This Acer Aspire 3800 Desktop PC used to be the wifes system.
USB boot does not work anymore.
      Even with PLOP.
So got me -dvrw disc because my burner on another computer is picky.
      sudo apt update
      sudo apt dist-upgrade
      sudo sensors detect
      sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

Already done. Been fighting this bios and computer all day to get a operating system going on here. Large hardrive in here so I fought it tooth and nail. Since hardware was not cooperating.

Now the antiX 21 dvd won’t boot anymore. Like I said. Fighting this thing.

So booted a puppy cd to fix swap from 40 gig to 4 gig. Used the leftover as storage.

@rokytnji: I think we’ve all been there at one time or another!

Several years ago I was putting together (or updating) one of those “supposedly fast” or efficient distributions, whether it was Gentoo Linux, Arch Linux, Manjaro Linux, or some other “creative” distribution: during an update, I noticed it taking a long time, so I looked closer; it wasn’t telling me much, but I decided to KILL it; good thing; it had overwritten two or three of my many distributions on at least as many partitions; whatever distro it was, it was taken off!

Fortunately I always have SEVERAL distributions available, and I usually have AT LEAST one extra physical system; not all of ’em are new and fancy, but for simple stuff and for our fine distribution, most of ’em do just fine! On a couple of my real old relics; MX Linux and antiX are among the few that work; I usually go with antiX because the older ones are pretty slow UNLESS I use antiX; one of them still takes minutes to bring up the network, but once it’s up, it works fine; I think the network card or the system itself is “on it’s last leg”. 😉

Yeah Brian. This was hardware battle. On boot removable which is usb boot. No bootable device found. Double checked on another box. On MX work bench dvd. Got to wallpaper on boot but then screen froze. Only thing that took for starters and I installed and ran.

              https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=6220

which fit on cd. DVD reader was aLSO BEING PICKY.

Being stubborn. Went to the dollar store and bought me a dvdr + disc since none were on my shelf. Finally got antiX 21 full to load up on that dvd and boot.
I hurried through the install afeared hardware issues again. Hence the large swap partition shown in inxi9 and conky. I already fixed that though. It takes a bit for me to throw this in the dumpster.
Wife bought it brand new with Windows Vista on it. Ran like molasses.

I am happy camper now on this unit. Makes a good spare. Posting this on the Dell as Acer needs a rest from that big update/upgrade I did asfter initial install..

I played it safe and said No to using package maintainers version when asked in the root account. Kept the defaults for now. Did not feel like starting over after a all day session.

I’m on my newest and fastest system right now. In order to get antiX here, I had to first find another distribution that would install; eventually I learned that I had to have AT LEAST a 5.16 or later kernel, so I was able to get MX Linux AHS working. Once I did that, I grabbed the modules AND the kernel that worked and put it on the antiX distribution, which I was able to INSTALL, I just wasn’t able to successfully get on the Internet. With the right modules grafted in PLUS at least one newer kernel, I got in; from there I use newer kernels now and I’ve now managed to put openSUSE Tumbleweed, MX Linux AHS, antiX 21 runit full, PCLinuxOS, and siduction on this system, the HP 14.
