::@anticapitalista, i did not claim windows has live persistence or remaster.
What I worry about is that when the default repo is down or unreliable as has been the case with RTWH Aachen for weeks
new users will have a system where updates fail, maybe they change the repo and after next reboot update fails yet again.
This situation may not just happen here. The previously flourishing group is shrinking, during home schooling any issues drive kids and parents nuts.
Users are going back to windoze because parents are somehow used to the madness that brings, we are also now unable to
have group evenings or any of the other community activitys which were holding things together.Live in a messed up world is tough.

::@anticapitalista, i did not claim windows has live persistence or remaster.
My point is that this issue only occurs when running live with persistence/remastering.
If user follows the windoze way and installs antiX to hard drive, any user changes to the repos will not get altered at all.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::Is anyone/any team prepared to go through all the repos listed in repo-manager and let me know which are reliable and which are not?
What is the correct procedure? Compare Release files from each for buster release? Or should we compare some other way?
If you give me a correct methodology, I will test for each of the repos available in repo-manager. What I was thinking is:
1) Disable all repos except antiX repo.
2) For default antiX repo (repo.antixlinux.com), save the list of available packages and versions (with apt list).
3) Use repo-manager to switch to a different antiX mirror.
4) apt update and compare the available packages (apt list) with the default repo.
5) Repeat 3-4 for all repos. Please recommend a better way if this method is flawed.

::RTWH Aachen has been poor for a longer period, several weeks also reported by Robert.
As it is default that is problematic.Problem is to track issues like this some kind of automation would be needed to see
when a repo goes out of synch or down and for how long.I will happily team up with xecure and check the present situation. If we can automate
maybe we could work country by country rather than a global approach.April 17, 2021 at 3:11 pm #57793Forum Admin

::I think I have checked all the mirrors. I compiled a Summary of the results for each. the brackets [] contains the number of differences in packages between each mirror and the default repo.antixlinux.com mirror.
[0] means zero differences. The repo mirror is up to date.
[6] coincides with the ones that are are very close to being updated in the mirmon site (as of this moment), so this is normal.
[39] coincides with most of the mirmon reported as a bit of out of date (over 1 or 2 days out of date).
[>39] is (in my opinion) unacceptable. These have some problem with one of the releases, but need to be checked individually to figure out what is going on.
[ERROR] for a mirror means that there was an error while fetching the package information. Some are because of connection problem (didn’t connect), others are related to gpg/pgp error, others mention different Release size than expected, etc. Each case needs to be studies separately.[0] ::@Xecure would you please share exactly how you compiled the list, to get a decent picture
Same process I explained above.
5) Repeat 3-4 for all repos.I created a small script that updated the packagelist (sudo apt update), then saved a list of available packages (apt list > check.list). It then compared the default.list (created using the repo.antixlinux.com) with the check.list (diff default.list check.list > differences.list). I then counted the ammount of differences (< and > entries). If it is [0], then the mirror is up to date. If it only contained a lost of installed (and not available) packages, then there was an error connecting to the server [ERROR]. Anything else means there are missing packages in the repo. I saved the result and repo into a file (results.list), and the contents are what was posted in my last reply.
I manually selected the next mirror using the repo-manager and ran the script again.Once I had the results.list I then compared manually most of the [ERROR] and [>39] entries in the list with the ones seen in mirmon-packages linked by anticapitalista, and understood the results.
It would be best now to change to the [ERROR] mirrors using repo-manager and run in terminal sudo apt update to see what error is spit out. The more people can check, the more me can be sure that those are problematic mirrors.

::I can confirm the [ERROR] http://mx.debian.nz/antix/buster/ result. This mirror has been giving me errors for at least 6 months. It seems fine for MX updates (http://mx.debian.nz//mx/repo/) but always gives the following error for antiX updates:

Err:5 http://mx.debian.nz/antix/buster buster Release

.
E: The repository ‘http://mx.debian.nz/antix/buster buster Release’ does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can’t be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. This is the mirror that my live usb keeps resetting to at each bootup, and is the reason why I asked about this issue in the first place – I was getting tired of having to change it to a functioning mirror every time I updated 🙂

::Wow, great work @Xecure – that’s impressive!
I would have to agree with @Moddit that issues with repos and updates can undermine a new user’s confidence in the distro. I had problems when I first started with antiX (& linux generally) 7 months ago which were caused by updates not propagating to the mirror I was using in a timely fashion. I thought I had updated my system but didn’t realize the mirror I was using didn’t have the latest version of a package (https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/19-3-iso-snapshot-problem/).
I learned a lot from getting it straightened out, but I needed to start a forum topic and probably wasted people’s time helping me solve the issue. Even if new users don’t give up on antiX due to episodes like this, it could give a negative impression of the distro and it definitely wastes people’s time and energy holding their hand while they get things sorted out.

It does give errors occasionally but it has been mostly error-free over the last 6 months. It has been a little problematic recently, as evidenced by this result today, so I don’t know if something has changed – apt update is still unable to connect to it as I write this. I was just assuming it will return to its previous good behaviour with time.
