I just installed AntiX on my old aspire one netbook with 1.6Ghz Atom processor, and 1 gigabyte ram. I bought the netbook for 20 euro, so it’s a big win to be able to get some useful life out of such old equipment. So glad that there are distro’s still supporting 32 bit computers.

The Capitalistic machine is a strange thing. It is the biggest motor for technical advancement, yet at the same time the consumption monster is consuming our planet. I always think that labour should be cheaper and materials should be a lot more costly to keep a capitalistic environment intact, while having a far bigger emhpashis on repairing and re-using products in order to counteract this.

This is a cafe, so it means you can talk about literally everything, I am a very friendly person and people seem to misunderstand that. In my work environment, they start to make fun of me. It always start funny but after a while it gets very irritating. It is like a way to achieve social dominance over other people. It really makes me feel uneasy. How should one react? They make fun of me because I drink fristi for example. Always about very stupid topics, but they get under my skin after a while because they just keep bringing up the same over and over again. It brings me down. How would you react in such an environment? Thanks for the tips.

Perhaps changing the subject. Ignore the irritating remark, and come back with something like, “Hey Juanita, I’ve been meaning to tell you that I really like the way you dress. You’ve got style.” Perhaps a compliment of some kind, or a work question would work well. Something to change the subject AND display how friendly you are.

        🙂

Ok, suffocating them with friendlyness sounds good; they get an egoboost that is not destructive to the environment. Thanks

I am not an English expert but should it not be “control center” instead of ” control centre ” Last one sound French.

No, centre is proper English. But it is British English, not American English.

»Brian said, Sorry Robin, I accidentally edited your post instead of a reply — you are correct. As an American I am more familiar with “Control Center” than “Control Centre” and you’re correct, the first one is American English and the second one is British English.

Who cares? Anticapitalista is a Brit living and working in Thessalonica, so the spelling matches his dialect. There are countless more important things to address. I am very happy with the overall progress. Our currently supported releases are rock solid and our current test builds are more stable than some commercial software even midway through the development cycle.«

No problem, Brian. Btw, I also can only write in British English, but I get constantly confused by the US-English texts nowadays and automatic US-English spell-checkers present everywhere. It ends up with me having to look up many words again and again in a dictionary since I’m not sure anymore whether it is me not knowing it properly or the text is wrong or the text was simply written in US-English.
            Many greetings
            Robin

              Hallo Konstantina,
Unfortunately no matter where you live work or travel there
are always irritating persons around. Please do not be irritated by me.
I am often very direct. where I grew up no other way.

centre sounds French, you are right, much of the English English is derived from
French. Parts of southern England were ruled by france for a longer historic period.

Please do note, English from England not Scotland Ireland Eire or Wales and only partly
applicable to the North of the country.
About one third of English vocabulary is pretty much same as French.
French have much, in some areas claimed as much as two thirds derived or same as English!

had to search fristi, seems its a Dutch joghourt drink.
              Looking at the ingredients.

              Looking from my perspective:

I wonder if, in the case of fristi they (those you work with) are embarrassed
and trying to tell you its not exactly a healthy drink but do not know how to
effectivly communicate that or get past your blockade..

              See Ingredients.
Skimmed fermented milk, liquid milk constituents (whey permeate), water,
concentrated juice juice 5% (2.5% grape, 1.7% apple, 0.8% elderberry,
              0.01 strawberry, 0.01% raspberry, 0, 01% broom, 0.01% cherry), sugar,
fructose syrup, stabilizers: pectin, guar gum, dipotassium phosphate and
trisodium citrate, fatty acid: lactic acid, aroma, dye: carmine.

Fristi is very expensive for the listed contents and packaging and transport are
              destructive to the environment.

You could say thanks for making a point and bring, home made, real strawberry
blueberry or cranberry, mango or whatever is available where you live youghourt
              drink to work.
If remarks come then, pass some around to try and ask for further suggestions.
We all have differnt tastes but a creamy frothy strawberry mix is a gold standard,
              loved by pretty much everybody.

Frozen fruit does the job well fresh is often only available for a short period and
              does not always keep well.

Sorry if I sound like a teacher, in a way its true. Part of TCM,
we are what we eat drink breathe and do.

Regarding the pestering bit: My wife is the nicest, friendliest person I ever met. That is obviously good for me, but it has its drawbacks. And almost since I the day I met her, I noticed that other people pick up on the quality super fast. So fast, in fact, that beggars and drunks pick up on it as we’re walking down the street. She meets everyone with a smile, it may be as simple as that. I don’t know for sure, but it may be that other people see her as an easy target for exploitation. She of course gets tired of people trying to exploit her. She’s a very intelligent woman, fortunately. The strange thing is that she has kept her friendly quality through all our years together. I don’t know, it may be genetic. I think I may have to ask her how she’s able to deal with this.

From my point of view, it’s apparent that any way of interacting socially with the world has its pros and cons. In the case of my wife, I’ve noticed that for every person that tries to exploit her, there’s another one who is equally nice to her. For example, if the car needs a mechanic, it’s a very bad idea for me to go. When she goes, the bill is always half of what it would be if I went, and it’s ready twice as fast. She also has friends that will help her out in any circumstance. (I on the other hand, barely have any.)

I guess it comes down to weighing your options. If you can’t help being nice, weigh the pros and cons. The only thing you can do is to manage the situations you put yourself in. That may seems a cynical thing to do. But suffering from pestering all the time is not very healthy. Good luck!

Yes. BUT, more importantly, it will endear you to them. If they remember (or realize) how friendly and kind you are, they will take care how they treat you. They will care about your feelings.

Sometimes I also behave on the side of friendliness. I’ve often been naive and unaware. I have a wonderful wife who can also be friendly, but is much more alert and aware of surroundings. She’s been a great help to me, and I am the same to her. We bring out the best in each other and therefore we’re able to “take calculated risks”, knowing that we watch out and care for one another.

As far as those who take advantage of others, it’s helpful to take note of such people. For all the kindness that many people pour out for the benefit of others, this opposite extreme eventually gets what they deserve – either being ignored or abandoned by others. If they end up lost and lonely, it really has been their own choices all along.

I do not think you will do it, knowing your appreciation of noble ideas… This would mean to abandon Grup Yorum’s ideas and their sacrifice… Helin Bölek and Ibrahim Gökçek lost their lives for these ideas… They would turn in their graves if such thing happened…
However I cautiously do not mean to influence your judgement…

I’m all for antiX continuing to stand apart from companies, government and politics that bully people and take advantage of the downtrodden.

We’ve seen growth in the number of people recognizing not only the usefulness of antiX, I think antiX has more than once stirred up the minds of those willing to listen.

I live in a country with a government system that has taken advantage of many people. My country itself has many very good people and like other places, there’s both good and bad.

As long as possible I hope to see this place, this group and this software as a place where we can help one another regardless of where we live and what we follow or believe. The most interesting part of my life from middle age to now has been meeting people from all over the world.

As one song has noted, “We all bleed the same” so let’s care about and share with one another. One of my dear friends in the retirement community where I live has somewhat different political and faith expressions than I do, but we’ve taken the time to establish a friendship that doesn’t require that we agree about everything, simply that we care about our friendship and about the well being of the people around us.

When I worked I enjoyed the Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indian, African American, Russian, Ukrainian, Irish, English, Polish, French, Italian, Pakistan and more. Sometimes the least tolerant and most disagreeable people were people who had a similar background to me – not always, but I rarely had major issues with people because of their nationality.

                              Hello Konstantina.

Welcome to Antix Linux and the Forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything. If your native language is not English, please translate my original Portuguese language text in Brazil directly into your language with the help of internet translators that you will get a much better result.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                              How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I started using Antix, I read the tutorials that the PPC created, these readings spared me a lot of my time and I think it saves the time of any new Antix user. Your time will not be lost with these readings, it will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time with internet searches or even create new topics, on the contrary, you will earn a lot of time from these readings. I recommend you try the work areas that have “ZZZ” in your name. I usually use the “ZZZ-Icewm” or “ZZZ-JWM” or “ZZZ-Fluxbox” (each of these work areas have their own characteristics and consume more or less resources). ZZZFM will be the default file manager in your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers from other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access the other Antix work areas, click the Antix menu (or right -click), desktop, switch between desktops and click on the work area name, instantly to desktop will be loaded.

In the Portuguese language area of this forum, there are several tutorials that may be useful for you . Use an automatic translator from the internet so you can understand the text.

Whenever you need to request technical help or support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not save the words, be thorough when writing, enter the characteristics of your computer, such as the brand and the model. If possible, post the result of the command $ Inxi -zv7 of the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic you create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify Me of Follow-Up Replies via email”, marking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are answers from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.

How to: correctly use antiX forum.

I’m thinking of calling antiX-23 ‘Proudly Woke’

You do as you wish, but I’d like to take the opportunity to say that I think the current and more subversive approach works better. My curiosity has led me to search for Grup Yorum, Manolis Glezos, Hannie Schaft and more. Thank you for bringing these names to my attention. Words like “woke” and “anti-fascist” are subject to subversion, and I therefore find it hard to use them precisely. It is harder to subvert the names of true resistance heroes. My suggestion would be to name antiX-23 “Alexei Navalny”.
