Is one recommended over the other? I’m using kernel 4.19.0-222-antix.1-amd64-smp

Not for me to answer from antiX strategy perspective (anticapitalista would be the one to decide) but from mainstream user perspective: I started antiX 21 as runit from the very beginning and not looking back… Much superior in MHO…
