Thanks for helping us with the translations.

::OK. I wanted to translate to Spanish and Galician, but I see they are fully translated too. Why not the GUI in antiX 21?
There’s a good question.
For example, the WinFF texts are part in pt and part in pt-BR.I consulted at this exact moment the folders: /usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES, /usr/share/locale/gl/LC_MESSAGES, /usr/share/locale/gl_ES/LC_MESSAGES, /usr/share/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES, /usr/share/locale/pt_PT/LC_MESSAGES and /usr/share/locale/pt/LC_MESSAGES. None of them has a winff.mo file for the respective language.
But to my surprise, I found the /usr/share/winff/languages folder, in this folder are the translation files in editable format: winff.es.po, winff.gl.po, winff.pt_BR.po and winff .pt.po. I took a quick look at these files and noticed that there are several msgstr ” ” text entries that are blank or empty, so we don’t have the translations in perfect condition.
I recommend you check on GitHub the languages you have the ability to translate them, download the .po file and review them. If you need help making the merge request or “Pull Requests”, I can guide you with a Jitsi Meet video conference call or another platform that allows you to share the screen for the other to see. Our communication can also take place via HexChat on Libera.chat in the #antiX-translators room.

OK. I wanted to translate to Spanish and Galician, but I see they are fully translated too. Why not the GUI in antiX 21?

Peixe80, both IceWM and JWM and Fluxbox were not created by antiX developers, but are used in various antiX editions, so I believe it is worth translating, revising, correcting or improving the existing translation. If your language is not included in the respective window managers, you will be able to send your translation to the developers in a next update of the window managers, your language will be part of antiX.
In the case of the URL I posted recently, it was for the purpose of disclosing the correct location to send IceWM translations and correcting the information I posted at the beginning of this topic.
Have you already registered with Transifex? We need volunteer translators for several languages, including English.– – – – –

September 9, 2022 at 12:49 pm #88401Member

::is not translated in french with antiX 21.
Please, could you check out whether the translations work properly if you copy the respective language file (.mo type) to your system? Target folder should be either /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES or /usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES for French or Belgian French language. You need to use root privileges (sudo) for copying.
You’ll find all language ressources here:
Gitlab antiX community contributions
You’ll have to click on your Language in the column “Name” first, then on next screen click on the proper filename, again in the column “Name”. Then you’ll finally get an option for downloading the file. If you click the same entries in other columns you’ll only get some strange information about commits and files, so it is mandatory to follow the path precisely and click the “Name” column on gitlab to find the language specific download link of the .mo file.Since I’m still on antiX 19 here on this notebook I can’t check out right now myself whether the files are missing in antiX 21 or whether they are defective. Maybe they simply didn’t make their way to the official antiX repos by now. I had provided them for integration into antiX already 10 months ago, referring to the date of upload to gitlab. Anyway, the ones pointed to above should work properly.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

::Dear Robin,
As always your explanations are clear and it is really a pleasure to do tests for you.
I have pasted the *.mo file for fr_BE.
I put a second usb key, I click on unplugdrive, I eject the usb key and I start again so it is beautiful to see the program in French. I don’t know if I will stop testing this nice program in French…
As my installation is in fr_BE, I can’t test directly for another installation in fr but I think it should work fine for other French speakers.
I noticed that the *.mo files have been on the Gitlab site for 10 months. Why isn’t it in antiX 21 yet? It’s fully compatible.
I know that with the next update of antiX, everything will be in English again but there is hope…
Best regards,
