About a year ago I created a User Manual for antiX 19, written in my language: Italian, at the same time I translated a simpler and faster document into Italian from English: the antiX 19 Installation Guide.
The Installation Guide is originated as a translation of the anilkagi guide: How to install – Step by step guide to install antiX OS. PCC had translated this document into Portuguese integrating it with various observations and arguments, some further additions had been made by marcelocripe.
In the Italian translation I had added some of the integrations of PCC and Marcelocripe in their Portuguese/Brazilian version of the guide.
I had also found it useful to add several images to the document. The Italian version has changed a lot over time, compared to the original document, because it has been updated to antiX 21 and because I have continued to develop it by reducing some topics, expanding others, adding comments and new topics. It is now quite a different document than anilkagi’s guide.
I thought that this document, hitherto available to Italian users, could also be useful to a more general users, so I translated it into English.
I have only a scholastic knowledge of the English language so I used an automatic translator: Deepl, and I checked everything trying to correct the terms that did not seem translated well. Certainly there are still many inaccuracies, however I believe that this document, even if written in bad English, is understandable and useful.
This guide does not intend to replace the guide of anilkagi and PCC, synthetic and practical, but it can be used to update it or to give ideas for the development of some topics.
I have written a chapter on persistence, with additions taken from the antiX Faq, which I believe can be very useful for new users who need to learn how to use this feature of an antiX live system. It is a chapter full of tips.
There are also interesting tips on mounting partitions and peripherals.
The new antiX 21 installer is also studied and described in detail.I provide a .PDF version and a .ODT version.
Since I don’t think this document is written in good English I ask native English speakers that if they want to read, even just a chapter or topic of the guide, they do it on the .odt version. Finding bad language expressions or mistakes and inaccuracies could correct the wrong sentence “on the fly”. Then the document with the corrections could be sent to my mail (pierluigim77 at gmail point com).
I will use the Meld program to see the words changed from the original document and I will make the correction by sharing the new corrected version.
If you prefer you can attach the correct document in a post on this discussion.Post Scriptum: In the guide there are several links that refer to topics in the antiX User Manual.
The antiX user manual currently exists only in Italian, but I wanted to keep the links corresponding to the Italian version so I translated the antiX-19 manual into English using Deepl.
There are other documents translated from Italian to English using Deepl: the guide to Fluxbox in antiX, to JWM, etc.
Deepl’s translations, if left unchecked, are terrible. Some of these documents have been partially checked, others not at all. The antiX 19 manual document has been checked only in some parts.
Everything will have to be checked and updated to antiX 21 or 22. When the updating and checking work is finished then it will be officially presented in this forum (it will take a long time, my free time is very little).antiX 21 installation and configuration guide in PDF: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ri7hfxngfd12ccv/GuaX-Eng.pdf?dl=0

::I took a quick glance at the document, with a little bit of a closer look at the chapter on persistence. Already from this chapter, I can say that this is the best and most comprehensive text I’ve even seen on the topic, and if the rest of it is as well done, it is amazing. I’m currently working on setting up exactly the kind of portable system that you describe in the persistence chapter, and once I’ve explored all the steps you provide, I can hopefully give some constructive feedback. Thank you so much for the work you’ve done so far!

::I only detected one word in plural form that looked unusual to my eyes but it is very minor indeed and the document is very useful and readable in both PDF and ODT forms; GREAT work!

::Ciao Spartak77,
Grazie mille per questa eccellente sintesi.
Ho notato che ci sono due capitoli 7.5:
7.5 Example of setting persistence on a Live
7.5 Conclusions 😉
E ho notato che a pagina 39 “Disk-manger” invece di “Disk-manager”. 🙂Complimenti ancora per una guida molto ben scritta e illustrata.

::Dear Spartak77,
Thank you very much for this fantastic work.
Dear Rantanplan,
Thank you also to you. I know what it is to translate into French and how time consuming it is.
I have a small question for you.
What kind of installation do you have in French? Is it a [fr] or [fr_FR] installation? Can you type the “locale” command in a terminal please?Best regards,
Wallon————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Cher Spartak77,
Merci beaucoup pour ce fantastique travail.
Cher Rantanplan,
Merci aussi à toi. Je sais ce que c’est de traduire en français et combien cela prend du temps.
J’ai une petite question à te poser.
Tu as quoi comme installation en français? Est-ce une installation [fr] ou [fr_FR] ? Peux-tu taper la commande “locale” dans un terminal s’il-te-plaît?Cordialement,
Wallon- This reply was modified 6 months, 3 weeks ago by Wallon.

::Bonjour Wallon,
Merci, mais comme dit plus haut, c’est Spartak qui a bien travaillé.

::Thank you Rantanplan,
Very informative, I have just discovered an anomaly in the French programs by reading your translation of the antiX manual.
I will open a thread in the “Translation” section.

Merci Rantanplan,
Très instructif, je viens de découvrir une anomalie dans les programmes en français en lisant ta traduction du manuel antiX.
Je vais ouvrir un fil de discussions dans la partie “Traduction”.
Cordialement,
