      Hello!

Made fresh install on fellow’s Dell notebook. First step was to shrink existing ext4 partition via GParted, then create another one. AntiX installer is really good, I had no problem with custom partitions setup.

Two issues so far: in Control Center -> Repo Manager -> antiX Repos the last entry (Uzbekistan, Tashkent) is selected. Nothing happens when I manually check other mirror and click Apply (popup window asking for confirmation doesn’t appear, but it should do according to HELP). “Select fastest repo for me” doesn’t work either.

Second problem is visible tearing artifacts when playing movie in Celluloid (celluloid/testing,now 0.20-2+b1 amd64 [установлен]). They are most pronounced when whole scene is panned left to right, and it looks as if the screen is divided in to parts (upper/lower). The same movie runs OK in MPV in full screen mode, but if changed to windowed – the same horizontal tearing.

When navigate antiX-forum with Firefox, there is not immediately noticeable horizontal tearing, if dragging page Up/Down with scrollbar…

          Hello INNA_fan,

For antiX23, it seems that only http://repo.antixlinux.com/testing is enabled and other antiX repositories are disabled.
          I’m assuming it’s because it’s a beta version.

          sorry if i’m wrong.

            Dear anticapitalista,

I have done a Debian 12 installation (version test).

For your information. I never managed to do a proper installation of Debian. I never managed to install the Grub with the Debian installer. It is thanks to antiX that I can do a boot repair to get a Debian installation to work.

Why am I talking about this on the antiX forum?

I have confirmation that Debian 12 has changed the layout of the Belgian keyboard.

I put a screenshot of the new layout of the symbols on the keys.

So antiX 23 is not responsible for the changes I observed.

            Best regards,
            Wallon

              Great finding, @Wallon !

Now, please try the key combinations:

              AltGr + B
              AltGr + N
              AltGr + Shift + B
              AltGr + Shift + N
              AltGr + W
              AltGr + X
              AltGr + Shift + W
              AltGr + Shift + X

If I read your screenshot right, these should give you the typographic Quotation in some variants and the typographic Apostrophe (the latter should be AltGr + Shift + N) you have been missing. These are in your screenshot exactly at the same position as on the German keyboard layout (with the exception that » and « have swapped their place to match the French convention of using them „the other way around”).

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

                  Dear Robin,

Here is my screen shot with the keyboard shortcuts.
I used the font “Times” to see the new shapes of the characters.
I read that it was the Wayland project that asked to modify the keyboards during the year 2022 and that this had consequences on the other display servers.
I can’t find the website that mentioned this.
I have not been able to find a list of countries that have been changed.

                  Cordialement,
                  Wallon

The odd screenshot from rgbpaint happens only on one machine. other machines react normally to the rgbpaint -s.
mx alpha rgbpaint -s works in the machine. antiX beta rgbpaint -s works on other machines. antiX sid rgbpaint -s works on a different machine. at fault is only antiX beta on one particular machine (?)
It is not important on rgbpaint screenshot, but one must wonder what else is disturbed by this odd circumstance in the one machine(?)
The machine at fault is updated and trialed both live and installed, with both kernels:

Has anyone tried antiX beta on a two display monitor system? I tried it today and it was confused when moving a window from one screen to the other screen.
edit: trial two display , beta live usb,
                    jwm
drag window from primeleft screen to right screen
sometimes it moves to screen right, other times it thinks it is moving to different workspace on right. sometimes mouse click on screen right desktop the clicking is not detected. Two displays The wallpaper span one picture and the one conky means i am looking at one workspace on left, of the two workspaces.
                    That is jwm.

                        Dear ile,

Yes I tested antiX 23 with 2 screens.

antiX considers the 2 screens as 1 screen.

After a fresh installation, the keyboard shortcuts don’t work well. AntiX will put a window in the middle of the 2 screens. Normally, antiX should put a window in the middle of each screen and this is not possible.
We can’t put a different background on screen 1 and screen 2. It will always be the same wallpaper that will be spread on both screens.
My screen 1 on the left, is my master (main) screen and conky will always be on the second screen which is on the right. This is proof that antiX considers the 2 screens as one screen.

                        a) iceWM does not work well for moving a window from one screen to the other.
Google does not always work for clicking on the forum submenu (Recent Posts).

                        b) Fluxbox works better for moving a window from one screen to the other.
Google does not always work for clicking on the forum submenu (Recent Posts).

                        c) jwm works very well for moving windows from one screen to another.
Google works very well with jwm.

To work with 2 screens, it is absolutely necessary to add keyboard shortcuts using the « Windows » key. To do this, go to the “Tips and Tricks” section of the forum, I have given the keyboard shortcuts for Fluxbox, IceWm and JWM.

Important note! I always do a complete installation and I always install the Nvidia driver. This may change for other users who use an AMD graphics card or an Intel or AMD (gpu / apu) chipset. It’s very sensitive with all those things…

                        Best regards,
                        Wallon

Not sure if this is important.

For me, one of the big differences between alpha1 and beta1 is the number of runit startup services which were enabled. In alpha1, there were a bunch of getty services that were enabled. In beta1, there were only three getty services enabled. With two of them being labeled essential, getty-tty1 and getty-tty2. Getty-tty3 was also enabled, but was not labeled as essential.

I wanted to see if I remove the getty-tty3 service using the runit service manager would this adversely affect peformance.

I removed getty-tty3 service. I don’t see any adverse effects with respect to video or sound or browser performance.

So I trimmed the runit services to just

                          connman
                          dbus
                          getty-tty1
                          getty-tty2
                          seatd
                          slimski
                          udevd

I am happy with performance with just these services enabled.

If you don’t use wireless or prefer to use ceni instead of connman, you can remove both connman and dbus from runit services.
On my laptop with a wired ethernet connection I have these runit services running (antiX-19 upgraded to antiX-22):

                            getty-tty1
                            getty-tty2
                            seatd
                            slim
                            udevd

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

If you don’t use wireless or prefer to use ceni instead of connman, you can remove both connman and dbus from runit services.

Thanks for the tip. I have one system that is using ethernet. I will remove the connman and dbus services on that system.

I am glad I wrote the previous post so I can optimize my system.

I’ve been using only two getty processes for quite a while, though I didn’t trim everything else out.
                                Works fine.

Thank you all for these tips. I am looking forward to any opportunity to simplify and minimize memory footprint…

On my laptop with a wired ethernet connection I have these runit services running (antiX-19 upgraded to antiX-22):

                                  getty-tty1
                                  getty-tty2
                                  seatd
                                  slim
                                  udevd

You are using slim, not slimski after all?
