I booted off the live usb on my old sony vaio laptop(32 bit,1gb ram,200gb SSD) and when i ran the linux installer when it reaches the auto install using entire disk it says 198 Uncorrectable_Sector_Ct0/0(The disks with the partitions you selected fot installation pass the SMART monitor test(smartctl) but the tests indicate it will have a higher than average failure rate in the near future. If unsure, please exit the installer and run GSmartControl for more information,Do you want to continue?) I click yes it starts the install but then says failed to format required partitions.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you need a new hard disk.
Did you try running anything test the condition of the disk?

If you are entirely sure the SSD is new or OK, then maybe the connector is dirty, has some ware or not touching properly. It could also be a SATA mis-configuration in the BIOS (You may need to change it to AHCI mode).

If you are sure all this is OK, then you can try to manually partition. Boot with the F4 option “noautomount”. Once you boot in, launch the Installer and select “Run partition tool”, which will load a program named Gparted.
          0. Make sure that you can see in the top-right corner the correct drive. It should say something similar to “/dev/sda (200.00 GiB)”. If that is not the one, click there and select it (If you cannot see it, inform us).
          1. In the top menu,. select Device > Create partition Table, and select the table type “msdos”. It will wipe out the disk.
          2. Now with Partition > New, add these partitions:
2a – New size: 2048 MiB, File system: linux-swap, Label: swap
2b – New size: (the rest of the disk), File system: ext4, Label: antiX

          The result should look like:
          simple-partition
Hit the Apply button (tick icon) or Edit > Apply All operations and wait for the process to end. Close the window.

Back to the installer, the “Custom install” option will be enabled (and should be selected). Proceed to the next step.
Select root: your newly created ext4 – antiX partition
home and boot should autoselect as root (that is good).
Select swap: your newly created 2.0GB swap
          It should look like this:
          simple-custom-install

Proceed with the installation and INSTALL Grub. If it fails again, you must start questioning your SSD.

Hi, before trusting the SSD with time and any data please do an extended self test
above reads as if you have smartctl already installed.

sudo smartctl -t long /dev/sdX replacing the X with your drive designation.

In general SSD will just completely fail, there are exceptions though. If you are
unsure regarding your hardware and test result you could if possible confirm with
            another computer.

If you are needing help with results please post them here in the thread.
