A while back I suggested that yad-calendar could be used to show a calendar, when the user clicks the time on icewm toolbar clock…
This week-end I was reading through my notes and read something that I never implemented: using yad-calendar as a basic “organizer”. The user can add events to days in the calendar, and yad-calendar displays days that have events in bold. A tooltip displays the event(s) scheduled for that day.
This is done using yad-calendar and a simple text file that stores the events.
Note that you have to manually add the events, by editing the text file: one line per day, starting with the date, a space, then the description you want to be added to that day. Save the file, and the next time you click the calendar and hover you mouse above that date a tooltip will be displayed, showing that event.
It’s veryyyy basic, displays no warnings of any kind about the event (well, just like a paper organizer, but on your screen).
By default the text file that is used is called “yad-calendar.txt” and is stored in your home folder. You can edit it any time, not just using yad-calendar.You can get the tiny script (with only 2 lines, the first being used to create the text file and insert an example) here:
https://pastebin.com/kmGAA0tTIf you just want to test the script you can copy and paste the lines directly from the webpage to the terminal and see how it looks and works.
If you want to always use this version of yad-calendar, you’ll have to replace your default yad-calendar with this version.Note: the right date format may change according to system settings. In my system, in antiX the correct date format is dd/mm/yyyy (in MX linux it’s dd-mm/yyyy). You can see what is yad’s default time format by opening the terminal and entering “yad –calendar”. Click the “ok” button and the yad window closes and the current date will be displayed in the terminal, in the exact format you need to use for your entries…

::Interesting script. I am still too dependent on pen and paper, and physical calendars (though i don’t use them that much).
Very interesting and lightweight solution.antiX Live system enthusiast.
