As you pointed out to me in my previous post, i mistakenly installed the 32-bit version of antiX 19.3 on a 64-bit pc.
I tried to install the latest version of antiX 19.4 full 64 bit but I get the following error: “failed to load ldlinux.c32 boot failed …”
So I momentarily reinstalled the 32-bit antix 19.4 version which gave me no installation problems.
Can it be solved?
Thank you in advance.

That sounds like a live-usb/cd boot error message (that is, not a traditional install); am I correct?

If when you wrote that, you meant the live-usb would not boot, then I think it was a bad download. I think re-downloading is the best bet. Or perhaps the program to make the usb was to blame (if you didn’t use antiX Live-USB-Maker)?
Your computer is 64-bit (core2duo), so 64-bit should work fine.- This reply was modified 1 year, 9 months ago by christophe. Reason: more concise

::From your 2nd post, it looks like you were able to boot the 32 bit USB you made.
Did you download and burn the 64 bit one the same way to the same USB? If so, it should boot too.
Try powering it down, unplug the USB, power back up, and put the USB back in. See if it flashes a couple times. If it does the same thing, try plugging it into a different USB slot, and try again. If you have another 64 bit PC, you could try booting it in that to test the USB.

I check the checksum on all my iso downloads since my ISP is unreliable most of the time. Their server drops out from time to time.

::For installation I used Ventoy.
With Ventoy I installed 32-bit antiX on several PCs, and I also installed the latest version of MX Linux 64-bit on this Acer successfully, but it was too slow and I decided to return to antiX..
I think we can say that Ventoy works.
I had already made another download of the 64-bit antiX version from another mirror, suspecting a possible corruption of file.
But the result was always that error “failed to load ldlinux.c32 boot failed…”
I can basically install anything except the version I really need 🙁July 19, 2021 at 4:26 pm #63282ModeratorBobC
::Why don’t you run a check on the 64 bit file you downloaded, then? There should be matching SHA256 and MD5 files available.
If the downloaded file checks out good, then the method of burning it and USB should be questioned…

::Hi matematico65,
not familiar with Ventoy or it’s settings,
can you make sure the 64-bit was installed to MBR not PBR in the antiX
installer and that 64-bit on Ventoy isn’t using any GPT options
on the hard drive. Grub should be on the MBR on your hard drive as is not a
uefi machine for your 64-bit acer.just to clarify is this a hdd install or a usb drive?

::Linuxdaddy, I think he can’t boot it from his Ventoy flashdrive.
Ventoy works for some ISO’s, and not for others. I suggest burning it to a separate flashdrive using antiX’s or MX’s Live-USB-Maker program if possible after checking that the file being burned was good.

::Thank you for your many answers and suggestions.
I will try to implement all the suggestions you have given me.
@LinuxDaddy I could not decide where to install GRUB because the installation of 64-bit antiX does not start and gives me error: “failed to load ldlinux.c32 boot failed…”
The installation is from live usb (Ventoy) on internal hdd.
@BobC I will also try this verification, but I downloaded the 64-bit version from different mirrors and I uploaded them all to Ventoy and then I tried them all individually but none worked, all gave the same error, it seems difficult to think that they are all corrupt.
Thank you again and I will let you have news soon.

::ok … never seen that error before. can check bios and make sure it doesn’t have
the windows secure boot turned on for it.July 19, 2021 at 6:12 pm #63290MemberPPC
::@matematico65- like suggested before- please try using other way to burn the 64 bits iso to your thumbdrive, other than Ventoy- it sometimes refuses to boot some distros- it may work with antiX 32bits but refuse to boot antiX 64bits…

::could try booting into the 32 bit install and making the 64-bit to
a second usb using the antiX-live usb maker tool.July 19, 2021 at 7:12 pm #63298ModeratorBobC
::I have gotten that error when booting a number of distros with Ventoy. I already suggested above what to do. Linuxdaddy is correct that if you can boot the 32 bit version from Ventoy, you could then use it to burn another flashdrive with the 64 bit version.
PS: I never was able to predict precisely which ISO’s would work booting from Ventoy or MultiBootUSB, it was easier to just assume there was a problem and try a different method on any that didn’t work. I would suspect maybe the UEFI stuff might be involved. If you run into problems, the best bet is always to try doing it the way the Dev’s that created it would have tried.
