I need help in finding out which options do not work on antiX-23-alpha since one person checking every option will take hundreds of hours.
      Many hands make light work.

I have already checked these categories, so no need for others to do so.

      Audio
      Browser
      Children
      Desktop Environment
      Development
      Disks
      Docks
      Email
      Filers
      Flash
      Ftp
      Graphics
      Icons

I’m going to be very busy over the next week or so (real life work) so in order to avoid people doing the same, I suggest volunteers post here stating which category(ies) they will check. I will monitor this thread, but not organise the ‘teams’.

      Thanks

        I’m going to check

        Office
        Video
        Kernel

From the category Office the following packages do not install
        – adobe-reader (in the briefly flashing terminal window I think I read something about depency problems)
        – Dictionary
        – Libre-office latest full
        – Libre-office latest main

From the category Video only one package does not install
        – openshot (even though it seems to install from synaptic)

        From the Kernels only the
        – Debian Fallback Kernel 4.19
        does not install

I need help in finding out which options do not work on antiX-23-alpha

The only material issue I encountered was that system-config-printer was not working as I reported close to the end of antiX 23 alpha thread.
Using version 1.5.16-1.0nosystemd1, the latest nosystemd version available in place of 1.5.18-1 Debian version, system-config-printer fails to pop up the config window.
The fix I used was rather simple – remove a some polkit related files (I do not have the exact names at my fingertips at the moment). Removing those items has fixed printing config issues and antiX 23 became fully functional.
No other material issues found on my side.

Thank you. My misunderstanding, read too quickly without paying attention to title…
                  Please disregard my note…

Duplicated one of the development options and tested Atom; it works.
Verified Soft Office installation and basic capabilities.

Each of these were either installed or reinstalled using Package Installer and then tested with simple capabilities.

I need help in finding out which options do not work

                      Hello anticapitalista,
please, could you outline which way this testing is to be done? And which is the proper starting entry in Menu (or command on console) to get the proper package installer started for the testing? Seems there are more than a single package management tool listed in the menus, and also in control center are some others. Not sure whether I’ve got started the one you want to check.
Sorry for my ignorance, but I’ve never used one of them, since I run all package installing and updates on console using apt commands directly always.
                      Many greetings
                      Robin

@Robin – it is the app called Package Installer in the menu (Applications > System)
On the IceWM toolbar it is called Software Installer

Installed and removed the Media Center apps.
When removal was complete, I had to autoremove packages that were not 100% removed; otherwise it did install fine.

I was able to install and uninstall the Messaging Apps; it would be nice if a few people would test one or two of the messaging components; I did not actually TEST them; I simply installed and uninstalled to verify Package Installer; that part works.

it is the app called Package Installer in the menu (Applications > System)

Since not on an English localised antiX system the Name in menu doesn’t help much. But I tried:

                                $ grep -F "Name=Package Installer" /usr/share/applications/*.desktop
                                /usr/share/applications/packageinstaller.desktop:Name=Package Installer

                                $ grep "^Name\[de\]=" /usr/share/applications/packageinstaller.desktop
                                Name[de]=Programmpaket-Installation

Translation must be checked, probably in all languages, to match the expression used in different places of antiX.

On the IceWM toolbar it is called Software Installer

That makes it easily clear, in this place is a single one only, even when it is named differently again in this place.
                                Thanks!

So from what I’ve read here from the other posters, we are supposed to check not merely whether the programs are present in the sections and the translations match, but whether each of them actually installs properly. I suspect we need to check the proper functionality of all programs installed this way? We need to remind of programs which on first glance seemed to come up fine, but only when checking them in full usage it turned out, some important piece was missing. Examples are gaupol or kdenlive, from first glance you wouldn’t guess some important parts of these wont work without additionally installing some non-declared dependencies (which are present on a default true debian system, so the maintainer and most users won’t notice this).

So I guess, the way of testing to be observed here is: Install a program via this package installer, and then check whether the program is lacking of something, by performing a full function check on it, then uninstall it again, also using the package installer, and check whether any unwanted residues remain on the system?

And then, I believe the test must be run from a virgin antiX Live system, not having any other software installed on it, but remastered with all recent updates in it? Otherwise the results may not be significant, some required packages might have been drawn in on the testers system already before, so their lack in an installation from the package installer entry will be concealed.

And finally, I believe this test must be repeated on 32 bit hardware, when 32bit ISO is available, since nowadays some dependencies might be missing on 32 bit already.

I’ll start with the 64bit testing as soon I have managed to prepare a Live USB stick from ISO, apt-updated and remastered, but without any additionally installed programs.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
