      @blur13,

I have st with the necessary patches to conform to antix-dwm look and feel at 8.7 M.

After adding the scrollback patch, st is at 14 M.

      Acceptable?

        Update on my testing…

After days of research and trying, I now have antiX booting at 1600×900 on my Alienware M15x laptop using Nouveau driver.
In https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/can-antix-use-nouveau-driver/ @xecure posted about placing this in the boot parameters:

        xorg=nouveau nouveau.modeset=1

When I booted I noticed much smaller font on the terminal, which was a great sign.
        Then I ran these commands:

        sudo Xorg -configure
        sudo cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
        startx

Running lxrandr confirmed that the system is running at Resolution: 1600×900 Refresh Rate: 59.98
        Feeling so good!!!

I don’t know what each provides, but sakura and lxterminal are nice, light and have typical features like scrollback

If I may jump in to this interesting thread:
I have been running DWM for some time, although nothing fancy like this…
In terms of terminal choice I do like ST, although for very simple tasks. My main terminal choice used to be ROXterm but later switched to a slimmer one, namely RXVT (URXVT), which appears to me as capable as ROXTerm but much smaller memory footprint. It does not beat ST in that respect though…
As RXVT (already included in antiX) has not been mentioned in this thread, I think, I wonder whether there is some reason it was excluded from this evaluation…

          @ andyprough:
Thanks again for introducing me to DWM one and half years ago…

There is no reason for rxvt, roxterm, sakura, and lxterminal to be excluded. The selection of st is simply based that I am more familiar with it than the alternatives.

Part of me wants to say “bring it on! give me all your fav terminals” and I will configure them to fit with the general feel and appearance of antix-dwm. Then common sense steps-in and say’s “knock it off. you don’t have the time.” 🙂

There is nothing to stop folks in installing their preferred terminal and using it. In fact, if the terminal supports Xresources, it should inherit antix-dwm nord theme. It won’t (shouldn’t) break anything. However, kitty and later st will be integral to the one or more of the rofi menus. For example, the Toolbox menu which is my take on antiX’s Control Centre. If you just want to use rofi’s drun and cli for command execution and don’t care about the toolbox menu and some applications floating by default, then it will not have any negative impact to uninstall kitty or delete st. Not tested, but it shouldn’t.

Keep asking questions and giving me feedback.

Congratulations on correcting the display. I’ve not ran into that particular issue myself.

Thank you… I must say it is impressive how you further enhance ST with patches to provide scrollback, etc… With those patches ST still seems to have smaller memory footprint than any other terminals…

                  Yes, 14 M is great!

Maybe you could upload your config.h (and ~/.Xdefaults or ~/.Xresources if thats where you set the theme/colors ) and I’ll give it a spin. I assume its the latest version (0.9)?

Thank you. bakkeby, the maintainer of st-flexipatch, deserves acknowledgement for authoring and maintaining the project. He is doing an amazing job.

Yes, it’s based on st version 0.9.

                      cd /usr/local/src/antix-dwm
                      git pull
                      cp file/skel/.Xresources ~/
                      sudo cp file/bin/toolbox.sh /usr/local/bin/
                      sudo /build/git-st.sh
                      sudo /file/bin/conf-st.sh /usr/local/bin/
                      sudo conf-st.sh /usr/local/src/st-flexipatch

The above is from memory, so I apologize if I mangled it. Let me know. I do know that I am missing an item in conf-st.sh to set the default terminal size when floating. Give me a few hours and I’ll get conf-st.sh updated between meetings.

Also, I will most likely be uploading a new version this weekend. It takes me about an hour with shell scripts to take a vanilla antix-core and complete all the modifications. All the hours and hours of work is done upfront with the authoring and testing of the scripts.

                      Update:
kitty has been replaced with st for Toolbox menu (mod+ctrl+p). Updated instructions above to include copying toolbox.sh.

@blur13, do you mind testing not only st but the Toolbox menu? I’ve done a smoketest and it seems fine. Also, do you feel the Toolbox useful? It was a lot of work but no idea if folks will even use it. Thank you!

@blur13, added a script to remove remaining dwm references to kitty.

                        cd /usr/local/src/antix-dwm
                        sudo git pull
                        sudo cp file/bin/conf-dwm-rmkitty.sh /usr/local/bin/
                        sudo conf-dwm-rmkitty.sh /usr/local/src/dwm-flexipatch

This script can be ran after ISO/USB installation to replace kitty with st in dwm’s config.h for mod+shift+return and scratchpads.

I am going to consider this task, providing a lightweight terminal option, as complete unless you report issues.

I have a couple other items on my “Hit List” then I’ll create a new ISO.

Seems like a good solution for terminals.

Regarding Ceni vs cmst. I’ve gotten ceni to work and its fine if only connecting to the same wifi all the time. It will autoconnect at startup. If the network is different then ceni has to be run again with the new network credentials. When moving back to the old wifi the same procedure has to be done again, ie the networks are not saved. Cmst recognizes known networks at startup and autoconnects.

At least that is my experience.

Added cmst to my “Hit List” for next release. I’ve no idea what it is entails to switch but.. it is adventure!

Happens with iotop and btop. Updated st font from Source Code Pro to Nerd fonts and Ubuntu Mono but no change. Does not happen with xterm nor kitty.
