I just got a Thinkpad T500 series laptop, I think it’s the 510 but I will check when I get home. I do know that it’s a 2010 model. I was also given an even older Toshiba laptop. Both are in very good condition and I plan to put antiX 23 on both.

This’ll provide two more solid OLD test platforms. I’m anticipating both will work well. The guy I got them from gave them to me. He’s a retired visitor to a Carolina Linux users group.

I actually had a lightweight version of Linux Mint on the Thinkpad, probably both. I already replaced the one with antiX and the Toshiba will be later.

I think it’s even nicer than the X201.
The Toshiba is like a tank but I am looking forward to trying it out too.

One of the first laptops I put Linux on was a Toshiba and the one I got today is a heavy thing by today’s standards and I am looking forward to trying it out again.

Between these two models the manufacturers today could learn a few things. Sure, you might want to have a lighter chassis but you can’t beat their rugged construction.

I do have two solid newer Linux laptops, the HP-14 laptop and an older Dell Inspiron 5558.

I just have tested antiX 23 on my Thinkpad T520, i7, IPS display 1920×1080, nVidia NVS4200M.
antiX 23 works perfectly on this machine as well. Just to mention, I am not using nVidia driver, but graphics performance is excellent. I have not tested on games though. This is my most powerful laptop I have and is my main one for desktop use. I plan to use it for many years to come. Not looking forward to replace with any newer one. Keyboard is legendary. The same as in Thinkpad T410 and X220. I have several spare keyboards for my Thinkpads.
As I remember Thinkpad T510 is very similar to Thinkpad T520, so should work fine with antiX 23. I think you will be happy with your T510…

Just want to add a few other pieces of hardware tested with antiX 23 Beta:
                – Toshiba Satellite A205 – Pentium Duo processor – from 2006
                – Thinkpad Z61P – Core2Duo, 1920×1200 Radeon, from 2006
                – Acer Aspire E1, i3, from 2012
                – HP Pavillion 20 from 2012. All-In-One desktop. Very low end processor. Passmark cpu in 300’s! Works fine on antiX 23 though…But on heavy browsers often hits 100% CPU utilization…

The above laptops and one All-In-One desktop tested fine with antiX 23. No issues noticed.

                    Greetings to everyone!

I intend to check how this Beta 1 behaves on real hardware.
But a couple of weeks have passed since the assembly of the installation image. Is there a way to get a daily build like it’s organized in the Ubuntu project?
Are there any possible release dates for beta 2?

I hope there will be no Beta 2 but a formal release of antiX 23. It is ready for prime time according to my testing on variety of hardware…
Works great with no material issues that I can see. Best antiX ever… Thanks to anticapitalista, the owner of antiX.

My very old sony Vaio from 2010 runs perfecly with this beta1, no issues at all (apart from the very slow web browsing but that’s because the Atom CPU struggles to run Firefox, the OS is incredibly fast).

Also having spotted a browser issue turning up on recent antiX 23 default firefox.
The RDD-Process, belonging to firefox, outpowers one of four CPU kernels completely for hours without returning back to normal, while browser is idling, not playing any media.

PID USER PRI NI VIRT RES SHR S CPU% MEM%▽ TIME+ Command

Have not seen this ever on antiX 22, which also is running firefox in very same version. Not sure what causes this. Single obvious difference is: antiX 22 runs here on 32bit hardware, while antiX 23 is running on 64 bit hardware, so this could be caused by 64 bit as well.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

@olsztyn – did you try both kernels on the hardware you tested?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Yes. Both kernels on all but one. I did not try 6.18 on the HP Pavilion 20 desktop All-In-One, from 2012. The Celeron processor is extremely low end (Passmark in 300’s!) so I did not think it would make sense to run modern kernel. I do not have it handy at the moment so I cannot confirm it would work with the 6.18 kernel, but since the PC is from 2012 I think it would. This expectation is based on the fact that even my laptops from 2006 (Pentium Duo) do work with both kernels just fine.

I don’t understand why I don’t have the same Belgian keyboard on antiX 21/22 and antiX 23.
I have 2 installations of antiX 23 on 2 computers (desktop/laptop). It’s the same on both computers.
I compared the /etc/default/keyboard file of antiX 21/22 and antiX 23. It’s the same script. However, I don’t have the same keyboards!

Is there another file to check?
