      @PPC – antiX-23 will ship with tray-cli so can you send me your modified zzzfm session file?
      I’d like it to have bookmatks as well.
      Thanks

      Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

      antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

        I would like EXFAT partition support… today adding an ISO to Ventoy EXFAT partition is not easy.
        But if i use pcmanfm it just works.

        Sorry for my spaghetti english, i'm italian.

          Nice (I assume you mean trash-cli, right?)
          I’m sending you my zzzfm session file, but you would probably have some problems with it:
          – it includes several entries, used in FT10 (like Accessing the Cloud and Network Shared folders) and some customization – like generating and using scripts to easily toggle between big and small icons, etc…
          – it’s localized in pt-pt, because the way the script that configures zzzfm in FT10 automatically localizes the Bookmarks, from the folder names
          – I’m attaching the script that generates zzzfm’s config file (it’s part of FT10’s package). To generate localized “Trash can” contextual menu entries, it requires the respective localization files

          Configuring zzzfm is a process ugly as sin, because any new entry that we generate in the config file has to identify the last entry before that new one- I had to use work arounds, so the script knows where it should start inserting new entries in the config file. I know of no other way to automatize adding stuff to zzzfm’s config file.
          I hope you can do something from this. IF not, please contact me, either here, or via pm or e-mail, I’ll try to help out the best I can.

          P.

            MX has Librewolf in its PackageInstaller, and I would recommend adding it to the antiX PackageInstaller as well and just using the MX installer script, which works well.

              I would also suggest, following andy’s post – if possible, to package and make available, in Package Installer the browsers compiled for 32bits and made available in the thread about browsers – computers are increasingly being used just as “bootloaders” for web browsers, since most of what we do is on-line. So, the more browsers there are available, specially for old, hard to support 32bits machines, the better.

              Also, adding the “drawing” package, compiled by BobC to Package Installer could be a nice, lighter alternative to GIMP (that is both too resource intensive for many computers and hard to use, to most humans on earth)

                @PPC: Regarding the creation of another antiX Full implementation, are you proposing to be the primary developer/project leader of that proposal, or do you have someone in mind (combo of you and BobC?)

                I like the idea, but I also think it’s a bit much to ask of the current development team. Even with the builds we have it has to be quite a challenge to get them all ready in a timely manner, so I think some additional resources will be needed. If you do get a team, I’d be happy to be part of the testing process, but unless it’s a simple re-spin, in spite of retirement, I don’t have the resources or consistent availability to promise development resources; testing resources at various cycle intervals, Alpha, Beta, Release Candidate, Release, would be possible for me though.

                  Two things I’d like to see for antiX 23 so I don’t have to manually put together a working release for my newer system by copying things from elsewhere would be:

                  1) an “optional” new Version 6+ antiX kernel.
                  2) full support for the Realtek rtw89_8852ae wireless driver.

                  While I got it working, I had to copy both a newer kernel (non-antiX) from Debian, Liquorix, or xanmod1, and I also found the Realtek driver for the rt/rtw 89 series to be missing a couple of files and I also had to get matching /lib module support for all of this. I am probably not the only one around the world who has either newer hardware, various Realtek devices, or both, so these things will benefit others in addition to me.

                  It is, as I said, possible to retrofit these things, but I can’t participate in the testing process and have to repeatedly add these things, so while not absolutely mandatory, they sure would help me to be able to be an active test participant on both older and newer equipment.

                    @PPC – thanks for the zzzfm files. I have managed to edit them for a new default zzzFM look.

                    I have been playing with zzzFM today. (I don’t use it at all TBH since I am so accustomed to using rox)
                    A couple of things that seem ‘mising’ now I have added trash-cli.
                    I’m sure someone can point towards a ‘fix’

                    Once a file is sent to Trash, a Restore option by right-clicking on that file or files or even folders would be nice rather than using the Copy/Remove option.
                    Another good idea would be to have an Empty Trash option.

                    I say this as someone new to having Trash available. I have never used it in rox since it does not exist.
                    Once users see that it exists, they probably want/need/expect the above ie Restore/Empty options.

                    It is probably quite easy to create some scripts for this to work in rox as well.

                    Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                      Hello everyone, you are idols! I am a farmer-gardener cook, I am an anti-fascist, I am a standard user, I have a small son, I live that political economic mess that is widespread in the Western world with its crazy price increases.
                      I know how to install your ISO and change a couple of settings to make it usable in most of the computers of those around me, I use antix from version 19, I use antiX with three users on netbook atom+2gb+swap+ssd (2008) and work with MX on celeron+1,33gb+swap+ssd (2013). I have something to say, related to antiX23_full:
                      – zzz-icewm at startup whit zzzfm as default whit all the magic possible (or just icewm whit zzzfm as default + magic), less themes for icewm is good (a quick link to pling in control center?)
                      – Menù: reduce primary tree (use more branch), move select application at bottom, relegate in applications>antix>”antix-live” what could stay there (or remove it completely from view), keep kill-app (add in description a shortcut for that)
                      – Toolbar: make a shortcut to navigate it! Make it simple to know that. (Make it changeable/rearrangeable on control center – seems more reasonable)
                      – Package installer: Telegram, Parental Control (in some form or another), Games (peoples likes use old hardware for emulation and Marcelocripe have done some work on it), Mx-cleanup-clone (maybe in control center), Poedit 3.1 or higher
                      – make a massive use of control center, i love to use it!
                      – Search-bar: make it costumisable! (Transifex needed, Google noooooo, maybe tonvid, who knows what else)
                      – ytfzf doesn’t work for me whit thumbnail and all the functions I can see online: that’s personal but if it can be implemented that would be great!

                      I don’t mind a response specific to my message cause everything I’ve said comes whit no clue how to do it…
                      … it’s just a list of suggestions from one “bare minimum” user whit “bare minimum” knowledge [even if, here on antixforum, “bare minimum” seem more suitable for the pro users, you know what I mean]
                      What I’ve said remains related to full edition, and where possible can be implemented in other wm. Are they all really needed in ISO? I don’t know. Maybe some can go on packages installer to lighting the download size? Don’t worry about that one!

                      Just yesterday I’ve fired up a sony vaio pcg-f804 (2004) on 512mb whit live CD of antiX-21_base set it on zzz-icewm for something like 100mb. (Old win Xp machine of my father in the hand of my brother) It’s feasible! Realistically, who want more than that whit less ram (surely) is capable to do that gui or not gui. If the focus (for development and community) is bring more user here reviving theirs old machines my literal suggestion is: point to 80-90% of the machines that 80-90% of possibile new comers can have (and in 80-90% of the cases upgrade esaily/cheaply, like a stick of old ram a cheap ssd). That should guide the development of antiX23_full.

                        @anticapitalista – I attach the very first version of a fully localizable script to manage the Trash Can:
                        – It’s main screen tell the user how much space the Trash Can is using and how much free space there’s in the partition with the /home folder
                        – users can empty the Trash by clicking a button (boy, that would be nice, in the real world!)
                        – users can click a button and select, from a list provided in the terminal, the file they want to undelete, just by typing it’s number on the list. The window it self recommends that users can just drag and drop files and folders from the Trash Can to anywhere they want them to be restored (not necessarily their place of origin).

                        Note: there should be a way to add a contextual menu entry, that only appears if the user is in the Trash folder, and copy the selected file/folder. It’s easy to copy it to the /home folder. But moving it back to it’s original place would imply parsing the file that lists trash can entries, and I’ve never tried that.
                        As is, the script is a nice way to get info on the space the Trash takes, to empty it, but, at least for now, it does not provide a GUI for undeleting files that I think most users expect – it’s just a work around, a way to provide this basic funtionality to the end user, that does not want to type commands on the terminal…

                        Since I almost never use Rox I have no idea how to implement trash-cli on it- maybe John, from LegacyOS can chip in?

                        @ Dear “The Mas” – My life is too uncertain right now, for me to be responsable for a version of antiX right now. I’m just trying to “ship” the new version of FT10, with some improvements and better defaults. But, Ft10 is just a package – once installed and enabled it’s very easy to manage. BobC is informed on how I suggest an antiX Iso with FT10 to be created, but I don’t know if he wants to be responsable for an antiX version…

                        Edit:
                        @anticapitalista: after all, it was not that difficult the create a script to automate undeleting a file. How to test this: create a file called “test_file” and then send it to the trash.
                        Run this commands, and now the file should be copied (note, for safety reasons I choose cp, not mv) to it’s original place:

                        selection0="$HOME/.local/share/Trash/files/test_file"
                        selection=$(basename $selection0)
                        extension=".trashinfo"
                        origin_of_selected_file0=$HOME/.local/share/Trash/files/$selection
                        data_about_selected_file0=$HOME/.local/share/Trash/info/$selection$extension
                        original_path_of_file=$(cat $data_about_selected_file0 | grep "Path=" |cut -c6-)
                        cp $selection0 $original_path_of_file

                        Now all that I have to do is to adapt this script, so it runs from a contextual “Restore” menu, on zzzfm. Easier said than done…

                          Hello Daddy Libre.

                          It’s good to meet you here in this thread.

                          What I’ve said remains related to full edition, and where possible can be implemented in other wm. Are they all really needed in ISO? I don’t know.

                          When I started with antiX I also thought “why so many combinations of window managers?”. But after some time testing each one of them and on different computers, I can confidently say that each one has its importance and usefulness. On computers with up to 1 GB of RAM, the “Minimal” options are the best, where “Minimal Fluxbox” and “Minimal JWM” compete for greater speed, “Minimal IceWM” is a little behind. For some reason I don’t know what it is, it has happened that “Minimal JWM” and “Minimal IceWM” respond better than “Minimal Fluxbox” on a specific computer. I don’t know what the “magic trick” is behind the “Minimal” options, but I know they are needed on computers with 32-bit processors and up to 1 GB of RAM. The other window manager combo options that have just the name IceWM, JWM and Fluxbox do not allow desktop icons as well as the “Minimal” options. The other options that have “zzz” at the beginning of the name have zzzFM as the default file manager and allow desktop icons. The other options that have “rox” at the beginning of the name have ROX-Filer as the default file manager and allow icons on the desktop. Now have you managed to understand the importance and usefulness of so many options?

                          Games (peoples likes use old hardware for emulation and Marcelocripe have done some work on it)

                          Thanks for mentioning the games part, it would be interesting if anticapitalista could make available the packages that are in my GitLab or in archive.org in the antiX repository, both in the Package Installer and in Synaptic. This would greatly facilitate the installation of these programs without the need for the Terminal. That’s why I expect Debinstaller to make it into antiX 23 to make installing .deb packages easier, as it will make it into MX Linux.

                          – – – – –

                          Olá Daddy Libre.

                          É bom encontrar você aqui neste tópico.

                          What I’ve said remains related to full edition, and where possible can be implemented in other wm. Are they all really needed in ISO? I don’t know.

                          Quando eu comecei no antiX eu também pensava assim “para que tantas combinações dos gerenciadores de janelas?”. Mas depois de algum tempo testando cada um deles e em computadores diferentes, eu posso dizer com tranquilidade que cada um possui a sua importância e utilidade. Em computadores com até 1 GB de memória RAM as opções “Minimal” são as melhores, onde o “Minimal Fluxbox” e o “Minimal JWM” disputam em maior velocidade, o “Minimal IceWM” fica um pouco atrás. Por algum motivo que eu não sei qual é, já ocorreu do “Minimal JWM”e do “Minimal IceWM” responderem melhor do que o “Minimal Fluxbox” em um computador específico. Eu não sei qual é o “truque de mágica” por trás das opções “Minimal”, mas eu sei que são necessários em computadores com processadores de 32 bits e com até 1 GB de memória RAM. As outras opções de combinações dos gerenciadores de janelas que possuem apenas o nome IceWM, JWM e Fluxbox não permitem os ícones na área de trabalho, assim como as opções “Minimal”. As outras opções que possuem “zzz” no início do nome possui o zzzFM como o gerenciador de arquivos padrão e permitem os ícones na área de trabalho. As outras opções que possuem “rox” no início do nome possui o ROX-Filer como o gerenciador de arquivos padrão e permitem os ícones na área de trabalho. Agora você conseguiu compreender a importância e utilidade de tantas opções?

                          Games (peoples likes use old hardware for emulation and Marcelocripe have done some work on it)

                          Obrigado por mencionar a parte dos jogos, seria interessante se o anticapitalista pudesse disponibilizar os pacotes que estão no meu GitLab ou no archive.org no repositório do antiX, tanto no Package Installer quanto no Synaptic. Isso facilitaria muito a instalação deste programas sem a necessidade do Terminal. É por isso que eu espero que o Debinstaller entre no antiX 23 para facilitar a instalação de pacotes .deb, já que irá entrar no MX Linux.

                            Hello PPC.

                            I expect the right-click menu to look like this order:

                            Rename F2
                            Move to Trash Delete
                            Permanently Delete Shift+Delete

                            The “Permanently Delete” option is nice to be a little bit apart from the “Rename” option. And the key combination “Shift+Delete” is the same used in Windows and other file managers.

                            – – – – –

                            Olá PPC.

                            Eu espero que o menu do clique do botão direito possa ficar semelhante a esta ordem:

                            Renomear F2
                            Mover para a Lixeira Delete
                            Excluir Permanentemente Shift+Delete

                            A opção “Excluir Permanentemente” é bom ficar um pouco distante da opção “Renomear”. E a combinação de teclas “Shift+Delete” é a mesma utilizada no Windows e em outros gerenciadores de arquivos.

                              I’m sorry to tell you all that I read a post from a friend of skidoo’s and that he passed away. I (and others I’m sure) owe him a lot for all the time and effort he put into teaching people here how to figure things out, and as well for the programs and applications like slimski and zzzfm that we all benefit from.

                              I completely missed this. That is too bad about skidoo, I’ll miss that guy.

                                I have another critical project that I need to put my time into now (before I retire), so until that one is working, I’m not planning to take on any other major projects.

                                I was working on a FT10 respin for antiX 22 a couple months ago, but since learned that the “make changes and remaster” method I was using wasn’t good, so don’t plan to work on it further. I should have setup the ssh key and used a fork, made my changes, and built a new iso from it, but its beyond my knowledge level how to do it that way.

                                A note for anyone thinking about doing an FT10 respin. It is designed to be an add on package, not a starting point, so that means it changes the antiX setups including translations as it installs, so its not as simple as it seems.

                                  Me too, skidoo was a great mentor for me. I am very lucky he took the time to teach us how to investigate and research things in addition to developing.
