::Hi user_x,
we all do our best to help but please note that not many persons here on forum will use the
340 legacy drivers. If anyone still does.NVIDIA support comes from upstream Debian so you may find more help on their forum, or even on ubuntu
forums. buntu is based on debian sid. As far as I am aware the 340 Driver is no longer supported although
there is a version in sid. It has been abandoned by NVIDIA, same goes for supporting many other older cards.October 25, 2022 at 10:11 pm #91517Memberolsztyn
::Your card is only supported by the 340 legacy drivers series,
I had made a few attempts to make nVidia 340 driver work on antiX 21 (actually antiX 22 beta, on my two laptops Thinkpad T410 with nVidia chip NVS3100. I was successful after I was patient enough to follow procedure. The 340 driver worked fine on these laptops in the native screen resolution of 1440×900.
Due to running antiX Live on a variety of laptops, with or with no nVidia chips I eventually decided to not use nVidia driver for the reason that once installed, such antiX Live USB did not boot correctly on non-nVidia laptops. I had to fall back to Nouveau driver, which is slower.
If you are working on one computer with nVidia chip then you would not have such issue.
I remember we had a few members in this forum (unfortunately no longer) who were successful in running nVidia 340 also…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::Maybe I have an old config in a backup, will try and find it this evening.
I ran the 340 driver until a few months ago.
Problem is that nvidia drivers are frequently broken by changes in other
packages.Picked up a newer passive cooled card cheaply so now on Tesla 470 driver.
I had issues with that driver getting broken due a non existing dependancy
too, it is now pinned. On my thinkpad I put up with lesser performance and screen tearing with open
driver for the same reasons as olstyn.October 26, 2022 at 11:30 am #91541Memberuser_x

I think also libnvidia-legacy-340xx-cfg1 somehow whith nvidia-xconfig mismatched… presumablyLooks to me overall that you are quite knowledgeable in technical intricacies, so if you manage to make this 340 driver work correctly you will help other users with the solution to these problems…

dont worry about poor english, very grateful for the detailed and very interesting
thread as well as your perseverance.
Will try to follow with old laptop NVidia graphics sometime soon. With regard to VLC, depending on your usage case, please try mpv, with a config from subluminal
the performance is vastly superior whenever I compare.
You can use search term subluminal to find the relevant forum posts. For youtube ytfzf is very lightweight and efficient tool. Make a bash alias yt for simple starting.
It uses MPV as standard player in conjunction with ytdl, the youtube downloader. Please do read the docs, the tool can do way more than simple looks suggests.
