::With my installation [fr_BE], there is still no trash can on the desktop with zzz-Fluxbox or zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM.
It would be nice if this was directly on the iso because a new user doesn’t know that it exists.April 16, 2023 at 8:28 pm #104837Member

::1) Favorite Applications,
2) Desktop,
3) Other DesktopsOther Desktops: The translation was corrected in the “antiX desktop files” file in the Transifex “antiX-Contribs” project a year ago.
The translation was also corrected in the “desktop-session-menu-window” file in the Transifex “antiX-Contribs” project 6 months ago.
Is it possible to update the translation?April 16, 2023 at 8:30 pm #104838Forum Admin

::Some posters have argued that having Trash on the desktop when running ‘live’ might cause issues which is why antiX-23 is set up to only have the trash icon once installed.

::I do not use antiX-contribs at transifex.
All final translations must appear at antiX-development.

::Dear anticapitalista,
Regarding the trash on the desktop, I always do a full installation of antiX in [fr_BE].
I only use Live keys to do a boot repair.
So, I don’t know why I don’t have the trash on antiX 23 installed.Regarding the translation, I thank you for the reminder.
Kind regards,

Because you installed beta1 which did not offer this feature.
Future versions will.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

True. One by one of our resources will be moved from antiX-contribs to antiX-development. Today antiXscreensshot2 was moved, since it had to be updated anyway from version 1.08d to version 1.08e, so the move was done in one go with the update.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

::Troubled Morning,
got users lost in space, the major update changed standard in plain ICEWM from Rox to ZZZZZZZfm despite saying no
to the config questions.Windoze users may be happy, personaly I find rox much easier to use, same goes for several other users.
Otherwise, the beta is running like a Japanese train, reliable, sane and comfortable.
Great work all involved. My and users sincere thanks to anticapitalista and all others involved.

::I forgot my pendrive, that has antiX 23b1 live at home, so I can’t do anything for now- I want to try to fix the problem with zzzfm buttons to switch views that use keys already used in jwm and fluxbox, and also think about the trashcan details – I spent the last week with my daughter, so, almost 0 time on the computer 🙂
Troubled Morning,
the major update changed standard in plain ICEWM from Rox to ZZZZZZZfm despite saying no
to the config questions.Hum… That’s some of the dangers of using a beta, some defaults may be changed – it was me that suggested that zzzfm should be the default file manager, even if the user is not in a zzz-… desktop. It makes sense, considering all the work that went into zzzfm, and the very large percentage of users (me included) that prefer it over rox. Since I haven’t run an update on the beta for over a week, I can’t say, but I do home that there’s a safe guard and in rox managed desktops, Rox still is the default File Manager (that makes sense to me)- so the change in default FM only affects folks that run window managers without desktop icons (I mean just straight IceWM, Fluxbox and JWM).

::Thank you anticapitalista and team for the massive upgrade of antiX 23…
Just to mention a minor issue, as it seems:
When booting an alien message appears around login stage:
‘Invalid directive at line 1’.
The same message appears multiple times when rebooting or shutting down.Update:
I have identified that the upgraded component responsible for the above alien messages is chrony.
Upgrade yesterday was from version 4.3-2 to version 4.3-2.0antix1. I think the nature of upgrade was implementation of chrony runit service.
Due to this upgrade issue I have upgraded everything except chrony, pending fix.However, my question is: What is the downside of not running chrony service? Network time appears to be synchronized ad-hoc just fine without ntpsec or chrony running. At least for not time-sync critical applications…

In your case I recommend selecting the rox-icewm, rox-jwm or whatever window manager you prefer with the roxfm prefix, then you’ll get what you want.
Those who definitely prefer zzzFM should select their window manager of choice with the zzz prefix.
We have plenty of choices available.
Thank you antiX team for providing the many great alternatives!

::I have been trying out the 6.2 kernel on beta1, even on some of the oldest 64-bit computers that I have. Works very good with the 6.2 kernel even on these oldest computers. Importantly, I have noticed that the 6.2 kernel has incorporated more of the realtek wifi drivers.
Two examples:
Example 1. For a while I have been using the USB wifi that uses the realtek driver rtl8188fu. I bought these cheap on Amazon several years ago for $1.99 USD. They were the cheapest I could find on Amazon at the time. These work OK in windows 7 but terrible in Windows 10 and 11. But I found a linux kernel wifi driver in github for this driver. This driver works very good on antiX 21/22. But the problem is that every time I update kernels, this kernel module has to be built and installed as the new kernel is being installed.
I recently found that the 6.2 kernel has this rtl8188fu driver already built into the rtl8xxxu driver. So I no longer need to build and install this kernel rtl8188fu driver every time I update the kernel.
Example 2: I also own a more expensive realtek wifi dongle that can utilize the high speed 5G wifi in my modem. This wifi dongle uses the rtl8821cu driver. Previously, I had to build and install this driver every time I install and update a newer kernel. But the 6.2 kernel already has this rtl8821cu driver built into it. I no longer have to build and install the rtl8821cu driver during a kernel upgrade.
So, if your hardware allows, consider trying the 6.2 kernel.

::@calciumsodium: I have also tried newer kernels on several computers. While I no longer have any remaining 32-bit system in my personal collection, I do have a couple 64-bit systems in the 2007-2010 range remaining, and they work great with either old or new kernels.
I’ve been using the new 6.1 and 6.2 kernels exclusively on my HP-14 system and it runs them well too. It’ll boot with the 5.10 kernel, but other than booting, it’s useless because it provides no network device support, so I only use 6 series kernels on my newer hardware. My Dell Inspiron 5558 is extremely flexible, it works with nearly everything, except it strangely gets stuck with 5.10 kernels unexpectedly and inconsistently, yet sometimes they work. Because of the issues though I tend to avoid 5.0 for most of my hardware and focus on the others. Before the 4.4 and 4.9 kernels ended their long term support, they worked very well on the Dell too. 4.19 still works well there.
It’s great when some hardware works with either the old or the new! 6.2.10-1-liquorix-amd64 and this entire range has worked well. I have 6.2.11-3-liquorix-amd64 up now and it’s also doing a great job.

::The “Basic IceWM Settings Manager” program window does not adapt to the content of the translated language.
In French, not all lines for the submenus are visible;
1) * Auto Start:
2) * Look and feel:The scrollbars on the left side of the screen and at the bottom of the screen are not visible either. They do not appear automatically. You have to hover over the menus with the mouse to make the scrollbars appear. So you don’t see directly that there may be other lines at the bottom of the window.

::Dear Wallon: I answer you because I’m the original creator of the “Basic IceWM Settings Manager”…
– I think options on the lower part of the window may be off screen on screens with lower resolution, not because of the language used (long content on the buttons can, like it does on your screenshot, make part of the window more to the right seem hidden). To solve this, maximize the window, or, without maximizing, move your mouse pointer over the buttons, and the scroll bars should appear automatically, like they do when you hover the mouse pointer on the left and lower borders of the window (if the screen can’t show all the info, due to low screen resolution).– the format of the window was chosen in order to show the most amount of options, even on my small netboot screen- I figured it would be the lowest resolution most antiX users would have. Unfortunately I can’t please everyone, every time. Someone else may try to adapt the script, so it shows the options on a different way. I thought having all options at once on the screen would make navigation easier (instead of having to navigate tabs), because I remember, when I start using a new GUI I have trouble remembering which tab has the options I want, and I have to cycle trough them all until I find what I need. This way users always know where the intended option is, always on the same place… But, since I kept adding more and more options to the original screen, the window is pretty big, specially with the very large text that the french localization has…
Completely off-topic- I found it strange “on/off” were left untranslated… Yes, most people do know what they mean, but even so, it’s English…
