Dear, I am happy with Antix and I would be happy to install it on my old Macbook pro
please find below the inxi:madibi@MacBookPro ~ $ inxi
CPU~Dual core Intel Core2 T7400 (-MCP-) speed/max~997/2167 MHz Kernel~5.0.0-36-generic i686 Up~5 min Mem~273.2/1928.0MB HDD~120.0GB(8.9% used) Procs~175 Client~Shell inxi~2.3.56I tried both to start with a CD or to boot with an USB key,
I arrive in the 1st screen where to make the choices F1, etc
then I push Enter and after 30-40″ the install stops with no messages and with no apparent reason. The same happens to me with Debian Q4OS.
At the moment only Ubuntu’s derivates are working properly – I choose Peppermint 10 – but unfortunately the system is a bit too slow. Can anyone help me to proceed with the installation of Antix?
Many thx in advance

::1. I put the CD (or USB key) in the slot and I switch on pushing the ALT key
2. I choose the media with Antix
3. after I see the screen with the choices from F1 to F8 , I choose the language and the hour (F2 & F3), then Enter4.
The cd stops at:…. Waiting for /dev to be fully populated …
and don’t proceed anymore
Unfortunately I don’t have more info 🙁

::I will go through the steps I used to install antix 17. I used a flash drive but a cd/dvd should work the same. I did a full install deleted the apple os all together as I was no longer able to get security updates. As you did I held down the option/alt key and turned on the computer (I started with Mac Mini) tried to do a full install and got and error msg basically stating it couldn’t install the system (I don’t know of anyway to turn off the secure boot on apply computers) so I rebooted again and redid the whole process again and this time it finished. Also when you go to install the grub loader it need to be put in esp not mbr not sure why but when I used mbr the first time it would not take, tried esp and it worked. Reboot the computer and you should be good to go. Antix is a great os and has worked on everything I have put it on, I have the 32bit on the mini and 64bit on the other to machines. After that just update the kernels and tweak as needed and you will have a great setup.

::no way
all my tries are frustrated.
1. USB key Antix 19
1.1 normal install (+ a lot of combinations of F2+F3+F4): as I wrote you before
1.2 failsafe mode: simply it stops working when the screen is dark2. USB key Antix 17
2.1 normal install: as I wrote you before
2.2 failsafe mode: the process arrive at a moment with the cli I am asked to provide userid and pw. After I do the login I try the “startx” command and I have no success (I receive a lot of messages of error)I think I’ll resign
I ask me why with the Ubuntu derivates – that I dont like so much because they are so “heavy” I don’ have any prob.November 27, 2019 at 12:05 pm #29931Moderator

::Hi madibi, as one can read on your other threads, you also have another box where you can boot the live usb.
Then it might be worthwhile to try and install another kernel on the live-stick.Might the Macbook boots with one of the new 5.2 or 5.4-kernels.
Changing your kernel on a antiX live-USBNovember 27, 2019 at 1:17 pm #29932MemberNoman01
::When I installed the os I went into the live desktop session and then then did an full install nothing advanced just a straight install whole disk no F1 anything like that it should work. Maybe someone with more advance knowledge can help, all I know I didn’t try any fancy install just kept it basic and it worked. Anyway good luck.

::I tried to follow the suggestion of Caprea, with no luck.
Then I tried to install a live of Q4OS (100% Debian based) and still no luck, except the try in failsafe mode, where the system started.
Next week I’ll give another look in depth 🙂
thx againDecember 1, 2019 at 2:25 pm #30054Moderator

::If you are able to get the failsafe Debian Linux version to install, you can get the same kernel used in Debian and that ought to work.
