Hi all Antix gurus,
I’ve reccently bought a beautiful System 76 Lemur Pro. This laptop has no BIOS but works with CoreBoot.
I would like to setup an install with fresh software (SID) with Runit or OpenRC and dwm or i3 as WM.
I would like to know if trying the 19.2 runit sid ISO is a complete non sense or if it may works…
I have 2 SSDs so I may install on the 2nd hard drive….. But README say that is not compatible with UEFI and this sentence is confusing
for my mind. Does it imply that it does not support UEFI (CoreBoot BIOS replacement) or that I cannot use a GPT/UEFI layout (/boot/efi) ?Thanks for any pointers or answers.

::Hello!
The sid versions do not include X (xorg) and use a cli installer which do not recognize UEFI (yet).
There are workarounds though, I think someone posted a ‘fix’ somewhere in this forum.You could run live, install xorg, a window manager eg jwm and antix-installer, startx and you *should* now be able to install to UEFI.
(I have only tried this on a virtual machine though)Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::Hello, and welcome.
Also, I am not sure if you will need the 4.19 kernel version or install an even newer 5.6 kernel:

::Hi Xecure,
yes I think you are right a 5.6 kernel is almost required with this machine….
ThanksJune 23, 2020 at 1:20 am #37941Memberdeadbrain
::Hi all,
FYI , I have tried to install using the procedure as described by Anticapitalista, but I did not succeed in…
The problem is , booting with standard GRUB options hangs with a message : Waiting for /dev to be fully populated….
It means that udev can’t manage one of my periphals (i915 graphics card)
I have tried to bypass this message and I can boot , install the packages, but can’t start X server because i915 graphics card requires mode setting and I passed an option not to use this feature.. Am I trapped ?Thanks for your help

::Hopefully anticapitalista can give a better answer.
Meanwhile, could it be possible to download the core version with 4.19 kernel and then change the repo to sid? The other option is installing 5.6 kernel and remastering on a different machine, and then boot into your new machine with the new kernel, hopefully fixing the “Waiting for /dev” problem.
Better wait for anticapitalista to give the correct answer.

::You could try booting the first option, but remove the splash=v ‘cheat’ and for F7 (if not using UEFI) choose default

::Better ignore my last comment.
antiX 19.2 runnit sid x64 core edition comes with kernel 5.5, so no need for using any other version.If you can use the LUM on another distro to burn the sid ISO to a USB (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8y_mL2Sctc), boot in your laptop, select persistent option, download and install kernel 5.6, save state, remaster, use live USB kernel selector/updater (all can be done from antiX-cli-cc, Live tools), and reboot, you should be able to then install xorg, wm, antix minstaller, then startX and it should work.
I cannot guess anything else, except if I am able to build an ISO from doing it here on my PC.
Can I build an ISO (based on the live system) from cli without a gui?antiX Live system enthusiast.

::I think the firmware for that i915 graphics card is not even in Debian sid yet.
https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-misc-nonfree
Net doesn’t come with any firmware installed.
If you can get it installed, or run live with persistence, you may need to install the linux-firmware package that I backported from Ubuntu (via MX).
https://repo.antixlinux.com/sid/pool/dev/l/linux-firmware/
It is huge and to install you need to add the word dev to the antiX sources list in antix.list

::Thanks for your help Xecure…..
Don’t waste your time, in the meantime I succeeded in installing another lightweight distro systemd free: Star 3.0 based on Devuan…..
It works nicely…. But I have some older software…..But recent kernel (5.5 from backports) so all my hardware is detected (I just had to get firmware for the wifi from github)Thanks again

::Hmm – I though you wanted a net/sid install.
If you have the inclination, could you see if any of these runit isos boot to X? Thanks.

::Thanks for being so supportive,unfortunately none of these isos is able to boot and to run Xorg server….
I have already tried :
antix 10.2 + runit + sid
antix 19.2.1
antix 19.2 + runit busterNone of them work for me…..
Thanks againJune 24, 2020 at 3:13 am #37977Memberdeadbrain
::Hi all,
@anticapitalista, do you suggest me to try to install the antix 19.2 buster then to upgrade to sid ?
I may try again with the full iso ….
I’ll keep you in touch…. -
