I had put the task to antiX Package Installer to install a lot of software and had gone away from my laptop.
Hours later when I came back, a second smaller window packageinstaller was on the screen, with text ‘Post-processing…’ and the progress bar swiftly running from left to right side again and again. CPU & HDD were idle.

Did you update the system before using the antiX package installer? It may be possible that you are using an older version or that the package list is empty.

Before that, on that same day I updated&upgraded via Synaptic and installed several applications.
I remember there were updates for apt-related utilities.
So read ‘fresh install’ as ‘just yesterday’ but not as ‘brand new’.

Which apps? Some need user input.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

on top of the requests for input on what choices were selected, I would look around to see if a terminal window is running either on another desktop or under package-installer. something may be waiting for input

as far as I remember, no terminal window was present and no input was asked

I can report a similar problem on antiX 19, 64 bits, fully up to date: I start Package Manager to install Open Drive, it performs the usual apt update and then I just get the “waiting clock” icon, no terminal pops up. I can see the system is downloading data, but even after waiting over 5 minutes, nothing changes and I have to kill Package Manager (using Menu > kill window )…
