      Monitor is 920×1080 enough it’s uncomfortable 1440×900

Install from AntiX-CC said Uh oh.))
      … like this

      root@zz:~# nvidia-detect-mx

Uh oh. Your card is not supported by any driver version up to 460.73.01.
A newer driver may add support for your card.
Newer driver releases may be available in the MX testing repository or jessie-backports.

      Then I did that.

      root@zz:~# apt install nvidia-detect
      ...
      root@zz:~# nvidia-detect

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2)
Your card is only supported by the 340 legacy drivers series, which is only available up to buster.

But xorg.conf looks like empty and with this cfg1 and flags like –nvidia-xinerama-info
      And, as I might, –mode=1440×900 or –mode-list=”1920×1080 1440×900 1368×768 1280×800 1280×720″

After rebooting font & locale in the Ctrl+Alt+F2 Teminal got better …

it is not 1280×800 or 1368×768.
… 1440×900 is good for me, but and it is not runs as default mode.

Before I didn’t know what to do with the excess
      Now I wouldn’t be so upset…

Does anyone have a working file made in the normal way?)
I would like to see … preferably with a screen resolution changed by default

        started from scratch (:

        I remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf
        And add file
        /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/driver-nvidia.conf

        Section "Device"
            Identifier "Device0"
            Driver "nvidia"
            VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
        EndSection

for now continue to use arandr
Terminal by Ctrl+Alt+F2 became normal too)
I don’t understand anymore, is there a difference between the changes, whether the resolution is changed immediately or after

It’s taking too long times … over time it slowly overgrows by itself 🙂

          Hi user_x,
we all do our best to help but please note that not many persons here on forum will use the
340 legacy drivers. If anyone still does.

NVIDIA support comes from upstream Debian so you may find more help on their forum, or even on ubuntu
forums. buntu is based on debian sid. As far as I am aware the 340 Driver is no longer supported although
there is a version in sid. It has been abandoned by NVIDIA, same goes for supporting many other older cards.

Your card is only supported by the 340 legacy drivers series,

I had made a few attempts to make nVidia 340 driver work on antiX 21 (actually antiX 22 beta, on my two laptops Thinkpad T410 with nVidia chip NVS3100. I was successful after I was patient enough to follow procedure. The 340 driver worked fine on these laptops in the native screen resolution of 1440×900.
Due to running antiX Live on a variety of laptops, with or with no nVidia chips I eventually decided to not use nVidia driver for the reason that once installed, such antiX Live USB did not boot correctly on non-nVidia laptops. I had to fall back to Nouveau driver, which is slower.
If you are working on one computer with nVidia chip then you would not have such issue.
I remember we had a few members in this forum (unfortunately no longer) who were successful in running nVidia 340 also…

Maybe I have an old config in a backup, will try and find it this evening.
I ran the 340 driver until a few months ago.
Problem is that nvidia drivers are frequently broken by changes in other
              packages.

Picked up a newer passive cooled card cheaply so now on Tesla 470 driver.
I had issues with that driver getting broken due a non existing dependancy
              too, it is now pinned.

On my thinkpad I put up with lesser performance and screen tearing with open
driver for the same reasons as olstyn.

It’s hard for me to describe, but did you understand 🙂

Looks to me overall that you are quite knowledgeable in technical intricacies, so if you manage to make this 340 driver work correctly you will help other users with the solution to these problems…
                  Good luck and regards…

tried with whit DKMS is Off & 32-bit somewhat & autosetting with nvidia-xconfig.
                    It was done.
…. nvidia-xconfig exactly the same something can not to do.
                    xorg.conf was like empty.

After reboot fonts became very small
… just like in those distant times, when there was no doubt about the performance of the driver…

But besides this, I’m interested in how critical it is that the screen does not flash when loading, after which the font becomes small.
Sometime in the near future I will try to repeat the experiment on a clean system. 🙂

                          i386 experience.

                          First I installed nvidia-settings

                          $ LANG=c apt list nvidia-settings*
                          Listing... Done
                          nvidia-settings-legacy-390xx/stable,now 390.144-1 i386 [installed]

It’s uninstalls official nvidia-driver? if has installed. I have no

                          Then installed nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver
nvidia-settings from menu launches, but 390xx driver is missing.

Then, after several attempts, I did that
                          update-glx --config nvidia
                          and selected 340xx.
It itself added files to /etc/modprobe.d/ and /etc/modules-load.d
                          I think that’s all. 🙂

But, after it all, In the menu missing launcher for nvidia-settings
And it’s not in dirs in $PATH either
                          I run it like this
                          gksu /usr/lib/nvidia/legacy-390xx/nvidia-settings &
in terminals, or anyhow from menu->execute?…

it would be nice to make a symbolic link anywhere in $PATH … but i’m lazy)
And yes. In the menu exists Alternative Configurator
… I don’t know how to use it yet.)

After a long search,) by turning off various settings, I must have found the right button 🙂
                            Perhaps this

                            # Video output module (string)
                            vout=vdpau_display

                            Huh…
it remains only to understand where the button is on mpv ))
In it, with, mpv-playlistmanager, TV channels are more convenient to switch.

in other words: Nothing to complain about 🙂 tv-movie on screensot hidden

I couldn’t get it to work with openGL. …Tried to install everything.
                              The solution is this.
                              Without anything debs.

                              Ctrl + Alt + F1
                              apt install libopengl-dev
                              apt install libopengl0 libc6-dev
                              service slimski stop

Then to launch NV..340,108.run, from those.
If noveau loaded, it adds to blacklist and need reboot.
And I try with arguments, lake this

                              /home/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-340.108.run --keep --target /home/build-nv -a \
                               --log-file-name=/home/log-nv --no-nvidia-modprobe --no-rpms --no-backup \
                               --disable-nouveau --run-nvidia-xconfig --dkms --install-vdpau-wrapper

But not seem any effect on it.
                              rm -rf /home/build-nv
                              And again
                              reboot
nvidia-settings there not in the Menu, but exists in /usr/bin
I was a little dumb then, on that attempt )

dont worry about poor english, very grateful for the detailed and very interesting
thread as well as your perseverance.
Will try to follow with old laptop NVidia graphics sometime soon.

With regard to VLC, depending on your usage case, please try mpv, with a config from subluminal
the performance is vastly superior whenever I compare.
You can use search term subluminal to find the relevant forum posts.

For youtube ytfzf is very lightweight and efficient tool. Make a bash alias yt for simple starting.
It uses MPV as standard player in conjunction with ytdl, the youtube downloader.

Please do read the docs, the tool can do way more than simple looks suggests.
