::systemd-timesyncd package shows in “residual configs”, had to :
dpkg –purge systemd-timesyncd
Take care ~~ possibly the config files were left in place because one or more programs expect (demand) presence of those config files, regardless whether or not systemd init is running.
some package suggestions/wishlist :
replace mlocate with plocate, for bullseye and newer… it is much faster.I agree that plocate is attractive… but it is not yet “mature” and Debian bullseye has v1.1.7 (known to be bugged, eveident in this commitlog)
https://git.sesse.net/?p=plocate “2021-04-07 Fix a typo in try_complete_pread()”replace keepassx with keepassxc in package suggestions (more up to date i think)
Someone (probably me) had presented reasons for choosing keepassx (and not xc)
and there’s currently a bug affecting the xc version in buster (FWIW, the bug is not in the xc program. It is within one of the dependent libraries)add signal-desktop option to messaging apps. probably telegram-desktop too, but that’s already in debian repos.
– add ungoogled-chromium in browsers. If MX packagers roll a signal-desktop package, and antiX users test to confirm that it works ok, it could become listed among the apps installable via the “packageinstaller” utility.
The telegram-desktop package has a HUGE (heavy) dependency list. I hope you’re only suggesting to advertise it among the “packageinstaller” entries, and not suggesting that it should be pre-installed in antiX.
– i thought clipit was abandoned(?) and even debian has clipit nowadays as a metapackage to install diodon instead. maybe prefer parcellite as an alternative?
The debian GnomeTeam https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianGnome had muscled clipit out of bullseye. Abandoned by debian, the upstream project is still ‘alive’ https://github.com/CristianHenzel/ClipIt
clipit has 70+ open bug tickets
Several months back, I forked it, cherrypicked changes from among its 75 other forks, slimmed its dependencies, and announced its availability:https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/clipski-forked-from-clipit-tray-resident-clipboard-manager/

::Probably related to the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) enabled chip within UEFI firmware setting, which might be by default enabled (not only for secure boot). So would you mind to disable GRUB’s tpm module this way:
At GRUB menu press ‘c’ to get a GRUB command line
and remove GRUB’S tpm module with this line and press <ENTER>
rmmod tpm
Press <ESC> to go back to the menu. The above worked for me in stopping the “Unknown TPM Errors”.
Also got this error message after booting into the 5.10.27-antix.1-amd64-smp kernel.

::very helpful Xecure, thanks for replying…
some issues i’ve been seeing :
1) ps:
runsvdir -P /etc/service log: /run: file does not exist runsv lvm2: fatal: unable to start ./run: file does not exist runsv acpi-support: fatal: unable to start ./run: file does not exist runsv rsync: fatal: unable to start ./run: access denied runsv ofono: fatal: unable to start ./run: access denied runsv sudo: fatal: unable to start ./run: file does not exist ./finish: 4: .: cannot open /etc/default/runit: No such file
any idea how to fix it? maybe /etc/sv/$service/run needs to be executable?Something similar was reported in alpha 2.
1.1 Remove /etc/service/acpi-support and /etc/service/sudo (they lack a run file)
1.2 For /etc/sv/rsync and /etc/sv/ofono, the run files are not executable, as you have mentioned. Make them executable.
1.3 If you see disk-writes even when the computer should be in idle, install iotop and run
sudo iotop -o
and monitor the services that are writing on disk. This will let you know what services are malfunctioning and constantly reporting errors.1.1 done
1.2 i did, but something i noticed, /etc/default/rsync has daemon disabled (RSYNC_ENABLE=false), how can we make runit read that and then start or disable service accordingly? i need rsync cmd, but not the daemon running.. it’s also one of the remaining misbehaving runit scripts.
1.3 i actually noticed this error, while trying to restore personal files from external usb after antiX installation.. very heavy disk i/o + slow restoring of files and that error seemed like a probable cause..
so after doing the above suggestions, remaining misbehaving runit scripts :
a) rsync (i actually don’t need this running, so maybe i could just delete /etc/sv/rsync (till next runit-services-net-antix upgrade at least..?) or maybe comment out exec in /etc/sv/rsync/run ? what’s the proper way to disable rsync daemon with runit?
b) dundee (not needed actually so i removed ofono)
c) lvm2
d) gpm
e) anacron– add signal-desktop option to messaging apps. probably telegram-desktop too, but that’s already in debian repos.
– add ungoogled-chromium in browsers. If you can create the command instructions, a merge can be requested to packageinstaller-pkglist to be included there, if it is accepted.[/quote]
ok, not familiar with antiX workflow, will take me some time to check the repo and the way packageinstaller works and submit a PR… by the way, i would also add delta.chat in Messaging apps suggestions…
thanks,

::skidoo, thanks for your answer and shared info… 🙂
I hope you’re only suggesting to advertise it among the “packageinstaller” entries, and not suggesting that it should be pre-installed in antiX.
ofcourse!
i’d never ask for some package to be added in a lightweight distro like antiX just because it’s of some use to me…. with the exception of replacing mlocate with plocate in installed systems (because the running time difference is indeed appealing). but maybe in a future version/release as you point out..i was also thinking of delta.chat as an “advertisement”/wishlist for messaging apps in packageinstaller. do you have an opinion on that?
signal works fine – encryption is tested/solid – not run by gafami cabal, but it’s not decentralised (hosted by gafami) and they do keep personal data (=phone number) + some other metadata.. (still a better alternative imho, than telegram, skype, whatsapp, viber, etc…).about clipit, you’re right.
was using debian (then devuan), and clipit was my preferred clipboard manager for a long time.. till diodon suddenly showed up and clipit stopped working (#%@!$@$%~@!#@).
original parcellite (i believe clipit was a fork), seemed to work fine/lightly as a replacement, been using it without issues ever since.. but i didn’t know clipit was still alive.. 🙂thanks,

::>>> do you have an opinion on that? [ delta.chat ]
I do not. Others here may, but discussion of speculative future inclusions probably merits a separate topic.
>>> about clipit
The status quo seen in the beta release (repackaged by anticapitalista) is probably the best current choice.
No one has reviewed the translation files for “clipski” yet to fill any missing phrases.June 15, 2021 at 7:30 am #61709Member

::what’s the proper way to disable rsync daemon with runit?
All runit services that can be active or stopped have a link in /etc/service/. If you remove the link, the service will no longer be available.
I have been setting up a GUI way for it, but it is still in alpha stage. What works properly is “Adding and Removing” runit services, and in most cases also disabling from startup. If interested in using a GUI way, you can test it: (required package dialogbox, in repos): https://gitlab.com/antix-contribs/serv-man-antixok, not familiar with antiX workflow, will take me some time to check the repo and the way packageinstaller works and submit a PR…
With the install commands (with apt or if the program needs t be downloaded from a website, using wget) should be enough (the rest is just package name and description. The structure is in the link provided, you can see how the .pm file is organized.

::In my experience testing b1-sysvinit and b1-runit, sysvinit seems to boot better on older computers. Will there be a b1-sysvinit 32-bit version to test on even older computers?
Thanks.

::When things are ironed out in this beta the probable next ste is the release of 64 and 32 bits ISOs.
Can anyone test if the Repo-manager “Get fastest mirror” in the Debian tab work for them? I get an error in the runit version. I get “netselect-apt could not detect fastest repo”.

I get this
netselect-apt could not detect fastest repo
error in both b1-runit and b1-sysvinit.

::repo-manager
Aha, it probably would fail in all cases (not just in the context of runit) because it could not recognize “bulleye”
.@Xecure If you build + test this revised version on bulleye to confirm the fix, I’ll send a merge request to anticapitalista.

I will test in a bit.
It is strange that it worked OK for buster, even when on_pushFastestDebian_clicked didn’t include a buster entry.
The problem with changing mirrors was reported as an issue, awaiting for ifeedback before creating a merge request, so I will include it in your fix before I build.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::strange until/unless you download the source package from repo.antixlinux.com/buster/pool/main/r/repo-manager/
and discover that it had previously been fixed, but the fixed version was never uploaded to gitlab. (In this instance, I didn’t check, but across various packages that’s been a recurring cause of regressions.) On a related note, your issue ticket from 4mos ago is still open, but IIRC has been addressed in code revisions since then.June 15, 2021 at 7:20 pm #61752Member

Unfortunately it didn’t work 100%.
It fixes the issue of repo-manager selecting antiX mirrors and making the change(It seems this was fixed in the last antix lists update, so this doesn’t change with the proposed fix), but Debian with “get fastest mirror” doesn’t work. There is something wrong with the implementation ONLY for the debian repo (it works for the antiX repo).I will experiment a bit.
