the tip about launching volumeicon _after_ pulseaudio

        /etc/skel/.desktop-session/startup
        provided by package “desktop-session-antix”

should move the line mentioning volumicon downward, so that it occurs after the line mentioning pulseaudio, and add an inline comment line to coach “pulseaudio start (if enabled) should precede the volumeicon startup line”

            >>> sources list get mangled after update on Live USB with persistence when selecting a timezone before boot

Here’s the relevant code in live init
            sudo geany /live/etc/init.d/live-init:581

The apt update operation brings “apt-antix” containing (verified) correct sources.list.d/ lists,
along with an updated copy of /sbin/localize-repo.
            Here’s a diff of the latter: https://pastebin.com/raw/EyCRU2Fr
(but the changes therein seem to be innocuous, uninteresting)

We should probably diff installed vs prior version of the live init script (I have not yet done so), scrutinizing any recent “syntactic” revisions to lines within localize_repo() ~~ e.g. “[[” changed to “[” and presence or absence of quotation marks surrounding variable names and variable assignments. localize_repo() is identical in both versions.

Bug Report – all sources list get mangled after update on Live USB with persistence when selecting a timezone before boot.

              ISO: antiX bullseye-beta1 (runit)
System: Live USB with persistence – UEFI

Selected Boot parameters (from live grub menus):
              Timezone: Europe/Berlin
              Kernel:4.9
              Persistence: persist_root
              Save: grubsave

Issue: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* files’ content get mangled (it tries to add the same antix mirror to almost all lines)

How to reproduce: Set the previous boot options described above and boot the system. Update all packages and, when asked, replace antix.list and debian.list. Save live changes and reboot. On next boot all sources will get mangled (and on each new reboot they get mangled even more).

              Hi @Xecure,
I tried to reproduce this error. But I don’t see it. This is what I get.

Looking at it again. The only thing I didn’t do exactly was set the timezone. I kept it at auto. Would that make a difference?

The forum doesn’t let me post (I am being blocked?) Lets see if simplifying the text is good enough.

During boot, the antiX live system looks at all the boot parameters and does whatever is being asked (be it load to ram, change keyboard layout, set language, etc.). The boot parameter
                tz=<timezone>
                does two things:
                1. Change the region and time to match the specific region
                2. Change the apt software to the closest mirror for that region you selected with tz.

I think that the script that sets the mirror based on the timezone is broken and edits all files inside the apt sources folder to try to replace the ‘/’ symbol with the antiX mirror selected by the script that reads the time zone parameter.

So, yes. you need to select a timezone (you can still do it and see what happens) to force the script that reads the timezone parameter to act up.`

That is the biggest issue for this bug. People who don’t live in the US and run antiX live will have a bit of trouble to figure out what is going on.
I need to manually edit the sources files to restore them. I now have a copy of each .list to restore every time I reboot until the reason can be found and the fix can be included in an update.

I didn’t see this happen because of spending more time on an installed system. Sorry for the delay.

                            Re live tz issue.

                            1. Is it only on runit?
                            2. Is it only Berlin timezone?
                            3. Is it only when booting via grub menu?
                            4. Was this bug on alpha2?

                            Thanks

                                Re live tz issue.

                                1. Is it only on runit?

No. Just tested on b1 (sysvinit) edition.

                                2. Is it only Berlin timezone?

No. I just tested selecting “Los Angeles” on legacy boot and I get the same mangled result, but with the la antix mirror.

                                3. Was this bug on alpha2?

No. It just happens after the update (see Complementary questions 0.A)

                                Complementary questions:
0.A Does it happen before the updates or after updating the system?
It only happens after upgrading the system. If you don’t upgrade, it doesn’t happen.
EDIT: It is definitely the apt-antix package. I updated all packages except this one and rebooted and the sources are still OK.

0.B Does it only happen in UEFI boot?
No, it happens in both UEFI and Legacy boot (I just tested).

Also, on Legacy Boot, F8 menu (save boot changes) selecting the legacy kernel doesn’t work (at least on my tests). Could anyone else check if this also happens to them?

I see that (on my system) the F8 menu saves the changes to Grub menu, but the syslinux/isolinux doesn’t remember them.
