::But did not work if the share name has a space (ex: “my share”)
@anticapitalista- sorry for the off topic post.
Nice! You caught a bug, thanks!
…Hello PPC,
No the bug is not fixed, and in the case of a share name with a space (the default name share from my Box), I needed to change and remove the yad “–fixed” option here , and the name of the share is truncated until the space name:.#Window that allows user to select the share to connect to: # selectedshare=$(yad --no-buttons --window-icon="/usr/share/icons/numix-square-antix/48x48/places/gnome-mime-x-directory-smb-share.png" --title="antiX-shares" --width=250 --height=250 --fixed --center --separator=" " --list --column="" < /tmp/result) selectedshare=$(yad --no-buttons --window-icon="/usr/share/icons/numix-square-antix/48x48/places/gnome-mime-x-directory-smb-share.png" --title="antiX-shares" --width=350 --height=250 --center --separator=" " --list --column="" < /tmp/result)Edit: modified to work with 1 space (but not 2 spaces) … changed:

Rantanplan, about that, I think you can be carefree. Please read what the anticapitalista wrote about his views and intentions regarding antiX 21 on December 1, 2020. I recommend that you read the entire thread for proper context.

::marcelocripe,
thank you for this precision.
I guess that anticapitalista is concerned about proposing solutions in favor of the most humble.
Besides, my comment was of general scope and not directed against anticapitalista whom I respect or someone else.
I think that one can express one’s thoughts as long as one does not hurt or disrespect anyone.
If you think that my contributions are unwelcome, you can delete them: I will not be angry or offended. 🙂

::The “antix-goodies” and other similar packages that contain more than one application program in the same package, in my opinion, are more work for the developers and the packager.
Let’s imagine the following situations:
– The “X” program has been updated and the other programs have not been updated, a new package will be created just to update the “X” program and the other programs not updated in this package will be included.
– A user wants program “Z” which is in the “antix-goodies” package and will receive other programs that he does not want because there are several different programs in the same package. In my opinion, each program should have its own .deb package and we shouldn’t have several programs in the same package. Otherwise we will be copying SystemD which opposes the KISS philosophy (“Keep it simple, stupid!”) – I had to research the term in American English language to post here.
I hope my example is understandable and doesn’t get lost in automatic translation.
If the anticapitalist sends the .pot file of “debinstaller-antix” to Transifex from antiX (official), I will be happy to copy my pt-BR translations from Debinstaller to Transifex and the program will benefit from the translations of several translators volunteers.
– – – – –
O “antix-goodies” e outros pacotes semelhantes que contenham mais de um programa aplicativo em um mesmo pacote, na minha opnião são um trabalho a mais para os desenvolvedores e para o empacotador.
Vamos imaginar as seguinte situações:

I had a feeling over the past year this was the case given the health issues; nevertheless those of us who have been around a while recognize the significant contribution and expertise shared while skidoo was with us.
Thank you for sharing and to those who remain I hope that a few more people will be able to make contributions like skidoo and Xecure during their time with this community.
To all of you here, thank you for your participation.

::The “antix-goodies” and other similar packages that contain more than one application program in the same package, in my opinion, are more work
Because this is directed related to antix’s development, I’ll answer that here, instead of talking directly to Marcelo. I’m not part of the antiX’s Dev team, so, by no means my word is “law”, it’s my opinion only:
Packing several apps together in one single package is usually a bad idead – if you change one app, you have to change the entire package. But in the case of “goodies” packages, they are meant to group several usefull/important scripts together- in a tiny (or not so tiny) package. This is helpfull in many ways- because “goodies” are installed by default in the “full” version of our OS, if anticapitalista wants to make sure an new useful/important script is made available to all users, when they update their system, it’s a good idea to add that script to a “goodies” package- because it will be automaticly installed, without the need for users to manually install that individual package, just by updating antiX itself.
Example: if you check the current version of antix-goodies, it includes important scripts, like alsa-set-default-card, android-device-usb-connect (that seems to need to rewrite), unplugdrive.sh, etc, that were made available to ALL antix full users because they were included in the “goodies” package- that’s the way anticapitalista choose to made them available, out of the box, as soon as users update their systems.
( I used the same reasoning with the FT10 package – it includes everything I thought should be included, without having to create package, after package, after package… And the end user only has to install a single .deb file! As you can see, sometimes, it’s easier for everyone to pack several applications/scripts in one single “package”- that’s why I suggested that a general porpouse app, like a GUI to install off line deb packages could be included in the “goodies” package. If I create a new package just for it, the only way that I see (there can be others, of course) for users to have that application available is installing it using apt/synaptic/Package Installer.)
It’s up to anticapitalista to decide if it should be made available under antiX and in which way. We can only offer suggestions!
EDIT: I just read about Skidoo 🙁
I suspected as much, but hoped for the best. He tought me to think out side the box, and helped me develop the “Set time and date” GUI- I sometimes had to read and reread his posts, to get his sense of humor, that was sometimes, even more twisted and acidic than mine.
Sad day for me, and I never even met him in person 🙁I hope Xecure is still around, a more “secure” person, not so easily ratled when something goes wrong. I prefer to imagine Xecure is somewhere, not needing to use antiX on old devices because his resilenciency and professionalism got him a very well paid job, and he’s using very powerful computers, coding away, or doing whatever makes him happy! I miss you…

::Regarding the discussion about toolbars and what gets included by default, my suspicion here is that this is, and will likely continue to be a balancing act between providing enough useful applications by default (in a light configuration) and by making a few different setups for different purposes. All of this is dependent on available resources – the people and the concern for making old equipment useful as long as possible.
My bias in this matter is to keep things small and light, perhaps even “super light” in at least one version, and if one or two people can assist in providing either tools or an additional image that is still efficient, but provides some of the “extras” suggested, that would be nice; still, priority one is probably the leanest system we can create with the kernels and software that continues to be supported (plus any that the team can somehow continue to support after standard support ends). Remember this is a very small development team and ultimately anticapitalista is the one who decides what is included by default.
I think over the past year or two we’ve done very well by having the main antiX distribution extremely lean, and then individuals have contributed ideas which other members can adopt or update to suit their needs. I’ve made my own stuff for a long time and sometimes I share ideas, but I don’t have a lot of time to write or support code, so I contribute with ideas, moderation, and encourage others to do whatever they do best; when we each add our small contributions, time and experience has shown that it adds up nicely to produce a very effective distribution and a helpful community.

::* Ship with 2 kernels on full editions
– 4.19 since 4.9 will be unsupported after Jan 2023
– 6 series kernel – rumours have it that 6.1 will have long-term supportFor early approximation of antiX 23 I am trying to build an approximation of the anticipated antiX 23 version per anticapitalista’s specification as outlined in the first post.
Initially I am using kernel 6.0/4.19 combination until 6.1 becomes available, but my initial memory and CPU measurements appear not too great for kernel 6.0. Hopefully these will be more optimized with 6.1 and especially with anticapitalista’s tweaks.Could anyone please suggest where to get kernel 6.1 RC5, so I have a better approximation of my version of alpha antiX 23 in the interim? The production release of kernel 6.1 is expected on Dec. 4, if not postponed by a week…

::Hi PPC, right on preferred applications, just checked it works ok and is understandable, only problem might getting users
set what they want. I always have Terminal in the toolbar. for youtube yt calls ytfzf, upd for sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade@rantanplan, we are suggesting to improve usability while improving appearance especialy for new users. Bloat is a claim often made by
so called reviewers who take 10 minutes of usage then look look in the menu and claim many useless applications are included without even
figuring out what they are for and why they are included. as PPC posted, we are not wanting to add many applications or use a lot more
hardware rescources. You would probably call my setups bloated, I have several browsers, Gimp, XnView, Master Pdf Editor, Developer tools so I can on occasion
compile an application. If instructions are clear enough that is. I autostart Claws Mail, it downloads fresh mails when I login. Claws is
on virtual desktop 1, Palemoon opens on 2. LO calc and writer are assigned and on start show on desktops 3 and 4, Torbrowser to 5.
All these applications start at a given size and position. The overhead after start is acceptable on any machine with 2GB Ram.The setup does run stable and fast enough on dump dived core 2 duo devices or my EEPC clamshell edition. All with SSD or running live from
good usb sticks.
For older or Ram strapped devices I would work differently and also setup zram.- This reply was modified 5 months, 2 weeks ago by ModdIt.

::When you ask for suggestions, you will get responses from those that want changes. You wont hear from those that think antiX is close to perfection and no changes are needed. So its easy to get the impression that a lot of changes are wanted, simply due to the inherent bias in response incentive. When I first installed antiX I really liked the “lean and mean” minimalist approach, it got me hooked. I installed it on all my computers, even the modern ones. If it had been a feature complete, hold my hands, “I assume you cant find out for yourself”, copy of windows/MacOS, I would have moved on. There is a package installer. All the extras could be put there and installed by those that want it.
I appreciate all the work people put into custom scripts, suggestions for programs, etc but there is a logical fallacy in the leap from “this is something I want” to “this is something EVERYONE wants”. Who knows, I might be committing that same fallacy right now.
