at all…

Regarding the other thing, so thumbnails/normal directory is for when switching to large icons view?

Sorry, I was using a 19.4 system when I tested.

You are correct, on antiX 21 the default is to open with Leafpad, not Geany like with 19.4. I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but it’s not too difficult to change:

To make it open with Geany instead, in zzzfm, go to the file, right click > Properties > Click Info > Opens With > Choose > click Geany > check Set as Default application for this file type > Click Ok

To change the icon size in the file panel (I think each of the 4 panels are separate), right click a folder or file in the panel > View > Style > check Large Icons. That panel should now show large icons instead of small ones
